  1. Review titled Non-existent appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 September 2022

My 83 year old husband was sent a letter asking him to phone regarding an appointment and was asked to attend wigan health Centre at Boston House, Wigan on Monday 19 September at 10.25 am. Has multiple mobility problems but arrived on time and was told by receptionist the appointment didn't exist. He phoned today to complain, a standard apology given, no explanation and was given a new appointment time. Not good enough!!

  2. Review titled Great skills

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 August 2022

I rang up the delivery suite at Royal Albert Edward as I was concerned about reduced movements, the student I spoke to on the phone was calm and reassuring and never made me feel any sort of worry or anxiety with how she handled the call. If it wasn’t for this student I would’ve gotten myself even more worked up and worried but she definitely kept me calm.

  3. Review titled operation cancelled again, 5th time now

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Tom Reynolds - Posted on 04 August 2022

please don't expect to have your operation at this hospital . they are giving out dates they can't meet, and are now dredging the barrel for excuses. they have no regard for the upheaval and financial loss you will incur when they give you a date and then cancel it. I am at my wits end now , I don't know if I can do anymore. i wouldn't mind too much but its the blatant lies and contempt they treat you with, do they really think people believe the feeble excuses, and they always seem to phone you when all the offices are closed for the day/ weekend. In their defence I can only be grateful that they don't manufacture parachutes, because I for one would not put one on my back and jump out of a plane.

  4. Review titled Wrist surgery and Ward 1

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Steve H - Posted on 04 August 2022

The care leading up to my day-case was really good but from arriving at Ward 1 early on a Tuesday morning to leaving later that night was truly fantastic. With only two ward staff to handle multiple, what seemed to be a variety of nervous / anxious / over-confident / demanding patients, they handled everyone with kindness, dignity, caring and efficiency. They were obviously a really good team with the HCA being still in training, you really wouldn't have known he was truly brilliant, the knowledge that the fully qualified nurse was there being very very busy and making sure all us patients were ready and moved quickly when the theatre teams were ready for us. After my procedure the continuity of that friendly, efficient and caring environment meant re-awakening a little confused was not an issue at all and just the right amount of privacy and inclusion was much appreciated. J + B seemed to be omnipresent, if I thought that I may need to change my position in my bed or suddenly felt very thirsty, they seemed to know exactly what I needed - all of us in the little ward said the same thing. As I was the last person to leave the ward that day, and being there since before 8am I truly did get to see what great teamwork can achieve. Further assistance from the staff of the female-side of the ward enabled staff to have a [very] late lunch break but the high level of care and attention did not fall at any point. For a patient with a non-medical background what I saw and felt made me extremely proud of the facilities that are so local to me. From the highly skilled and articulate surgeon and anaesthetic team to the fabulous ward team and latterly the physios Wrightington Hospital has proved to a nervous middle-aged man that, although being in pain is something definitely to be avoided, if you are and are referred to this hospital, you have the best possible skills and care on hand to get you on the road back to normality. I can't thank everyone enough. T H A N K Y O U

  5. Review titled Telephone‘Consultation’

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Lorraine - Posted on 13 April 2022

My experience of my care with the Rheumatology Dept has been overall excellent. Except for yesterday. Was scheduled for a telephone consultation for which I rearranged my work hours which also meant a colleague swapping her own shift to accommodate my ‘appointment’. I needn’t have bothered. The call lasted literally 2 minutes in which the ‘consultant’ asked me to confirm each of my medication and then went on to confirm results of a Dexa scan I recently had - these results I already knew. And that was it. No questions about if I had had any flares recently, how they’ve affected me etc. Nothing. I really wanted to ask his advice about recent falls I had had which seem to be increasing. I wanted to ask him about the pain in my knees and their constant locking - again increasing in occurrence. I did mention it in one sentence but wasn’t given the opportunity to explain further as he had interrupted me and said he would ‘look into offering me physio’ and then rang off. Very, very disappointing. I’m even considering not accepting any more ‘appointments’. What’s the point when you aren’t given the chance to discuss any issues you are having?

  6. Review titled Appointment cancelled and I wasn't told

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Christine bowcock - Posted on 19 April 2022

I am not too sure what happened but I was sat waiting for a virtual pre-op (must say I was nervous as due an op).... no call happened so I called the customer contact line 2 hours later to be told I was rude for asking and my appointment was cancelled due to short staff... The lady I spoke to in Pre-Op virtual actually made me cry with her manner and words. I was given another number to ring and I spoke to another lady who said she would contact the relevant team and call me back.... I am still waiting and non the wiser? I would recommend that even if staff are stressed it is also very stressful being a patient and we are only human who wish to talk to someone who is kind! I don't even mind if it was bad news !
