  1. Review titled Could there be a worse experience?

Where do I start, disgraceful “service”. Now told a call back from a doctor is over 4 weeks !!. That’s not to actually see a doctor, just a telephone call. A request for medication, which I urgently needed still awaiting a signature four days later. There seems to be a total disregard for treating people in a professional & timely manner. My whole experience with dealing with NHS services is not fit for purpose. What is happening that this once great service has declined so far ??

Dear Geoff, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you feel you have not received the care you expected, I can understand the frustration in your review. We offer same day urgent appointments at both our site and local hubs, and our receptionists are trained to care navigate patients to the most appropriate service to meet their needs. Routine appointments are available within a longer timescale. I appreciate this frustration and it is something we are working on. All urgent prescription requests made via our urgent process are dealt with the same day, and 48 hours for routine requests. Sometimes there are reasons identified that may mean this is not possible and without knowing the specifics of your review it is very difficult to address the exact cause of your delay. I would like to reiterate that we have patient care and wellbeing at the forefront of our vision of providing high quality healthcare, and apologise if you feel we fell short in this instance. I am happy to discuss your review with you directly, if you want to contact me at the practice on 01709828806. Thank you Spencer Oates Practice Manager

  2. Review titled Appalling practice

I have been treated over the last year for thyroid problems which are not yet resolved. I was taken off all medication last November and asked to have a repeat blood test in 3 months. I had the tests yesterday and the have checked my results on NHS app and was advised to contact my GP due to abnormal results. On calling the surgery I was offered a routine phone appointment on 31/3/2023 which is 4 weeks away. How does the receptionist know that my condition is routine??Bearing in mind that the surgery have not contacted me over the results, I have contacted them. I also have a chronic skin condition and have recently had a flare up and required medication. I was informed that I have to see a doctor before the medication can be prescribed, yet again another 4 weeks. I do not have the time to ring at 8.00am or 1.00pm for an 'emergency' appointment as I work full time and my problems are not emergencies, 4 weeks for a routine phone appointment is absolutely ridiculous and the treatment is required now, I have therefore purchased it from an online pharmacy who offered me a consultation within an hour. The way that patients are treated at this surgery is shambolic to say the least.

Dear patient, thank you for your feedback. I understand from your comment that you are not happy with having to wait 4 weeks for a routine appointment. I appreciate that this can be frustrating and please be assured that should the GP have felt that you needed to be seen sooner they would have contacted you and organised this themselves. We are always striving to provide high quality patient care including improved access. There are GP/ANP and HCA services available at a local hub which our reception team are able to book into. These are very often within a few days. It is very difficult to comment on the specifics of this individual case as you have posted anonymously. If you would like to discuss this in more depth please do not hesitate to contact the surgery on 01709828806 and I would be more than willing to assist you. Thank you again for your feedback. Appointment running over 60 minutes minutes late. I had a 5 week old baby with me if they have called and let me know they were running late it could have caused a lot less stress. The response I got was ‘she does run late’ Impossible to get an appointment in the first place to see someone. Always attempt to diagnose over the phone which is disgusting when you need to see someone. The call backs are never from an actual doctor.

Dear patient, Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your recent experience. Unfortunately our clinicians can run late whilst they deal with urgent or sometimes emergency situations arising during their consultations. e.g. A patient may need urgent care whilst awaiting an ambulance. I understand that this can be frustrating for those patients that are waiting to be seen/consulted, however we need to provide the best possible care for each and every patient at their point of contact. We currently have routine appts within 2 weeks, and offer same day urgent appts every day, both of which are available as either face-to-face or telephone, at the request of the patient. We are working on improving the waiting time to receive an appointment and hope to notice an improvement soon. Some members of the clinical team employed by the surgery may not be GPs however they are highly skilled and competent clinicians with many years of experience in providing medical care. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. Kind regards Spencer Oates, Practice Manager

I have been trying to get an appointment for my partner and have yet to actually get through to the practice. This is completely unacceptable as we have the same performance every single time and when we finally get through to a receptionist they tell us that they can’t do anything and to call back at 8am or 1pm the next day for an on the day appointment. This is not fair as booking an appointment in advance is usually 2 weeks away and most problems have resolved themselves by then or it just gets to the point where we can’t be bothered with the hassle and just suffer in silence. This is supposed to be a primary health care facility but in reality I would have better luck selling my soul than getting an appointment. I am one more bad experience away from switching to another GP provider even if that would mean getting taxis to and from the surgery because it’s not in walking distance.

Dear Beth, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear of your experience when trying to contact the surgery. After implementation of our new telephone system we now have a queuing system for our patients, who are given the opportunity to place themselves in a callback queue, which will maintain your place in the queue and inform our reception team to ring you when you get to the front of the queue. Without further information it is difficult to say exactly what happened when you have tried to contact us previously. If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to investigate further. Kind regards Spencer Oates, Practice Manager
