  1. Review titled Appointments

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have always been seen whenever I needed to, if no appointments the duty doctor will speak over phone and if they feel it is something needed that day you will be fitted in.Always feel I am listened to and dealt with professionally. The practice has recently updated the phone system, and keep patients updated by text. Nothing to complain about personally at the health centre. I do notice the number of patients that do not turn up for appointments which is displayed in reception, why not cancel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am happy to hear that you are happy with the service you have been provided. I am very aware of the number of appointments that are wasted by patients failing to attend and not cancelling in advance. I understand that there are occasions whereby patients are unable to attend, however I am reviewing our policy to look at repeat failures to attend appointments and consider removing these patients from our list. Thank you for taking the time to leave a positive review. I will share this with my team as they do all work extremely hard and don't always receive the positive feedback they deserve Dawn Practice Manager.

  2. Review titled Diabolical

I waited 4 weeks for an appointment which was for 5 Oct. Today (4 Oct) I received a text to say that my appointment was cancelled and has been moved to 3 weeks later as a Dr was on long term sick...which of course cannot be helped. Phoning to enquire as to why my appt was cancelled I asked if it was the Dr I was seeing that was off sick to be told "no" but as he is the lead Dr in the practice all of his appts have to be cancelled...really.... how is this fair? I advised that I was now in extreme pain and had no medication to control the pain and needed to be seen so I can be prescribed the medication I need, to be told to phone at 8.30 in the morning. I am furious as this is not a one off appt that has been cancelled it happens on a regular basis. My son has had 4 appointments moved also in the last 2 months due to a Dr being off on long term sickness. He needs his scan results to start private physio but has been told that he has to wait for this Dr to come off long term sick to get the results and no other Dr can provide this information; this is very poor service by the practice...why can only 1 Dr in Weaver vale provide the results of a scan? Priority should be given to patients who have waited weeks for an appointment, although most of the time when making the initial appt it may not be urgent, having to wait a further month or so for another appointment would exasperate their condition.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you are unhappy with the service that you have received from the practice and would like to offer our apologies for the appointments which have been changed. Unfortunately we have had five doctors become unwell over the last few months, two of which have been hospitalised, and we are very aware that patients appointments have been changed and for some patients on more than one occasion. Unfortunately this is outside of our control and not something that we are able to plan for. When a doctor is unable to attend work we must prioritise our sickest patients and this is thouse who are accessing a same day urgent appointment and who will become very unwell or be hospitalised if not seen on the same day. We also have to ensure that our doctors who are in work have a safe workload to ensure they can make safe decision for our patients. This means that patients who have a routine appointment booked will be rescheduled. We are aware how difficult it is to obtain an appointment, due to demand on the system, so we will always provide an alternative date rather that just cancel the appointment. If you have an urgent medical need that would result in you becoming seriously unwell if not seen you can contact the practice for an urgent same day appointment. If a doctor has reviewed a result and has asked the patient to make an appointment, they will have a plan in mind as to what the next action is for that patient. Therefore another doctor would be unable to see the patient because each doctor would have a different management plan for their patients. Your son can request a copy of the scan to enable him to start his private physio sessions he does not need to see a doctor to start private treatment. I hope that this explains and once again offer our apologies that your appointments have been rescheduled.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a positive review and I am pleased to hear that you are happy with the care that you have received from the staff in the practice. The staff all work really hard to provide the best care possible under difficult circumstances whilst receiving abuse from some patients almost on a daily basis. It is much appreciated that you have taken the time to leave a positive review which will boost the moral of the staff greatly. Dawn Practice Manager

