  1. Review titled Couldn't realistically ask for more

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Metcalfe - Posted on 13 July 2023

I've had a number of medical issues over the years (some of the serious) and cannot praise the practiced enough. I might not get my nominated doctor at short notice but I will always get to see a relevant medical professional or doctor quickly if my circumstances need a quick assessment. The reception staff have always been polite and most helpful when assessing my requests for appointments or other queries. There are of course some post Covid difficulties which make it impossible to maintain pre Covid standards but in my experience I still receive a high standard of care. Thank you to all staff both medical and non medical for your hard work.

  2. Review titled Excellent surgery and caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I cannot praise the staff at this surgery enough following a very difficult year of poor physical health. Following a surgical proceedure the nurses saw me every day for a month, including weekends, for wound dressings. Their long term conditions nurse helped me get referrals into other community services to improve my quality of life. Their reception team always helpful despite the pressure and demand the surgery has faced. I want to particularly extend my praise to my own GP at this practice, I honestly would not have been able to navigate the many waiting lists and life changes over this last year if he hadn't of been there to support me. He always puts the patient first and is realistic and honest with his care planning. I feel so much more hopeful and positive about my future health needs knowing I have the support of my GP surgery. Thank you so much

Dear CA Thank you so much for your lovely positive comments. It makes such a difference to the practice to get such a lovely pat on the back particularly after the last 3 years of firefighting. Your comments will be shared with all the staff at the surgery. I am delighted to hear that we have helped you so much. That is why we all do the job that we do, but it is particularly wonderful to be told. Jane Dalgleish Practice Manager

Dear Patient I am sorry you feel you are having issues with the phone system. I have reported as widely as possible the difficulties all practices are currently suffering with demand following the pandemic. Sadly many people feel that their lives are 'back to normal' but this is not the case with the NHS who are still dealing with the aftermath of COVID restrictions. I can absolutely assure you that we are doing everything within our power to address the issues with the phone lines but our options are limited due to the need for patients to be triaged prior to a face to face appointment. This increases the length of the calls. We cannot allow online booking of face to face appointments for the same reason - we cannot allow patients who have symptoms or who are COVID positive to book face to face appointments. Equally with the hospital waiting times increased, this is putting extra pressure on practices dealing with patients' symptoms until they receive a hospital appointment. 3 weeks ago we had 5 staff off with COVID so that put extra burden on the system. I can absolutely reassure you that the phone was not disconnected at our end. The staff are answering calls back to back, all day everyday. If you want to submit your name via our website I can investigate the issue you had with your prescription and also investigate to see why your phone kept disconnecting. Please remain patient with us, we are still fire fighting and working harder than ever. We are doing everything we can. Jane Dalgleish Practice Manager

Dear Ms Brown, This is still a great practice! It is a great practice dealing with the aftermath of COVID. We are unable to open up online booking of face to face appointments currently, so this inevitably puts extra pressure on the phones. We have however opened up more telephone appointments online. It is a well-known fact that GP practices across the country are still reeling from the pandemic. We still have staff off with COVID and this is putting even further pressure on a system that is already bending under the strain. We are aware of the issue with the telephones and have addressed this as far as we are able at the moment. If you require blood test results you can always sign up for the NHS App or the Surgery App and get your results that way. That will save you waiting in a queue on the phone. I have to advise that the Receptionists do answer the phone. They are answering the phones all day every day, it is sheer volume of calls that is causing the problem. This has increased exponentially since the pandemic began. I can reassure you that things will slowly start to improve but sadly until that time, you will need to accept that the wait on the phones is going to be longer than any of us would like. 5. Review titled Always responsive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carol Beighton - Posted on 06 August 2022

There is a wait to be answered on phone but if you wait and it soon comes down. I have used the online consultancy service and had a prompt reply. I have left messages for GPS and have been phoned back or got message from receptionist. The receptionists themselves are brilliant. They have been so helpful with my mum and dad when they were ill. What I will say is you do not always get the answer you want but you will be offered alternatives/advice. Also the patient needs to be clear about what they need. The practice staff do their very best under difficult circumstances, like everything else in life, if you are reasonable with them you will have a much better experience. We are very lucky in this country to have access to these health services. In many places in the world, you would not even have access to a witchdoctor! Count your blessings.

Dear Ms Beighton Thank you so much for your kind comments. It is very reassuring that there is an understanding of how difficult things are in general practice at the moment. I am very proud of the Reception team and they always do their best to help patients. I am also pleased you found the eConsultations helpful. They are not for everybody nor every condition but do help to reduce wait on the phones. We continue to work extra hard with the intention of providing the best service we can for patients whilst still dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic. Thank you again.
