    My father is receiving palliative care at home. He recently developed an infection. The care and support that we have received from the doctors and the District Nurses has been exceptional. We as a family cannot thank the practice enough for all their attention.

    It takes at least a month, often closer to six weeks, to get an appointment, whether with a doctor, nurse or HCA. Even the message given when phoning in seems to be saying 'go elsewhere, we cannot help you' by giving details of urgent care centres in Newcastle.

    I recently returned to the area and registered with the practice. I booked an appointment with a GP. My problem is more mental than physical. The GP listened carefully and prompted me so that I could express my concerns fully. We discussed medication and I have a medication that suits my needs. I was referred to a mental health practitioner who phoned me within an hour. I had an appointment with her a few days later. I was again given time to tell my story and to explore non-pharmaceutical approaches. I have been referred to two other sources of help. In a few days I will have a telephone assessment. I am aware that I may have to wait for further support. This is because of high demand and not because of deficiencies in general practice. I have been treated with care and compassion. I have been listened to and nd given the time I needed to access the services I need. Every member of staff in the practice has treated me with dignity and respect. I am very grateful to all of you.

    Having been a patient here on and off for 40 years I have to say it’s really gone downhill, even more so since closing the Stamfordham surgery. You wait weeks to get an appointment and even then it’s not always face to face. You wait even longer to get an appointment with a specific GP and I have to see a specific GP because he has always dealt with my complicated medical history. It seems everyone wants to see this GP though. Very telling! The turnover of GP’s is astronomical! I feel for the GP’s that have been there a long time - not many of them left! They’re totally overwhelmed, especially as there’s an awful lot of staff off sick at the moment as the recorded telephone message has been telling me for a couple of months now. The practice has taken on too many patients and doesn’t have the capacity to cope it would seem. Takes forever for them to dispense prescriptions from the time of ordering as it is now 72 hours! Not good for those of us that live rurally. I know all GP’s are struggling, but there’s something clearly wrong with the management of this practice.
