  1. Review titled Very poor communication from staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

Communication skills of staff on Hawthorne ward were less than poor . Senior Nurse ( navy uniform) wouldn’t engage with me about Mums care claimed didn’t know Mum after two weeks . Told by same nurse Mums personal care(hair washing ) was not a priority and could do it myself . Same senior nurse rude when telling me I had got visiting times wrong . Got the impression she didn’t like me because I questioned her about things on the ward . Another nurse on Ward when I tried to ask about Mums care said her named nurse was on a break and she knew nothing about it told would just have to phone the ward . Meetings held at the wards request were disorganised the LA representative was pulled in at the last minute without any prep and the information she was able to provide was limited (not her fault as was nit given time to prepare) Junior nurse ( health care ?) raising her voice to me in a second meeting to discuss my Mums onward care . Accusational tone was unacceptable and very embarrassing. The general overall care was average. The ward was generally clean but the food was poor . For the last 30 years I have had senior responsibility for food in a large acute hospital and the service at Tickhill Road was like stepping back in time and needs a serious overhaul. I’m not exactly sure how the CQC rating managed to be Overall Good I think Requires Improvement would be more appropriate. Finally to add insult to injury when my Mother was due to transfer to a care home I prepared everything packed her bags and hung her clothes in the ward robe for the journey. Imagine my surprise when Mum arrived in the days before outfit and the clothes I left have not been found a brand new jumper and trousers the Ward claim they have not be found …… a small thing but upsetting for Mum and just further evidence of lack of personal care it’s the little things that count ! I would welcome a response to my comments and receiving so and the content will decide whether this needs to be raised with CQC not as a complaint but as points of improvement which is my reason for sending this communication.
