  1. Review titled Very Long Waiting Times and Unsympathetic Consultant

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Daniel Thomas Reed - Posted on 26 February 2024

Initially referred to ENT July 2023, took till January 2024 to get an appointment. When I eventually got to see a consultation he spent very little time carrying out a thorough physical examination and readings previous history notes. He seemed very cold and unsympathetic to my diagnosis and offered little to no explanation to why I've suddenly gone deaf. Only the nurse who was present gave me any meaningful reassurance and actually seemed like she genuinely cared. Now 6 weeks has passed and i still haven't been fitted with hearing aids or had any inclination when i might get a appointment.

Today I attended the X-ray department for a barium scan. Both members of staff I was looked after by were absolutely fantastic, introducing themselves and explaining everything very well. Absolute credit for the hospital and much appreciated by myself making the experience much easier to deal with

  3. Review titled Appalling

Rated 1 star out of 5

15 hours wait for ambulance for my father, 12 hours in a&e following 3 falls in a short period of time and experiencing back pain. Ct scan showed some fractures in lumbar spine. Dad was discharged to come back following day for mri. It was clear Dad couldnt walk, he was sent home where he had no electricity and no help. He clearly looked unwell. Following mri the next day he was sent back to a&e and admitted to ward the day after. No one contacted me as nok and i had to ring the hospital to find out where my dad was. I asked why he was discharged one day to be admitted the following day and i was told he was "clinically well". When i asked how he was looking the day he was waiting for ward bed (less than 24 hours later) i was told dad looked "very unwell". He is currently bed bound and told not to go to the toilet on his own as not supposed to be walking as he has multiple lumbar spine fractures. I would like an explanation as to why dad was discharged in the first place to go home with known spinal fractures as a vulnerable older adult with no external support (family live 2 hours away) to be readmitted as no. Weight bearing. He has been treated disgustingly. It was obvious to the staff who put him in the taxi home he couldn't walk and was in pain. Taxi driver wasnt allowed to help him in his home and not his job. Considering dad gets hospital transport to appts for cancer follow up appts it is obvious he has mobility problems at the best of times. As a former nhs employee at another hospital, i am beyond disgusted.

  4. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had some heart issues and bearing in mind the current state of the NHS feared the worst regarding consultations, tests and feedback. Can only say from start to finish, the whole process was reassuring, communicated well and the speed of everything amazing. I have nothing but praise for the Cardiology dept at Grimsby hospital, it’s what the NHS was founded for, and why we have the best health service in the world.

  5. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Susan - Posted on 29 October 2023

I had a minor operation and was a patient in the day surgery unit and was really impressed with the care and attention I received from all the staff that looked after me. From entering the ward to going into theatre my care was brilliant, every detail was checked numerous times and I was monitored throughout my stay. Every staff member was friendly and polite and I was fully informed by the doctors, anaesthetist and nursing staff relating to my procedure.

  6. Review titled RIG feeding tube operation

    by Iain273 - Posted on 22 September 2023

I went in to DIU to have a RIG feeding tube fitted. DIU, Ward C5 and C6 were excellent. I had a lot of questions and I was worried about going through the procedure as I have MND. There are many staff I would like to name, however I would just like to say thank you for everything and for getting home safely to all staff I came into contact with.

At a very traumatic time, the whole staff made us feel relaxed, keeping us well informed of everything that was happening. The speciality trainee doctor emergency medicine, who was on duty 26.08.2023 at 16.00 hrs , is one of the best I have ever encountered, Preparing my grandson for transfer and keeping him calm and informed was fantastic, i cannot give enough praise tobthe team. well done, trauma team, and thank you for your attention and all you have done for my grandson.

  8. Review titled Very rude phone manner

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 August 2023

Having rang the rheumatology department to ask about a referral, a rude, obnoxious women answered the phone with not even a “hello” or any fit of greeting. She practically shouted “rheumatology” down the phone. After I had explained why I had rang, she just spoke over me and kept on questioning me with phrases such as “what do you mean by a referral?” (I should imagine all trained people in the department know what this word means!). Considering this woman works in a place of care, I found her manner to be extremely condescending and just so rude. Part of the 5 rights of service users is to offer equal and fair treatment and protect people from abuse and harm. I do not feel this particular woman was aware of how she should speak to patients on the phone, let alone offer an ounce of compassion or care. I myself work in a high pressured environment however I would be sacked if I spoke to someone in the manner this woman has just spoken to me. Maybe she should be given some extra training on how to answer the phone and then she could have extra training on manners and how/when to use them. Absolutely disgusted with this woman.

  9. Review titled Not having a procedure

    by A cdw57 - Posted on 13 July 2023

This is actually about my mother. She was called in for an upper endoscopy, first pre-med was not done early enough, then dad had to chase up details about meds (she is on warfarin), then mum turned up for one o'clock appointment having had nothing to eat since 7.30 as directed. Eventually having had canula fitted, still no procedure, then at 4.30 the doctor said she didn't need the procedure. So as a diabetic she has not eaten for 9 hours. I think this is disgraceful for anyone, especially a diabetic pensioner.
