Length of stay in days for carotid endarterectomy

What this data shows:

Gives an indication to patients of how long they are likely to be in hospital if they have a carotid endarterectomy.

How the data is gathered:

This indicator is only shown at trust level and for the most recent year (01/01/2016 – 31/12/2016) for two reasons:

    1. Reporting by NHS trust more accurately reflects the practice within a hospital as it is recommended that patients are referred to the next available operating list rather than an individual surgeon.
    2. There has been a considerable reduction in the median delay from symptom to carotid endarterectomy since 2010 and using older data could give a misleading impression of times between symptom and surgery.
