  1. Review titled Amazing nurse

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janice - Posted on 17 April 2024

I love the nurse with black hair and she wears a hijab. She is quite short and wears a purple nurse outfit. She makes the experience of going to the hospital and medical daycare bearable. She treats me not like a patient but like a friend. She is also so kind and loving and was really nice to my mum.

  2. Review titled Amazing Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed he was a morning patient and I cannot thank all the nurses enough for how they cared for my baby when he was on the ward. The surgeon was so amazing you can’t tell my son has even had an operation with the way he was eating and playing as soon as he came around. But especially the way the anaesthetist and his team worked was so wonderful they instantly made me feel at ease with leaving my son in their hands. All of them were so friendly, so thoughtful and honestly the playful manner they gave my son his ‘web shooter’ just made a daunting moment such an incredible experience. I cannot and will not be able to thank you enough for that.

  3. Review titled Poor

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 March 2024

Son has swollen glands, severe headaches and joint pains, has been running temperature. Was admitted last week got discharged on weekend. No improvement, swelling on the face getting worse, walking challenging due to pains, headaches getting worse. Came back to A&E 25.03.24, waiting to be seen by Medics since 19.15hrs its now 2.52am on 26.03.24. We have been next to be seen for the past 4 hours. Child has been on a couch since 19.15, we are getting close to 8hrs and no sign of Medics. Twice nurses came to take obs but not enquire if he require pain relief, so I have to give him medication from home. I am close to just give up but scared that this unexplained swollen glands, severe headaches might be something more serious. Initially they had suspected mumps and/or glandular fever, the test and swab came back negative twice. I am sure the doctors are busy but 8hrs wait is unjustified. It makes the experience horrible.

  4. Review titled Excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stefanie Barringer - Posted on 05 January 2024

My daughter was on the medical daypatient ward having bloods taken. She is autistic and has sensory issues and anxiety. She was so worried about the procedure. The nurses on the ward were so kind and compassionate. They put her at ease, they spoke to her so she understood what was happening at every stage, they took it slowly at her pace. She managed for the first time to have her blood taken which was totally down to the nurse. All the staff told her how well she had done and that she had been brave which made her feel so good about herself. She has got over her fear of having to come into hospital again because of the lovely staff. My daughter has been to the children’s hospital a lot and I always feel that the staff go above and beyond here

  5. Review titled Great staff, shame about cleanliness of waiting area

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 January 2023

I had to take my son to A&E with a soaring temperature last night. We were seen within 2hrs, all the staff were excellent I cannot praise them enough. I was concerned however about the cleanliness of the waiting area. There were quite a lot of children with temperatures/bugs. The chairs and floors were covered with used tissues and cups etc.. the two hours I was there it was not cleaned. Even when a member of cleaning staff appeared, cups/tissues were removed from chairs, but that's it. The floor still covered in rubbish, no wiping down of surfaces. I was disappointed that in a place where infection control should be paramount, it was distinctly lacking. Such a shame when the actual care given to my son was exceptional

Thank you for providing this feedback. I am sorry to hear that the cleanliness of the A&E department fell short of what is expected. The feedback has been given to the service managers within the facilities team. If you would like to discuss this further, please email scn-tr.pals@nhs.net Many thanks, Sarah

  6. Review titled We would be in a much worse place without you

    by kilojd96 - Posted on 10 March 2023

My 11-month-old son had a prolonged seizure. Yorkshire ambulance service attended and took him to Sheffield Children's Hospital. I was amazed at the way the paramedics were able to carry out their job effectively but also keep updating us about the situation and what they were doing. When we arrived at A&E the communication was just as good, every time a member of staff had a few seconds to spare they would come over to me and my partner to tell us what was happening. It really helped in a scary situation. We spent a night and day on ICU and you could tell it was extremely busy, the level of attention was not the same, but staff were clearly trying their best. We were transferred to Ward 5, where the staff were very attentive. My son celebrated his first birthday in hospital with meningitis, which was obviously upsetting for us in addition to everything else. The staff on the ward went above and beyond, surprising us with a birthday cake. We were so grateful for this little detail and all the care they gave to our son. On days when he was feeling a little better, my son wanted to crawl around and didn't like sitting still much. However, it was hard to find a space for him to do this. The floor was hard and he ended up slipping and hitting his mouth on the floor. The staff did provide some soft mats but a larger soft space (eg. carpet in the play room) would be my only suggested improvement. Since coming home we've had to attend A&E several times or call 111 and although it's been exceptionally busy the staff have always made time to provide thorough care and even on occasions where it was only reassurance that was needed. Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at Sheffield Children's Hospital and Yorkshire Ambulance Service. We would be in a much worse place without you.

  7. Review titled Children's A&E department

    by triangulumnk84 - Posted on 07 November 2022

Attended A&E as advised by paramedics, couldn't get a ambulance. My daughter had an anaphylaxis episode and epi pen administered at home. The protocol then as per guidance on her action plan from Sheffield Children's is to be monitored closely at hospital. My partner had to take her up to the hospital as there was no ambulance. Upon arriving it was very busy. Our daughter was triaged quickly. I made them aware in triage daughter is autistic and should be monitored in a side room to be told to go take her to a busy waiting room. Not good for an autistic child - their lack of empathy and training on autism needs updating. Also after over an hour of waiting, not one person monitored my daughter. I informed the nurses I was taking her home where I stayed up all night myself to monitor her. I had a missed call 5 hours later I presume to check where we were. Shocking patient care and shocking awareness on autism.

  8. Review titled Exceptional care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lauren Pooley - Posted on 29 October 2022

This is unfortunately the second time my son has been under Sheffield Children’s Hospitals care. Both times my husband and I have felt very reassured that my son was getting first class care; from A&E, right through to his discharge (last year) we felt we were all in safe hands, understood and supported. The staff are caring, confident and very knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble.

  9. Review titled Exceptional care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nicole - Posted on 13 August 2022

Each member of staff we came in contact with went above and beyond to provide exceptional care to our little boy before, during and after his surgery. Nothing was too much trouble, they all took the time to chat to him, look at his toys and we felt they valued him as a little person. Everyone was friendly and positive, his room on the ward was bright, clean and comfortable and he was regularly observed. His surgery was successful and he is recovering well. Thank you to everyone who was involved.
