  1. Review titled Can't fault them on my very recent visit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barry Smithson - Posted on 05 November 2023

I am suffering with a chest infection, very chesty and really struggling with sleep & lying down. Within an hour of talking to reception, I had spoken to a GP and was in her surgery room being examined, you can't get better than that! I don't think I have ever received better medical attention anywhere, to be honest...

  2. Review titled Awful service

Rated 1 star out of 5

I called to see if I could register at this GP. It says on this NHS website that they take on patients outside of their catchment area and I was unsure whether I would be classed as outside or within the catchment area so I called to check. (Due to affects on hospital referrals if I were to be taken on as a patients outside the catchment) A receptionist picked up the phone and I asked my questions and she asked where I live, I gave her my post code and she said “I don’t know post codes, where do you live” pretty rudely and cutting me off. I said the meadows and before I could finish speaking, she said they don’t take patients from the meadows. I told her that the NHS website says they take people from outside their catchment area and she said it’s not up to the “online people” it’s up to her. I told her they should update the NHS website then.. I live very close to this practice, and I am surprised I would not be in the catchment area. I believe as the meadows is a rougher area than west bridgeford she may have been taking her own liberty here but I don’t know because she didn’t tell me the catchment area! It says all calls are recorded - if you work at the practice and are reading this I’d recommend listening to the call I made 30 June 2023 at 16:04. I think your receptionist needs some upskilling on social abilities. If I’m not in the catchment - fine, but your receptionist shouldn’t speak down to people. Stay away from attempting to join this GP!

Can always get an emergency appointment if required, by ringing in at the correct time. The doctors are really nice, as are the reception team. I rate this practice highly. Would definitely recommend.

  4. Review titled Booking system not currently fit for purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

Booking system not currently fit for purpose. (They do admit they are having problems). You can't book in advance. You must call at either 8am or 12pm for appointments within a few hours notice. Try calling at the advised time - sorry phone lines are too busy, try later. 12 calls later, enter queue. 25 minutes later, call answered. Sorry, only emergency appointments left, please try again tomorrow... Maybe it works OK if you're retired?

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the service you received. We are always grateful for patient feedback and appreciate the time you have taken to provide this. We are looking into ways of improving the booking system. We have changed our way of working to offer more appointments both face to face and telephone. We have recruited another salaried GP and we are currently in the process of recruiting 2 more receptionists.

  5. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Today’s service was remarkable. I rang at 8, got through to a friendly receptionist in less than ten minutes, had a phone appointment with a helpful GP the same morning and could start the tablets I needed by lunchtime. Couldn’t ask for more than that.

  6. Review titled Appointment process is inefficient

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 August 2022

Access to appointments is by phone call at 8am or 12pm for each day. Advanced bookings within a two week period are also possible. Ringing at 8 or 12 puts you into a queue system. Today I was position 6 and there were 2 appointment times left for that day. There are typically 4 or 5 doctors at any one time, so each has about 4 bookable 10 minute appointments each day. If the appointment time is not suitable (existing appointments, work etc) it is necessary to ring back at 8 or 12 or book an advanced appointment. If that date is not suitable it is necessary to ring back the next day and try again. This means that the vast majority of appointments are being made in advance leaving only very limited provision for urgent appointments on the day. So, who does this benefit? Not the reception staff who everyone is warned in a recorded message not to be rude to when you cannot get an appointment. Many of them sound defensive and stressed which can seem rude and aggressive at times. Neither do the patients benefit who have to negotiate the system and rely on pot luck. It is incredibly frustrating at times and it’s no wonder that patients are sometimes rude to receptionists. Also, the whole process is very inefficient and clinically ineffective as there is no process to determine access based on immediate clinical need. Ringing multiple times through the week to finally get an appointment assumes that there is no real clinical need in the first place. Should we assume that doctors believe that much of what they see is actually a complete waste of their time? Therefore, rationing of access makes no difference to the patient? So, who benefits? Doctors must feel under siege to put up such barriers to access. The system does not work and needs to be changed.

I called the practice this afternoon at 4pm, received a call back at 4.15 from a GP and picked up the required medication from my local pharmacy at 4.45. Excellent service all round from receptionist to GP and Pharmacy. Thank you
