  1. Review titled Excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Veronika - Posted on 06 April 2024

We visited A&E on Saturday morning with my 2 year old daughter. The waiting time was about an hour. All staff was very nice and helpful. The doctor fixed my daughter's pulled elbow and explained everything clearly. Great service!

  2. Review titled Potentially dangerous experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 April 2024

I visited A&E after being sent there by my GP due to a mental health crisis. The triage team did an excellent job. However, the person I saw from the acute mental health team was not at all helpful. In fact, they were potentially dangerous in that the comments they made were inappropriate and upsetting. They didn’t listen to my story or history, they made a lot of assumptions without giving me space to clarify, and they shared far too much of their own story and issues. Had I been in an even more vulnerable mental state at the time, their actions could easily have pushed me into dangerous behaviour. In the end, they did agree to refer me to the home treatment service for mental health, but seemed to think this was unlikely to help. Having seen that team this morning - they were excellent, professional, compassionate, and provided the necessary support.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I'm so sorry to read that the acute mental health team did not help you and in fact, added to your distress. You should have been listened to carefully and treated with sensitivity and empathy and I'm very sorry this wasn't the case. It's reassuring to hear that the home treatment service was able to provide the support you needed and I hope you are recovering well. I will make sure that your experience is shared with the team and used to improve the service they provide. If you would like to talk to me about this please contact pals@geh.nhs.uk and ask for Becky. Best wishes, Becky Head of Patient Experience and Volunteering

  3. Review titled Great hospital, terrible parking

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Charlie - Posted on 24 April 2024

Visited here quite a few times and always had great interactions with staff, especially the physio department. The parking situation at the hospital is ridiculous though, if you've got an afternoon appointment you've no chance of getting parked. I've been late to appointments when I got to the car park half an hour prior to my appointment.

  4. Review titled Great kindness and a cheerful approach

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I'm a volunteer who takes patients to hospital and other medical appointments. I took a gentleman, 87 years of age, in for an MRI scan late on Saturday afternoon. Despite being disappointed that she and her colleague hadn't seen any patients that afternoon ( they had failed to turn up for appointments...how frustrating and costly is that?!!), the clinician was friendly, caring, funny, and very respectful of her patient, taking notice of his disabilities. Both he and I were very impressed by the two ladies care and attention, especially as he was a little worried about the procedure . I wanted to highlight this, in contrast to many uncomplimentary reviews that are written, usually based on the delays in A & E . The NHS is under huge pressure, as we all should acknowledge and it is no surprise that there will be waiting time involved, and occasional poor attention or approach by staff. It shouldn't be forgotten that we might all let standards slip if we were overworked, tired, on a treadmill of shifts..and then not paid at a level appropriate to our life saving skills.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post feedback about your experience. Thank you also for the time and energy you dedicate to volunteering and helping this gentleman attend his appointment. You are right, it is both frustrating and costly when people don't turn up for appointments and adds to the huge pressures the health service is under. But I am so glad to read that the patient was treated with care and that the staff were respectful of his disabilities. I will make sure your feedback is shared with the MRI team. As you rightly highlight, compliments are rare and will mean the world to this team. Best wishes, Becky Head of Patient Experience and Volunteering

  5. Review titled Feel like a nuisance

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2024

When elderly patients are in a ward it would be helpful for relatives to know who they can ask for information and updates. At present, it seems to be a system of referring you to staff who view you as a nuisance for asking them. We are only asking out of concern for people we love. We understand that staff are busy and under pressure but some compassion and appreciation for how worried and concerned we are would go a long way.

Someone very close to me has been referred to see the neurologist at gewith what is expected to be a very serious diagnosis , this referral was done in May 2023 the appointment has arrived for 17th april 2024 yes 2024, you cannot begin to imagine the stress this has caused, I just find it unbelievable that something so potentially serious has an 11 month wait, I have alway though ge we’re one of the better hospitals but maybe the care has gone from there too.

  7. Review titled Needs improvement.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Ivor - Posted on 18 November 2023

Despite so many brilliant staff, who are supportive of the National Health Service and its future, I could not recommend this hospital without many changes. During my stay at the hospital, I believe that I was misdiagnosed and I could not understand the main Consultant and other Managers. Glad to be home and independent.

  9. Review titled Staff were excellent.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by dawn - Posted on 21 March 2023

Called in for an ultrasound, external and internal: a potentially worrying/ uncomfortable/ embarrassing experience. The appointment was in the evening which was very convenient, no waiting, straight in. The two members of staff were fantastic: reassuring, professional , but with a friendly and understanding manner. The procedure was therefore not stressful. I was very impressed. Having had some appalling experiences elsewhere it was a relief to be treated so well

What a fantastic, proactive and empathetic team. Every single one of the team a credit to the hospital. I felt safe,,listened to and was never left feeling I was asking too much. The calm nature of the unit/staff made the experience easier to go through. You are all amazing.
