Do I need a referral from my GP to use a GUM/sexual health clinic?

No. Although your GP can refer you to a sexual health clinic, you can also make an appointment yourself without a referral.

At certain times, some genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics also operate as drop-in centres, where you can turn up without needing to make a prior appointment.

Find your nearest sexual health service.

You can also get help from:

  • the NHS National Sexual Health Helpline (call 0800 567 123)
  • a community contraception clinic
  • a pharmacy

They may be able to offer tests for some infections and advise you on where to go for further help.
