  1. Review titled Not sure I want to back.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Clinically brilliant but the receptionist!!!OMG. Once I had managed to get his attention he continued to lean back in his chair, his arms stretched out straight as he typed on the keyboard, and chew his gum whilst talking to me. He really gave the impression that he couldn’t care less. Having worked myself as a receptionist in a GP Surgery I was quite shocked to receive such rudeness. On previous visits I have always felt totally unimportant and a bit of an inconvenience when talking with ‘them’ face to face. Bizarrely on the phone, once I got through (1/2 hour of constant redialling) the receptionist couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. Sadly at face to face engagement there is an overwhelming theme of making it as uncomfortable as possible. There’s normally 3 or 4 receptionists behind the desk, who do not appear to be working - there is no talking as if on a phone, there is talking to each other and I’m always standing wondering who I am supposed to approach as no one is inviting or welcoming. I understand it’s a tough job and the general public can be difficult. I also understand it takes the right personality to be a receptionist in any kind of health service and I truly hope that when I return he is not still there and the rest of the reception team have had some training regarding patient facing services. This truly is not a reflection on the dentist - she is fabulous and couldn’t be more caring. Sadly I left my appointment with thoughts of not wanting to go back, knowing that it really wouldn’t matter if I didn’t.

  2. Review titled Dental shaming.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

    by MS Z C AYLWARD - Posted on 29 November 2023

Some folks have deeply rooted and personal reasons why their teeth aren't good. Not to mention shocking dental provision in this country. It is awful that the dentist I see here is frosty, barely concealing her judgementalism and ensuring that I am humiliated and not able to assertively state what I'm experiencing and what I need. Very very poor bedside manner and an unpleasantly superior attitude. Hard to be grateful when shamed and scowled at.

  3. Review titled ... I have almost no words for how much I love this practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I am not really a nervy person but, like a lot of people, I do tend to get panicky about toof matters. I have to travel to Gloucester from quite a way and I am compelled to say that I have not ever regretted one mile travelled and I have been here many, many times. Everyone I have met here are lovely. Always make me feel at ease. I have never had to wait long, I have always got an appointment when required...everyone has spoken to me with respect and friendliness each & every time. I always feel better when I go out the door on the way home. With previous places I've left in tears. Thank you xx

My son had an accident resulting in the loss of about 50% of his right upper incisor & the 2 closes had become loose. The team arrange for an urgent appointment & a splint to be fitted within 24 hrs of the accident. Fantastic service and care. Thank you

  7. Review titled Outstanding Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dalton Ruck - Posted on 22 December 2022

My 8 year old son was involved in an incident at school, which left him with a serious injury to his front teeth! We rushed to St james dental as unregistered patients with the hope of an emergency appointment. The staff on reception were so lovely and did everything they could to help! We were extremely lucky that the Principal dentist had just had an appointment cancelled and was able to see my son immediately! He took one look at his teeth and knew exactly how to deal with his situation. Within minutes he got to work and repositioned my sons teeth to almost exactly how they were before the accident. He was so kind and patient with my son who was still in shock and in a lot of pain. This helped to put both my self and my son at ease! As much as this was an upsetting and stressful situation, and we’re not out of the water yet, without the help of the staff at st James dental I wouldn’t like to think of how much worse it could of been. We cannot thank them enough for all they’ve done for our son, and all with such care and kindness. My son decided to he wanted to buy the staff a gift as a thank you for all of their help!

Very efficient, attentive and a nice environment. Staff are knowledgeable and treat you as a human being rather than a number

I have been using this practice for over 5 years and in the past couple of years there has been a massive decline, the staff seem to change everytime I visit. I had a treatment yesterday and am in agony today, I regularly have this treatment and never had pain like this before

  10. Review titled You're 1 in a million if your call gets answered

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Bronwyn - Posted on 20 September 2022

The dentist themselves is good and has taken good care of my teeth over the course of my treatment, same for the dental hygienist. However, this surgery has a real problem with their phone lines. I've seen reviews from well over a year ago where people can't get through via the phone and it's still the same today. There's no greeting message, just a busy line dial tone. It's very frustrating and does nothing to manage patient (aka customer) expectations. Also at my most recent visit I had a very bad experience with a rude receptionist when I told them that I could hear them complaining about the patients (to be specific, patients who were not happy about their calls not being answered). Instead of simply apologising, they argued with me about how busy they are, their response was so irrelevant that I guess they were implying that they're allowed to openly complain about patients because they're...doing the job that they're paid to do. I should say that this was just one receptionist this one time, the rest were never rude to me. Instead of getting angry at the patients, maybe hold your employer to account and get them to provide a reasonable phone service. The rude receptionist even said to me that they specifically tell patients to email because the phone lines are bad. I literally have a voicemail from them from earlier that day telling me to call them back, I have texts telling me to call them. Someone else did eventually come over to me in the reception area and apologise on the receptionists behalf but I'm still shocked at how poorly this interaction was handled by the receptionist. This bad experience aside, if you don't mind never being able to phone your dental surgery, this is the place for you.
