We arrived today to find the practice all locked up this is after the last 5 appointments cancelled on the day !! this is for my 9 year old daughter who we had to take out of school for the appointment no explanation a passer by had to tell us he was away with the latest excuse !! Work when he is there is questionable he is to busy on his moblie even answering his mobile while giving treatment !! If he dies show you could be there hours as he turns up late and doesnt do am appointments I feel sorry for the staff having to work there when he gives little notice he’s not showing up and expects the girls to have to call everyone !!! Dental association needs to look in to this !!

  2. Review titled Awful practice

This place is shockingly bad. Appointment are made for future dates only to be cancelled on the day as dentist hasn't turned up for his days work. Rebooked appointments are then made only to be cancelled on the day too. Todays appointment we didn't even get a phone call to cancel, turned up at surgery to find a sign saying closed!!! This place really needs to be looked in to and taken on by someone who is capable of doing their job.

  3. Review titled Terrible service

Cancelled numerous times, when you do get in, you sit in the waiting room for at least an hour, they are unable to keep to a schedule and appointment times, then they try and charge you extra because they have failed as a service to provide basic levels of care. Just a disgrace and general poor service.

  4. Review titled 3 cancelled appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

I booked an appointment for a check up, it has been cancelled on the day 3 times. The last time I was told not to turn up as the dentist had not arrived, the practice said they would call me but they didn't. I waited all afternoon for them to call me. I feel they are trying to get patients to go private as they can take you off the NHS list if you don't have an appointment within 2 years.

  5. Review titled Deeply disappointing level of patient care!

Rated 1 star out of 5

For the sixth time since November 2022 I have had my appointment cancelled. The cancellation came 40 minutes before the time of the appointment. I really feel the British Dental Association should look closely at the manner in which this practice operates. The practice seems to have little regard for NHS patients and I can't help wondering if this appalling level of professionalism is designed to 'shed' NHS patients in favour of catering for private patients. A really sad state of affairs !

  6. Review titled Cancelled yet again

Rated 1 star out of 5

Appointment cancelled at very short notice for the sixth time since November. Find it very unprofessional and frustrating. We have been at the practice for over 30 years and previous two dentists were great. Can’t believe it wants to treat patients, but there is nowhere else to go as no one taking on new patients. Good on you NHS!

  7. Review titled Multiple cancellations of appointments at short notice.

Rated 1 star out of 5

I am extremely disappointed and saddened at having to write this review after 15 years of excellent NHS service at Mereside Dental Practice in Alsager. From late 2022 my partner and I have had three appointments cancelled at little or no notice due to the 'non-appearance' of the practice dentist. As far as I can make out, the main 'designated dental surgeon' is based in Birmingham (some 60 miles remote from the practice) and appears to rely on the receptionist to cancel appointments at short notice due to 'problems of travel'. I cannot comment on the dentist's clinical competence as I have yet to receive any treatment ! This said, my view on both the professionalism of the service provided and patient care is lamentable. I feel urgent attention is required if this practice is to continue to provide a viable NHS-based dentistry service in Alsager.

  9. Review titled Happy Patient

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Whilst I acknowledge the previous reviews, having had quite a few appointments cancelled myself, I would like to say that this seems to have improved in more recent months. I have (unfortunately) had to have lots of work done to my teeth and I find that I feel so much more at ease with the new dentist here as I have always been a nervous patient! He’s very honest about things with a “relaxed/modern way” of talking to you, and fully explains things, which I like. The treatment I’ve had has always been good and although there can be a long wait in the waiting room, I just accept this and I prepare in advance that this might be the case. Also, I know so many people that are unable to get into an NHS dentist at all, so I feel grateful I have one and that I can have regular appointments, unlike some people. He will always make the time to see you if you need an emergency appointment too, even when he is super busy he will find a way of fitting an appointment in for you on the same day. I also think the new dentist has made lots of positive changes to what was quite an “old fashioned” surgery. He offers more up to date services that the previous dentist didn’t, including teeth whitening etc. Overall, I’m really happy with the dentist practise and all of the staff there. The dental nurses and receptionists are all really lovely too, always happy and make you feel at ease.

  10. Review titled Won't be going back

Rated 1 star out of 5

I've been registered at this practice for 20 years without any issues, but since the previous dentist retired the quality of service and treatment has declined to the point of abysmal. I had work done a year ago which was not a total success and a crown fitted which has subsequently broken off. Returned recently due to toothache, a lost filling and a loose crown. X rays were taken and a follow-up appointment made. The appointment was cancelled with only two hours notice. Subsequent appointment was booked, by which time the crown had broken off as mentioned above. The waiting room was full, two patients gave up and left after nearly an hour without being seen. The surgery room felt chaotic and so rushed I didn't feel at all happy with the quality of the treatment, the descaling was brutally fast and erratic. No mention was made regarding the previous xrays and the appointment was very rushed. Two days later the filling has dropped out. I will not be returning here and will have to pay for private treatment elsewhere in future.
