  1. Review titled Good breast clinic experience as an autistic patient

by Keybarb - Posted on 27 August 2022

I found a breast lump and accessed care at Spire Murrayfield through my partner's health insurance. The service was quick and my concerns were immediately validated and investigated. I explained to the consultant that due to feeling tender, and also due to my autistic sensitivities, I would prefer to come back for my scans afer a few days -- they completely understood why I needed this. The mammogram and ultrasound technicians were very understanding about my autism, and explained everything carefully so I could understand and avoid sensory overload and meltdowns. Over the years I've developed a fear of doctors due to autism and chronic illness being misunderstood as irrational or health anxiety. This was a really positive, reassuring and healing experience. [Very happy with 'Seeing the whole me']
