  1. Review titled Good hospital but there are things to improve

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Larina - Posted on 15 April 2024

    1. Please highlight in a letter that patients might need to wait up to 4 hours. As a neurodivergent person I overlooked this part and depends on the situation it can cause some problem. 2. At the reception area, please clarify where you suppose to queue for Eye clinic, where Ear and etc. I got shouted because I didn't get straight away so as many other people. Overall I had a good experience, and a doctor was friendly and knowledgeable with a clear communication.

  2. Review titled The centre is excellent! All the staff are brilliant.

by Neurorehabcentre - Posted on 05 January 2024

I woke up one morning and noticed that my lip had dropped. I had a stroke in November 2023. I came to the Rehab centre soon after. The centre is excellent! All the staff are brilliant with their jobs that they have to do and are so caring.

  3. Review titled I like the environment of the centre

    by plushy78 - Posted on 05 January 2024

I was in hospital for two weeks before I came to the Rehab centre. I prefer to be here in the Rehab centre so that I can focus on rehabilitation. I had a mild stoke about a month ago. I like the environment of the centre, I like the view outside of my window and there's an outdoor area in the centre for some fresh air, which is very good.

  4. Review titled Happy with service but a few slight suggestions!

by GB patient - Posted on 06 October 2023

I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome in Barnet General Hospital in July. I spent 8 weeks in ICU, 10 days in Spruce Ward ( mainly for Stroke Patients) and then transferred to NRC Edgware. I was very happy to come here and my experience has been very positive. The nursing staff generally have a good balance between caring for me, and encouraging me to be independent as I have improved. They have also been very welcoming and flexible towards my visitors - and even made them cups of tea. The Physios and OT teams have also helped me a lot - particularly at the gym sessions and making the steps between wheelchair and rollator/zimmer and then on to independent walking. They have assessed my home needs and arranged for the equipment to be delivered ready for a home visit. I have also enjoyed the breakfast club and cooking sessions. Although there are activities with volunteers etc in the afternoon and I have been lucky to have a lot of visitors, I feel it would be beneficial if there were a few more exercise opportunities in the afternoon ( I know we can do them independently but it is not quite the same! ) Likewise for the weekend - I have had lots of visitors and also gone out but it must be very boring for some. I have also really appreciated going into the outdoor space - particularly with grandchildren and my dog! It is a shame it looks a bit neglected - perhaps some volunteers could help! It has been great to spend 4 weeks in a ‘safe space’ while I continued to improve and with people who helped me. Also a shout out for the doctors who have answered all my questions and treated me with respect.

  5. Review titled I have taken with me happy memories to remember the rest of my life

    by charlieqz89 - Posted on 13 October 2023

Had a stroke which affected the movement on my right side. When I arrived at the NRC in Edgware Community Hospital I could not move my fingers or toes. I was wheelchair bound with a blue arm support. Had a great time here with support from the whole staff, from cleaners to the doctors. They showed me kindness and respect throughout my stay. The physio team were brilliant in the gym, never give up was their motto, always try your best. Now I can walk with a four prong stick and move all my fingers. Sorry to leave but I have taken with me happy memories to remember the rest of my life.

  6. Review titled The staff at the NRC unit are really lovely and helpful.

    by Susan033 - Posted on 06 October 2023

I fell down the stairs and I had a fractured skull and two bleeds on the brain. I came to rehab to get my self back to myself which I still don't feel me. Being at the unit has helped me a lot. The staff are really lovely and helpful.

  7. Review titled My journey to recovery

    by Celery61 - Posted on 23 November 2023

I had a blood clot pass through an artery in my spine which caused me to lose sensation below the waist. It took a while (over a week and 3 MRI’s) for the neurologists to get the correct diagnosis as this is a very rare event. After about 10 days I began to regain sensation in my legs but bladder and bowels were not under my control. It was decided I was a good candidate for neuro rehabilitation. The physios in hospital got me out of bed and into a wheelchair, gave me leg exercises and motivated me to start weight bearing. After 4 weeks in hospital I went to a neuro rehab unit to continue my progress. No one knows how well I’ll recover as little data exists on this rare condition. However early indications were good. I was determined (naively) to make a full recovery in rehab in 6 weeks… I have made significant progress as I can now walk very slow with that aid of a 4 pronged stick. I’m really looking forward to going home and continuing my recovery.

  8. Review titled Great department and care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Christine Ched-di - Posted on 01 August 2023

This morning I had a breast screening appointment which I was not looking forward to as due to past experience in other units. From the receptionist to the screening staff I have to say they were amazing. As I’m disabled I was given time between to sit between scans and never seen as a problem when I was unable to stand for too long. Thank you so much for being so understanding!

  9. Review titled I received excellent advice and support

    by scutumjy83 - Posted on 21 November 2023

I was discharged from hospital and referred to the Community Neurological Management Condition Team (CNCMT), Edgware Community Centre. I had extremely limited mobility when I was discharged from hospital. I was initially seen and assessed at home by a Physio. This led to being being given a series of exercises to do at home to assist my mobility. Over the course of the next few weeks I was able to go from moving around the house with the assistance of a frame to walking outside with a walking stick. I received excellent advice and support from the Physio during this period. I am now able to walk unaided. As part of the CNCMT package of support I was also visited and received advice from a Dietician. This has greatly assisted in eating more healthily and regaining the weight lost from my hospitalisation.

  10. Review titled Curious

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ronald Engelbert - Posted on 19 July 2023

This morning (19th July 2023) I had a physiotherapy appointment. It was my first appointment for back and hip pain. The session lasted 45 minutes. The physiotherapist was excellent - thorough, professional and caring. However, the first 15 minutes were taken up with questions and answers about my current symptoms, my medical history and my medications. All of these are, or should be, on my medical record. Is this not a great waste of NHS time?
