  2. Review titled Lacking basic medical skills and a personal touch

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After two months and six visits, including a laboratory test, I am still awaiting a diagnosis for my symptoms as the staff seem incapable of demonstrating the first principles of medicine. Some staff, I have heard, are professional but not the ones I visited. They can only be part timers, like supply teachers, there to make up the numbers but not do anything of substance. The last doctor actually referred me to an ANP as she was not prepared to commitment herself or take the time to carry out a proper consultation! The administrative staff seem to have lost interest in the job having little time for patients, and the covid screen ensures there is no personal contact with the great unwashed. The staff go through the motions of work, like in a corporate bureaucracy, and the eConsult system allows them to hide behind a electronic wall as any personal contact is removed. After filling in eConsult forms with photos the doctors do not even bother to read them before a consultation, making it just an exercise in bureaucratic form filling where eConsult is triage by an AI algorithm. I can envisage within five years AI drones will replace all the staff at this surgery and I wager no one will even notice.

  3. Review titled Prompt and efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I received a face to face GP consultation three days after completing an e-consultation. I underwent blood tests and an X-ray the following working day. The results were available after a week and I received a telephone consultation four working days later. All for a persistent but non-critical condition. Everything was very timely and reassuring. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Thankful to be with this practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

In the last couple of years I seem to have needed to make contact with the surgery many, many times and have always been treated efficiently, respectfully, warmly and professionally by all members of staff. I feel extremely fortunate to be with this practice especially when I hear others complaining about their experiences.

  5. Review titled Great for physical issues , not so much for mental health

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I’ve had great help and advice regarding physical ailments. But in my most recent experience of using reconsult to flag up major mental health issues these were ignored & only the physical side of the difficulty addressed. I’ve only mentioned my mental health twice before and on both those occasions as well it was ignored. It’s hard enough to raise this as an issue in the first place, I’d really like the doctors to be more alert to asking about this side of things. The surgery is otherwise fantastic .

  6. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have always had an exceptional service with Sea Mills Surgery. I rang today about my son and he was seen within a few hours. I have found the reception and GP team to be extremely caring, kind and helpful. Thank you for all of your care during a particularly pressurised time for the NHS.

  7. Review titled Always a problem

Rated 1 star out of 5

I was invited to a servical screening so I went to book an appointment. I was told " We can't book you one as we don't know the nurse's schedule. Come back in a couple of weeks " I came back after 3 weeks and was told " Sorry, we still don't have it " I find that very unlikely. I am very upset about the treatment I have received there.

  8. Review titled Rude receptionist

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Patient here since 1966 - Posted on 21 February 2023

This morning I had a telephone appointment with a pharmacist (due to my original appointment with my doctor last week being cancelled because a receptionist booked me into March instead of February). I waited by the phone all morning and when I hadn't heard by 12.30 rang the surgery. I was kept hanging on for 22 minutes being told I was first in the queue. When I did get a reply I informed the receptionist politely of the waiting time as I feel they should be aware in the interests of efficiency and was told they were very busy. I then asked about my appointment and was told she would see that it happened soon. I tried to explain that I had a dental appointment later but she persistently talked over me in a very rude way not allowing me to finish what I was saying. When I asked if I would get the call before my appointment she replied 'probably'. I said 'probably?' and she asked what time the appointment was. I replied 2.30. She then said she would convey this to the pharmacist and ask her to ring me. It's now 2pm and I have heard nothing. As someone who had an extremely stressful career myself (teaching children with learning difficulties and behavioural problems) I fully understand the pressures of a receptionist's job but her attitude and rudeness in not allowing me to speak without interruption, or finish my business (I had intended to ask for blood test results) was inexcusable for someone in her position. The call is to sort out important drug information following a stay in hospital last month and prior to me having an endoscopy next week and was requested by the hospital. I await your comments.

  9. Review titled Unhelpful

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Receptionists are quite short and rude. And a doctor call back is a joke. I have been given a call back from a doctor (15min talk over the phone) after what I have been told that they need to see me but the doctor I was speaking to is going home so I will get another call back. I have been seen by paramedic with severe allergy reaction (email was sent to the gp) and my conditions were getting worse but in the emial it did not include a word urgent therefore as I have been told by the receptionist if I feel is that bad just go to a&e and don’t bother calling them. I will definitely change to a different GP. Plus noticed few times my kids conditions and doctor call backs were not noted on a system.
