Feeding your baby

Whether you decide to breastfeed or formula feed (or a bit of both), we have advice and tips to support you.

It can take time to feel confident about feeding your baby, but there is lots of help available.

Breastfeeding your baby

If you're breastfeeding, try to let your baby feed as much as they want to. This could be every hour, day and night.

As your baby grows, they'll settle into a pattern and feed for longer and less often.

Have a look at our breastfeeding guide for advice and tips on how to breastfeed, good attachment, burping your baby, and coping with common breastfeeding issues like reflux, colic and sore nipples.

National Breastfeeding Helpline

If you have any questions about breastfeeding, the National Breastfeeding Helpline offers confidential information and support.

Call 0300 100 0212 (9.30am to 9.30pm every day).

Bottle feeding your baby

You may decide to bottle feed your baby with expressed breast milk or infant formula (or a combination of both).

Have a look at our bottle feeding guide for practical information on the things you'll need to buy, sterilising the bottles, how to make up formula feeds, burping your baby and lots more.

NCT infant feeding line

If you need any information, support, or just someone to talk to, the NCT infant feeding line on 0333 270 1704 (option 1) is available every day from 8am until midnight.

Chat to one of their trained breastfeeding counsellors for advice, whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding your baby.
