The wait to speak to someone by calling is unbelievable. Was caller number 4 when first called , then after 34 minutes wait and finally being 1st in the queue I waited another 40 minutes until i finally gave up. Appointment waiting times are ridiculous too! Furthermore they don't seem to have any communication skills whatsoever - as every single person in reception will tell you completely different thing.

My husband and I have visited this surgery quite a lot in the last year and the reception staff and the gps have always treated with utmost respect and have always been extremely helpful. Well done Wood Lane.

  4. Review titled Wood Lane Medical Centre - A GP Practice that stands out!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Nigel J D'Souza - Posted on 07 October 2023

My experiences over the years with Wood Lane Medical Centre, Hornchurch have been very positive and satisfying. My recent experiences during the month of September too have just mirrored this and been extremely reassuring. At a time when one keeps hearing about how long it takes to get an appointment at a GP Practice and the attitude of staff, level of service, etc., I can say with the utmost confidence that it is such a different story at Wood Lane Medical Centre. Right from the Care Navigators, to the Practice Nurses, to the Doctors, the support for all their patients, is just tremendous - on a consistent basis. During the month of September for example, faced with very concerning health issues (my daughter and I) they managed to fit us into their jammed schedule, giving us immediate urgent appointments. Not only that, the staff were very engaging, patient, compassionate and supportive. They even followed up with web links for additional support. During our appointments with the GPs, they genuinely listened and spent time trying to understand our medical problems to decide how best to support us (which they did), instead of trying to rush us out. This is why Wood Lane Medical just stands out!!! My family and I are very grateful to the entire team at Wood Lane Medical Centre for being there for us over the years and recently too.....and are confident that they will continue to do so, not just for us, but for all their other patients as well. A very professionally run and highly recommended GP Practice!!!

The doctors, nurses and staff at Wood Lane surgery are really professional and caring. As the front line for patients the receptionists are efficient and always helpful in making sure you get the appointments you need.

  6. Review titled Really helpful receptionist

The 2 ladies on the front desk were very kind and helpful. I was struggling to book my appointment online so I went into the practice and they had a wonderful attitude and helped me convey my symptoms and find the best appointment days for me.

  7. Review titled Impossible to book an appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After receiving quite a few reminders to book an appointment with the nurse, I am today trying to do so. I always wait until I have annual leave to try to book an appointment because it takes so long and I really can't afford to put that time aside in my working day. I'm currently in their call queue at no. 2 and I've been here for 57 minutes. I started at no. 5. This must mean that to book an appointment, it takes as long as two GP appointments of 10 mins? Do you not have any agreed service level agreements? Is this really the way you wish to treat your patients? Would it make sense to have an online booking system maybe?

  8. Review titled On hold for 2 hours and waiting...

Rated 1 star out of 5

Currently been sat on hold since 11:22am and it's now 13:15pm. It's always a nightmare to actually speak to anyone and when you do the receptionists are usually very condescending and rude. It's a shame. Been with this GP for nearly 40 years and it has always been good up until the last few years.

We offer a patient led choice of appointments. Our patients are free to choose face to face, telephone or online consultations. Online consultations are accessed via our website or the nhs app. Telephone consultations can be booked online or via our care-navigation team. Face to face consultations can be booked via our care-navigation team who are there to make sure you consult with the correct professional to meet your needs. Currently about 25% of our consultations are face to face, 20% are online and 65% are telephone. We are currently providing an average of 903 consultations per week, 94 consultations per week for every 1000 patients registered at the practice and 11,614 consultations in the past 90 days. Our numbers of consultations have steadily increased over the past year. Despite this we remain under unprecedented pressure from demand for consultations. Demand has risen greatly over the past 6 months. There are many reasons for this including backlogs from the pandemic, pandemic related lack of capacity in hospital and community services, pandemic related escalations in mental health problems and health anxiety. We have just recruited extra clinical sessions. We are doing our very best to deal with this great demand but as you have noticed, despite increasing and providing so many consultations the demand is still yet greater. Other practices locally and nationally report similar experiences. Our whole team continues to work as hard as they can whilst exploring innovative ways of meeting more demand. Most results come back to use by 10 – 14 days. Results (of tests organised by the practice team but not by hospitals etc) can be accessed via the NHS App or via our results line. Of course, we contact our patients whose results need actions to be taken. We are very sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. Please see further detail on how to access our appointments and our appointments data below: https://www.woodlanemedicalcentre.co.uk/2021/10/13/we-provide-nearly-47000-consults-per-year/ The WLMC Team

  9. Review titled Horrible Practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jibran Ahmed - Posted on 17 May 2022

Before Covid, Wood Lane Medical Centre had appointments available and would see face to face but after covid and uptil now (May 2022), no appointments available in next 4 weeks. Phone waiting time is around 45 minutes. And if you’re lucky enough to get an appointment, it’s phone consultation. All other GPs including I know personally in family are going to practice and seeing patients in person but this practice is only doing phone consultation uptil now. My wife had stool sample given in, it’s been 3 weeks and we are waiting for results. This used to be a good practice but not anymore. I have already got forms for another practice and will be switching soon. Don’t waste time registering or using them now. Happy to provide proofs if it’s required for approval of this review. Thanks
