All of the staff I had contact with were very professional, sympathetic and caring. The general atmosphere of the unit was one of optimism and positivity. I was transferred to Chapman Barker from my local hospital and was to be given a 7 day detox for alcohol withdrawal - some patients stay a little longer if their admission is planned via engagement with local alcohol services. From the moment I arrived I was put at ease, given a quick explanation of what to expect during my stay and was shown to my single room, before being administered medication to combat withdrawal symptoms. I was very weak and unwell for the first couple of days at the unit but received good support and encouragement from staff and fellow patients alike. After this I was able to take part in the group dicussions and activities which were also very helpful. By the time i was discharged my health and outlook was much improved. Thankyou Chapman Barker for starting me down the path of sobriety and, although I'm only about 6 weeks dry at this point I hope to be in a position to notify you of a much longer span of abstinence in future.
