  1. Review titled Appalling

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Brian - Posted on 18 January 2023

Used to be good place. Now it is intolerable. Rude receptionists who seem to be medically qualified for some reason. A simple request from Consultant at Addenbrookes for a new drug prescription is beyond their capabilities so I am using hospital instead.

  2. Review titled Telephone trials and tribulations

Rated 4 stars out of 5

This review relates solely to the difficulties encountered in phoning for an appointment at 8:00am. The response suggests the call is connected and it is then necessary to listen to a long message before connecting to reception, at which stage (every call) I was in was promptly disconnected, despite calling at 8:00am on the dot. Reading others' experiences too, it would seem the current system is not working well in terms of patient experience. If, following repeated attempts to get into a queue (at e.g. no 13), a long wait ensues with no indication there will be no appointments left by the time the call is answered. It is no longer possible to call in person at 8:00am, as the doors open at 8.30am, by which time there are no appointments left. It is like Russian Roulette, as to whether one can connect to a receptionist or not! I believe the current system needs addressing as soon as possible. I have positive experiences of face to face contact with the nurses and GP's and think this aspect lets the surgery down. Given such a positive previous CQC report, it seems a pity that this aspect, of communication and accessibility lets down what is a great surgery, and when this could be resolved for the benefit of all. The current system seems very difficult for both patients and receptionists, who seem stressed out by it also.

  4. Review titled Potentially good practice

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I would say this practice potentially could good. Some of doctors are better than usual low standard of NHS. The biggest problem is a ridiculous booking system. They told me that I have to call at 8 each morning, even though my appointment is not urgent. Apparently you can use app but not for children. So I need to spend hours before I have a chance to get one while trying to get ready for school work! Simply impossible

  5. Review titled Impossible to see a doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

The Firs house surgery was, prior to Covid, excellent. Sadly, it now seems a shell of its former self. It is near impossible to see a doctor. To get an appointment you need to ring up at 8.00am exactly and be prepared to ring repeatedly over the next forty minutes or so. If you are lucky, you will then get a phone consultation later in the day, though it will almost certainly not be with a doctor. This is not to knock the nursing staff, but for good, long term, proactive healthcare, patients need to see a doctor face to face, at least occasionally. I support the NHS and have great admiration and support for anyone who works within it, but despair at what is happening to our GP service,

  6. Review titled Fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I felt unwell and described my symptoms to the receptionist, she advised me to take in a urine sample which I did within half an hour. I was advised the nurse would dip test the sample and about an hour later I telephoned again as I was concerned about my symptoms. The receptionist told me the dip test had been done and I was on the list for a call from the duty doctor. Within an hour the doctor called, she was kind, caring and helpful and my prescription was sent straight to my local chemist. In less than 3 hours from my first call I started my medication, I really couldn’t ask for better service, they were all absolutely fantastic.

  7. Review titled Poor level of care and woefully unprofessional

Rated 1 star out of 5

The Doctors, if you can get through to get an appointment show a very low level of care or concern for your welfare. They do not listen, are rude and dismissive, as the receptionists are often too. You have little say in what treatment might be best suited for you. You are offered the bare minimum of care when being treated, and i use the word treated loosely. The information they provide is poor as is their communication. They do not offer basic standard practice of follow up appointments even when necessary. Dignity and respect? Not at Firs House Surgery They used to better.