  4. Review titled health care at Weaver vale practice. What's happened?

Rated 1 star out of 5

After contracting covid pneumonia in april2022 and the diagnosed long covid problems I am having I have had to attend this practice for the 1st time in 2 years. I am appalled at the long wait for appointments, no continuity of care from GPs, "jobs worth" receptionists, rushed 10min GP consultations dealing with 1 problem only, delay in notifying you of test results, being passed from one locum GP to another who you have had no therapeutic relationship with etc etc. This is not the Weaver vale practice that I have known in the past 40 years I have been with them. I am shocked to feel that they are doing you a favor in seeing you and they are too tired and overwhelmed to care. What a shame for a once very good practice

I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the service that you have received from the practice. Unforunately we have a high demand on appointments and they become fully booked as soon as they are released. If not already done so you can register for on-line access where you can book appointments on-line. This will allow you to check appointments on-line instead of having to wait in a phone queue. If you prefer to see one doctor you can book an appointment with the doctor of your choice, however this may delay your access to helath care if for example they are part time, on annual leave or fully booked.

  5. Review titled Patients at risk! No support for Mental Health

Rated 1 star out of 5

A few weeks ago, I received a letter from the practice regarding the appointment I attended yesterday for my son's 6–8-week check. I called the practice to ask would his immunisations be included in this check and was told it would be. When I attended the practice yesterday Dr informed me that the immunisations are only on a Wednesday and advised me to check with the receptionist and to get them booked in urgently as my son is currently 6 weeks and 3 days and he must have these at 8 weeks. I went to the reception and asked about these and the receptionist, very rudely, informed me that there was no appointment under my son's name for his immunisations. I explained that the Dr had said I need to book them in as he needs them before he is 8 weeks and explained the situation about being misadvised. She then looked on the system and informed me that there were "no future appointments". She looked further on and informed me that there were no appointments for the next 4 weeks and that was as far as she could see on the system. The receptionist behind her stated that "it would be ok as the immunisations are often given late". The receptionist I was dealing with then stated very bluntly "as you would have been told on the phone, we will write to you" I reminded her I wasn't told this and I was told the immunisations would be given today, to which she replied "we will write to you" then called the next person before I had moved away from the reception desk. As a first-time young mother, I found my experience at the practice disgusting. I was spoken down to and like a child. During my pregnancy I faced problems as I was told I couldn't have my whooping cough vaccine as they were not doing them because of covid to only then received the vaccine at 16 weeks (just in time) only because my midwife called the practice herself and told them they can and will give me the vaccine. Then, there has been no aftercare at all for either myself or my son. Not only has it taken 5 weeks for him to weighed again since his 5-day check but now there are no future appointments for my son to get his immunisations. As you will be aware, for the rotavirus vaccine to be effective the second dose must be given before he is 15 weeks, with 4 weeks in between each vaccine. If this vaccine is given to my son in 5 weeks time, as advised there are "no appointments earlier" he will be closer to 12 weeks which in turn results in him not receiving the second dose in time. This has caused me extreme anxiety as I feel I cannot leave the house with my son as he is at risk. My mental health is by far at the lowest it has been, and this is something I made the staff at the practice aware of yet there is no support.

I am sorry to learn that your experience at the practice was not what you expected and I would like to apologise for any upset you have been caused. A babies first vaccinations are scheduled by Child Health Information Services (CHIS) and not by the practice, any subsequent vaccinations are then planned by the practice. If you have not received a letter from CHIS in relation to your babies first immunisation please contact the practice and ask for Carole who will look into this further for you. The pertussis (Whooping cough) vaccination is given to expectant mums between weeks 16 and 32. It can be delivered up to week 38 but becomes less effective after week 32. You received your vaccination at the beginning of the timeframe for delivery. More information can be found https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/resources-to-support-whooping-cough-vaccination/whooping-cough-vaccination-in-pregnancy-guide I hope that this explains. Thank you for your comments and I am sorry to learn that your experience today was not what you would expect from the practice. Unfortunately I am unable to respond to personal experiences on this forum due to confidentiality but if you would like me to listen to the call to identify if there is any learning for the receptionist that you spoke to please email the practice with details. I hope that in future the service you receive will be of the high standard we expect of our receptionists.
