Review titled very rude receptionist

I have to start by saying that the receptionists are usually very friendly, polite and helpful. But today I encountered a rude and dismissive receptionist. I understand they are short staffed, under pressure and have to deal with rude people, but you have to maintain a certain level of professionalism. I had an ultrasound scan and was told to call the doctor to book a follow up. When I called, before I could finish, I was told abruptly I had to call the doctor on the day. When I explained my situation I was told that my results were in, and when would I like to speak to a doctor. Meanwhile she is obviously munching on a bag of crisps and making no effort to cover that up. After saying I'd like to speak to a doctor next week, I was told that she couldn't guarantee it, it was dependent on the doctor. I then said I presumed the scan was clear and it wasn't serious to which she replied " I don't know, I'm not a doctor" - I was never at any point impolite, but all I got was a "I'd rather be anywhere but here" dismissive tone and a lot of munching. Having discovered a lump on my neck and rather concerned about it, I'd expect a doctor's receptionist to at least have a little understanding. Should not be working in a doctor's surgery with this attitude. Wholly unacceptable.

The GP was very helpful, she identified the problem and gave me recommendations, in terms of medication, treatment and booked me for physiotherapy. All very efficiently on the phone and online to share photos.

I rang to ask a few details about registering as I was advised to do by a doctor that referred me- firstly I rang 3 times and was hung up on twice by the receptionist and the last time when she actually spoke to me she was dismissive and didn't even let me finish asking my question, I had about two words out before saying, we can't help you and hung up not even saying bye or letting me try finishing my sentence.

I had tried for many days to get through by telephone, but it proved virtually impossible. On many occasions I held on for up to 20 mins before giving up. When finally getting through the reception team were obstructive and dismissive. The doctors in this practice are amazing, but trying to see one now takes more time than a person working full time can afford to give. There are plenty of people there to answer phones, but it does not seem to be a priority at all.

Me and my partner were ill and needed to see a doctor. The receptionist was very understanding and booked in with a phone call with a doctor who then called not long after. We were also kept informed by text message. After we had spoke to the doctor the prescription was sent to the pharmacy promptly. Very good service from all involved.

I have been registered at this practice for almost 30 years and I have always received a good medical care. They have always been polite and very efficient in answering my emails. I would be very happy to recommend this practice to my friends.
