  2. Review titled Excellent staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by Rebecca H - Posted on 12 January 2023

Thank you to the staff at the A&E department. I visited on a Saturday afternoon in December and, while the waiting times were obviously long, I was always kept aware of what I was waiting for. More than this, all the staff - from triage to doctor to nurses - were kind, friendly, patient and clear when examining me. I saw this behaviour towards the other patients, as well. The pressure the department was under was clear, and I did end up waiting for about 2-3 hours for blood test results after initial waiting times to be seen (total time from arrival/departure probably 5hrs). But I was kept informed and moved to a quieter and less stressful waiting area. I went expecting long waiting times, frazzled staff and frustrated patients. I saw long waiting times, lovely staff working well under pressure and understanding and patient patients. This isn't to de-value others' experiences, but I wanted to say thanks for my experience.

  3. Review titled Pharmacy is appallingly poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 November 2022

The pharmacy needs vast improvement both in terms of the building (it is a portakabin outside the main hospital on Denmark Hill) and in terms of staffing. Patients have to queue outside for a very long time first to give their name/details of their prescription and then have to queue again to receive their meds once the prescription has been processed. These are people who are unwell - they have been in outpatient clinics or A & E and therefore should not have to stand outside in all weathers for such lengths of time. Yesterday I had to wait over an hour to collect a prescription. It was cold and raining - there was no shelter when waiting in the first queue. For the second queue, there was only a small 'shed' to wait in if you had a mobile phone where you could receive a text when your meds were ready. If no mobile phone, you just had to stand in the cold and rain and wait. There was a young mum in front of me with a young child who had been in A & E since 10.00 that morning having been sent there by her GP. She was waiting for a prescription - this was now 5.45 pm. During the time I was there, several of the staff who were behind the counters left - presumably because their shift had finished. By the time I collected my prescription, there was only one person on duty out of a possible 5 - but the queue outside was still the same. Clearly staff have to finish their shifts but the hospital management should also recognise that the pharmacy needs to be adequately staffed. I hope everyone who has experienced long waits uses the feedback tablet located just inside the door of the pharmacy - however I suspect not. Most people were just glad to have got their meds and be on their way. I am appalled that Kings thinks this is an acceptable - or even a humane - service.

  4. Review titled Vascular Surgery Managers Sees Numbers Not People

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 November 2022

Last year I had a surgery at the Vascular Lab and didn't go well. Since February 2022 my leg hurts daily and some days are hard. I managed to get an appointment with the surgeon in early August; and today I was eagerly going to meet him again to discuss what to do next. Then my appointment got cancelled at last minute and I was re-booked in 3 months time. The secretary told me that it was the managers decision to cancel today's appointments in the clinic and that there aren't free bookings until February. I am feeling frustrated because my pain is daily and these managers just condemned me to 90 extra days of pain. As it's not they that are suffering and in pain, it's easy to play and juggle with others discomfort where patients are numbers and not people.

  5. Review titled Poor and slow

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul - Posted on 29 October 2022

Waiting times are very long and no ones is giving out any information or updates. Not many proffesionals around to see the patients so very slow turn around. If you have to go allow most of the day or call an ambulance.

  7. Review titled Worst hospital experience of my life

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Leah - Posted on 12 August 2022

My mother was brought in an ambulance to A&E on 11pm Thursday night. We waited around 7 hours before she was given a CT scan. No information on wait times was given by the staff, and we were told that she could not go home and receive the results over the phone, which would have been acceptable if they could have offered a bed. They could not, and as of 7.46am Friday morning she still does not have a bed. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hospital, and I would never recommend it as a place to be treated.

  8. Review titled Awful administration

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Very disappointed - Posted on 10 August 2022

They keep cancelling urgent appointments literally at the last moment even after we have travelled for hours in the heat! Really must get their act together before the winter if it's this bad now what's it going to be like then?

  9. Review titled Thank you for the care and attention you gave to my Father

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Margaret Rowland (Farell) - Posted on 05 July 2022

My Father was admitted to A&E on 30.06.22 following a heart attack. I would like to thank the Paramedics, the A&E ward, the Cardiologist & team and the staff on the Victoria & Albert ward for the care & attention you all gave him. Only for you all he would not be here with us today. Thank you all from his family.

  10. Review titled NHS at it’s best

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Laura Mailer RGN - Posted on 28 June 2022

Despite being very anxious about having cardiac ablation, there was no need as the staff were so professional, kind and compassionate. The Cardiologist and all of the staff working in the cardiac catheterisation suite were so proficient and reassuring before and during the procedure. The skills of all involved has humbled me. So I would like to thank everyone that I dealt with during my day stay from the bottom of my heart ( that is now beating regularly). Thank you again.
