  1. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sara - Posted on 16 March 2023

Had a medication review consultation today. The Doctor who called me was really great; polite, courteous, kind, compassionate and empathetic. She needed to ask some difficult questions but asked these gently and checked my permission first. I understand she is a trainee GP and she should be commended for her excellent manner and approach. Well done! I have always been happy with the care I have received from South St over the years. I think they do an amazing job despite the challenges the NHS overall face at present, and I wanted to commend you all for such great responsiveness and service to your patients. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Overwhelmed - awful systems and practices

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 March 2023

My impression is that on the medical side, the staff are competent and dedicated. On the administration side though the practice is clearly completely overwhelmed. In the last month: A) an e-request for my test results went unanswered, when I called I was told that they were “fine”. This is inadequate, I expect the actual results and how these fit into my health picture and an intelligent conversation with a qualified practitioner. B) when advised by e-consult to book an urgent appointment, the surgery were not able to do this. When a doctor called, I was on another call, they left a message for me to call them. I did, twice, left messages with reception, and they have then not called back again for two days. This morning (another call) I was put onto the daily triage. No call back. Just phoned the surgery again at 5pm to be told that it was my fault for being on another call when they called back. I have now been instructed to call back on Monday morning (a wholly new meaning of “urgent”) at eight a.m. for an appointment on Monday. However, they cannot guarantee that this will happen as I may be in the wait too long (it can take up to an hour) in which case the appointments will have gone. Clearly this practice is overwhelmed, at times the staff unprofessional, and the systems that they have in place are designed to limit access to a limited number of medics and appointments. Further, as the experience on test results shows, they give the impression to the patient that they are just managing and that a patient who may have interest, or more than a modicum of intelligence the clear impression that haven’t time to provide full and complete answers to questions. So, if you are seeking a practice where contact to your medical practitioner is reasonably easy, and that there is sufficient time to treat you civilly and explain things fully at a professional level, then give this a miss. However, if you are looking for somewhere where you will be treated rudely, and given perfunctory (or no) answers, this is the house for you.

  3. Review titled Faultless

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Having read bad reviews I was concerned this was my local surgery but they are faultless. EConsults responded to quickly, referrals were necessary and including you in decisions around options. Moreover the reception staff are so polite and caring - I couldn’t be happier with the choice of surgery.

  4. Review titled Please just shut down

Rated 1 star out of 5

0 is too high a rating. I have been trying to contact I. Behalf of an unwell patient re registered at this surgery. Today I have been on hold for almost 3 hours now, being first in line for the last 40 mins. I have been trying to get hold of someone (anyone) for over a week now. It doesn’t matter what time you call, it’s always the same. At least if you shut down your patients will be forced to find another practice- rather than this false hope that you will improve.

  5. Review titled Practice will not make appointments by phone

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 December 2022

The practice will not allow patients to call to request a face to face GP apt. When you do you are told by reception staff that they cannot make GP apts. You must go via econsult. This is contrary to the information provided on their website which says you can make an apt by calling and also the answerphone message. My experience is that econsults result in a phone call or an email from a GP despite a face to face being requested and appropriate and every effort is being made not to see patients face to face.

I have been with the surgery over 22 yrs and with now 3 grown children I cannot fault the surgery. I have always had my needs met and quite swiftly at that and they have always been helpful to my queries and questions. I've always managed to get an appt also when needed.. I have been and still am extremely happy with the service of this practice.
