  1. Review titled Made to leave, no discussion after giving new address.

We moved in 2011, The primary gp in charge knew our new address and was fine about it. Time goes on and we were forced to notify the practice of our 'new' address less than two weeks ago. Again, the lead gp said he would 'support us' in our application to stay ... Absolute rubbish in the event! We receive a very impartial, non-personal letter from the print out on their computer to say we now had to find a new gp practice. Ok, we expected that in many ways but what happened next we did not expect. My husband (of over 30 years) has been very ill with fatigue, cough, lack of appetite for months. Work, and not our home address prevents him from calling first thing in the morning / waiting for a call back and then possibly being able to see a gp before 6pm as he works in Bristol. Anyway, he managed to get an appt with dr C a couple of weeks ago. She told him he would be having a CT within 2 weeks and to go tomorrow (16/2/2023) for a Spiromitrey (sp) test at 9.20am. I phoned wgh this morning to enquire about the ct scan, only to be told he hadn't been referred as he had been told and it will now been at least 4 -6 weeks!! He may have cancer, they don't know and neither do we! He was also told (when he phoned the Milton Road practice today) that 'yes' they have a 30 day duty of care and yet, because we have a very recent new address, his appt tomorrow has been cancelled!! Well, the 'old days' of being a wonderful practice have now clearly gone, you cannot even stick to your Duty of Care ... appalling : ( In all the years have been patients we would have given you 5 stars but our experience now, on being told to leave, without you even honouring your duty of care ... has to be reduced to a minus one, sadly.

Dear anonymous, Thank you for feeding back your frustration with our out of area policy. Unfortunately when patients move out of area we do not have the capacity to keep providing healthcare for patients living outside of our boundary, as we aim to provide timely, person-centred care in what are very challenging circumstances in general practice nationally, with recruitment, workforce and workload issues that are well documented. We apply the boundary policy to everyone, as it would be unethical to show discrimination to any person, as per GMC guidance. Apologies if you were under the impression that an application to stay as a registered patient would be considered, we are unable to do this, except for palliative care patients at the very end of life. As you have also moved county, this creates additional issues over referrals which have different pathways and funding systems compared to North Somerset. I have identified your husband from the information provided, and suggest he calls the practice as I can see that the spirometry appointment has been rearranged rather than cancelled - once patients are sent an out of area letter the appointment system automatically cancels future appointments, but our receptionist has helpfully rebooked it for him. The CT chest request sent on the date of the appointment with Dr C is subject to the pressures in secondary care which affect waiting times, and GPs have no influence on WGH waiting times for investigations. The guidance for removing patients who have moved out of area, is that we have a duty of care to provide emergency treatment, or current treatment that is requiring appointments once a week or more, for up to 30 days until taken on by a new practice. In your situation we have fulfilled contractual obligations, and gone beyond this by booking a routine practice investigation. I am sorry to read that you feel otherwise. When registering at your new practice, the current notes will usually transfer electronically, so that your new GP is aware of any recent consultations, as well as past medical history. With best wishes Dr Penny Edrich

  2. Review titled Outstanding Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a small health problem about which I was concerned. At 7.45 I contacted the surgery via Ask My GP. At 7.50 I received a telephone call asking if I could get to the surgery at 9.00. I did so and saw a kind and sympathetic doctor who examined me and allayed my fears. This is just one example of the excellent service I have received over the past few years since joining the practice. We are fortunate to have such a well-run and caring surgery in Milton. Not all NHS practices are as good.
