  1. Review titled Elderly people queueing outside

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I arrived for my flu jab at 8.55 for a 9.07 appointment. Approx 20 people waiting outside locked doors. Surely elderly people (who always arrive early for any appointment) should have somewhere to sit and stay warm whilst they wait. It would only need either opening the doors earlier or starting the appointments later - I think it used to be called ‘caring for people’.

I apologise that this happened at the last flu clinic. Due to issues out of our control we were unable to open early as we normally do and did at the previous clinic. We hope this will not be the case going forward, as we are normally open 5 minutes before clinics start but we appreciate your feedback and hope you understand circumstances were out of our control. Many thanks. Newsome Surgery.

  2. Review titled Poor procedures/practices

Tried to book an appointment today for an autism referral for a child. 4 week wait just for a for an appointment to discuss the matter. Not happy with that due to length of waiting list after and also how long we've struggled for beforehand. Some routine appointments are more urgent Also, you didn't check or were bothered if we could wait 4 weeks for a referral. Also couldn't book a nurse appointment for my husband last week. He works full time bit your nurse appointments don't accommodate full time workers. I couldn't book him in for an on the day appointment. Was told he needs to pre book and book holiday from work. Inaccessible healthcare.

Many thanks for your feedback and I am sorry you are unhappy. Routine appointments unfortunately do have a 4-6 week wait but be rest assured if you had an urgent need we do have same day appointments and a on call clinician who triages requests once the appointments have gone. For people who work we do have 2 options for your husband and I apologize these were not offered and will remind staff at the next meeting to ensure these are offered. We first have nurse appointments available on a Wednesday evening between 6.30pm and 8pm. For GP appointment we also have access to a system called remote booking where you can be booked in with another local surgery who provide appointments for patients who work and find it difficult to attend during the week on a Saturday and I hope this information is of help going forward. 3. Review titled Failing Business

Rated 1 star out of 5

Not the place to go if you are ill. Semi derelict waiting room with broken door lock. No receptionist, note saying call tomorrow if you wish to see a receptionist. Staff don't smile anymore. Practice nurse, who has worked there a long time, was first rate and a pleasure to see.

Many thanks for your comments which have been taken on board. Building works have in fact just recently started so changes are coming as financing allows. Newsome Surgery

  4. Review titled Never any appointments to see the gp

Rated 1 star out of 5

I've been trying to get a blood test for over a year as I think I have low iron. The receptionist made me and appointment for a blood test but it turned out it was to see the gp. He agreed and said I needed the blood test. The receptionist however said there was no appointments and I should ring at 8.30am every morning to arrange one and I need to fast for 12 hours before hand for the blood test. I am a working woman who has started work by 8.30am I can't spend time starving myself and phoning. So no blood test. I then got some sort of infection in my leg and I tried to get an appointment but was told there was none to see the gp. I had to self diagnosed it to be cellulitis and it was getting worse. Finally, after calling 63 times, the receptionist got a nurse to call me back and I got a prescription. A week later I still had the infection and again no appointments so had to get a repeat prescription. 3 weeks after the second antibiotics I still can't walk properly and I'm in pain with swelling. I am still trying to get an appointment to actually see someone which is proving difficult with having to work also. The receptionist staff are very unhelpful and the whole system is not fit for purpose.

Many thanks for you feedback and I am sorry to hear you have had a negative experience. I will remind staff to be clear to explain when booking appointments who it is with. It was correct to be in with a GP as they have to assess the clinical need for the test before the sample can be taken. If you had been booked straight in with a nurse they wouldn't have been able to take the sample so apologies this was not clear. We always try to make appointments available for patients with urgent need like yourself so please do call back and explain an urgent issue. You will either be booked a same day appointment if available or this will be tasked through to the On Call GP if all the appointments have gone for assessment and triaged. We also have access to remote booking appointments on a Saturday which may be of use for you and please do ask about this when next calls us. I will also feedback to reception in regards to the fasting blood test in case this is a training need with a new member of staff as these should be pre-booked and we can usually get patients an appointment for a routine blood test within 4 weeks. Thank you again for your feedback. Mrs Burton, Practice Manager
