  2. Review titled Not suitable if you have a baby

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 June 2022

This practice seems to have zero priority if you require an appointment for your baby. After seeking advice from 111, they suggested I arrange an appointment with my GP. It took over an hour to successfully call the reception and once I got through, I was then placed onto a queue for a further 20 minutes before finally speaking to someone. Once I explained the situation and pain my 1 year old was seemingly in, I was told the best they could do was an out of hours telephone consultation, which even then would not guarantee we would be able to see someone on the same day. I understand how telephone consultations can be a good way to triage general questions or concerns. However, when it comes to a child who cannot verbally communicate the pain they are experiencing, this does not seem a suitable solution. I questioned the receptionist how this was deemed a suitable process for a baby and I was told that 'this is just how it's done here'. I was then told that the best way I could see someone is by going to A&E. This is an unacceptable solution to get a healthcare professional to see my child. My concerns would not be considered either an accident or an emergency, but simply a wish for a professional to look at my daughter and see if they felt there was anything to be concerned about. When it comes to a baby and ultimately having to guess what the cause of any pain might be, I absolutely should not have to resort to a service that the NHS describes should be used in the event of things such as injuries, loss of consciousness or breathing difficulties. I would like an explanation of how the surgery feels this is safe practice for babies and what their reaction would be if I chose for my child to endure the pain they were in until the next available telephone consultation (almost 9 hours) only for them to find it was a very serious situation. After I spoke to the practice, I called 111 to get further advice on my next steps and whoever I spoke to was quite surprised that a surgery was not able to accommodate a physical appointment even for a baby and subtly implied I should consider changing surgeries. I think they are right.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your feedback and bringing this to my attention. I am sorry that you had difficulty in obtaining the help you needed for your 1 year old child and you were unable to speak or see the doctor. Also, for the time it took to get to speak to a receptionist on the phone. I would be more than happy to discuss this issue with you and investigate further. Please do not hesitate to contact me at the surgery by e-mail: practice.managerf81060@nhs.net or contact me in person at the practice where I can discuss this further with you. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards Sandra Laver Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Can't get through

Rated 2 stars out of 5

It's utterly ridiculous that you cannot get through to book an appointment. For the last 3 days I have been calling at 8am, lines busy. I have redialed over 100 times in the space of 3 days, sat on hold for nearly 2 hours over the space of 3 days and STILL haven't got an appointment. I have already seen a gp who has advised me I need a referral but only my own gp can do that, yet it's impossible to speak to him let alone actually see him in person. It's just not good enough.
