Asked to book appointment with doctors from hospital admission. 2 week wait for appointment. Asked by doctor reason visit. Explained situation,while she appeared to be typing up other patients notes. No eye contact until she had finished her work, at which point she looked directly at me with a smile and said " what exactly do you want me to do for you, forget all that you have told me has being going on ,we have 5 minutes ". I almost broke into tears on top of feeling extremely unwell. She then decided I needed a test, which i have no idea what for and said she would get a referral. I have not attended the doctors in years, I attended because I feel desperately unwell and was made to feel I had wasted their time.

I witnessed a Reception Staff team member dealing with a difficult situation, a patient could not speak hardly any English, she was kind, considerate and extremely patient and handled and sorted out the issue admirably.

Cervical screening tests are far from fun, but my experience at Ireland Wood was as good as it could get. The nurse made me feel comfortable, a smaller speculum was already ready as requested, it was over in seconds, I didn't really experience any pain and it was overall a more pleasant experience than my previous screening (which was also a lot better than I had feared). These tests are super important so I'd recommend everyone to go when you receive an invite; it'll likely be a lot less bad than you think. It is stressed that they will do nothing you're not comfortable with and they will make sure you're okay throughout the process.

Fantastic practice - the reception team were great and handled the call quickly with professionalism. They were able to fit me in with an emergency gp appointment for my child (under 2) within 20mins of calling. Nurses and gp doctors are warm, friendly and understanding. Very impressed with the level of service they provide! Keep up the good work

Where do I start? You cannot get a routine appointment with a GP for at least 3 to 4 weeks. If you ring for an urgent on the day, even if you ring as soon as the phones open you can find yourself in the 20-30s in the queue so absolutely no chance getting an appointment that day. After having a toe amputation last year, podiatry at St James’ suggested I ask for a foot covering for the shower on prescription. They refused to do this or couldn’t be bothered. I am flying next month and as stipulated by both the airline and airport I asked for a GP letter so I could take my diabetes medications and needles in my cabin luggage. They refused suggesting that it could go in my hold luggage as it would be less for me to carry. This is despite the fact that insulin and blood sugar test strips can be damaged in the hold because of the cold. And what happens if your hold luggage goes missing in transit. They also didn’t bother to find out whether I was actually taking hold luggage anyway. It seems they are quite happy for me to risk my health because they are too busy or too lazy to write a letter. And to add insult to injury they also cancelled my phone (not in person) diabetes review last week with a nurse when it used to be a GP. This was with an hour to go. What do the GPs at Ireland Wood actually do? They certainly don’t do anything for me.

Dear Natalie, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review of our practice. I am sorry that you are unhappy with the service you have received from our surgery. The practice offers a number of routes to access, including our urgent on the day triage appointments which patients must request via phone each day. This clinic is for urgent problems that require GP contact on the same day. We are aware that the telephone systems are busy first thing in the morning, and as such we have developed other methods for patients to contact the practice meaning that they do not have to wait on the phone. If you look at our practice website and Facebook page you will see that you can contact the surgery via online service or via e-consultations. Sending an e-consultation via the practice website allows patients to get in touch without adding to waiting times on the phones. I understand that the issue you had with the letter request was resolved, but would like to assure you that such requests are processed as per our practice policy and come with a charge. I would also like to assure you that our GPs and clinicians work extremely hard to provide an excellent service to our large and complex practice population. If you remain unhappy with the service that the practice provides, you are under no obligation to remain a patient at the surgery and are free to register elsewhere if you so desire. With regards to the nursing review which was cancelled; occasionally we have to cancel appointments at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances such as staff sickness or personal emergencies etc. We always try to rearrange such appointments as quickly as possible and apologise to our patients for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately this cannot always be avoided and I am sorry if the cancellation of your appointment caused you any distress or inconvenience. I wanted to leave some well deserved positive feedback about the reception team at Ireland Wood surgery. They are always extremely busy yet are always polite and patient. Each and every interaction I have had with the staff has been positive and helpful. They always go above and beyond...even when they are ten deep at the desk!. Well done to you all...I have finally found the gp practice that care and have the time for you.

Having moved into the area My Dad recently registered at Ireland Wood and they have been absolutely fantastic. The practice is very well organised and accessible compared to his previous experiences. Everyone has been friendly and highly professional. He has several chronic conditions and the tailored and skilled care he’s received over the last couple of months has made a huge difference to his quality of life. Last week, while attending a Nurse appointment, he became slightly confused. A GP and Nurse went above and beyond in identifying an infection that was completely unrelated to his appointment and ensuring he received the appropriate treatment. The quality of care he’s received has been outstanding. Thank you to everyone at the practice for everything you do, especially in such challenging circumstances.

due to private and confidential policy been broken with the receptionist at Ireland wood surgery. when they messed up my appointment time which was an emergency and refused to give me another appointment till i had told them in a busy reception what was wrong with me for everyone to hear tho id asked that its something i do not wish to discuss in such a busy area and it will have shown on her system from the previous messed up appointment. my experience was traumatic with them when i was dealing with trauma myself. Due to this i was told i could just advise them that i would like to speak to the doctor with any further issues and not have to give a description. i rang the receptionist who told me i had to tell her and began to argue with me down the phone and then told me she would tell the doctor i am not been willing and put the phone down on me i had to ring back in a lengthy queue again to see if the appointment was booked this left me in tears and in all fairness i did not want to even speak to the doctor when he rang as he had no empathy and told me the nhs won't be here in a few years what will we do them ! and brushed off what the receptionist did. 30 years as a patient there and the past how many have been horrendous with this head doctor and his rude awkward receptionist. the doctor just told me i'm intitled to move doctors!!!!. This place use to be so loving and warm where the doctors actually loved their job and looking after people today its full of people who clearly don't want to be there and don't like people

I joined Ireland wood only about 6 months ago and wish I Joined sooner! Easy to book appointments online, Excellent communication with doctors and they keep me updated by txts texts. When I ring the surgery I don’t have to wait long at all to speak to reception. Quick actioning of medication requests.Only needed to speak to GPs but all of them have been really friendly and helpful. Needed a covid jab due to being high risk and had the GP call me on Saturday to invite me for one last minute! I really feel looked after as a patient and feel the practice is run efficiently, Keep up the good work during these difficult times :)

This was my 1st appointment with this Doctor and he was amazing. The best GP I have ever met. He was friendly, professionally, put me at ease straight away. He listened and really questioned to understand. He is clearly very experienced and his clear considered advice gave me confidence and reassurance. Thank you very much
