Overview

Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) provides the majority of Bradford Teaching Hospitals’ inpatient services and is host to one of the UK’s busiest A&E departments, with more than 125,000 attendances per year.

In 2016, we will open a new £28 million hospital wing which will house our paediatric services, two adult medicine wards and a purpose-built intensive care unit. This will see a continuation of our work to improve patient experience after our new £2 million neonatal unit officially opened in January 2015. This new unit introduced more cots, including intensive care and high dependency cots, new family accommodation, a revamped counselling suite and a dedicated room for mothers to express milk for their pre-term babies.

Bradford Royal Infirmary is also the home of the renowned Born in Bradford Research team studying the health of 13,500 children born at BRI between March 2007 and December 2010. You can also find The Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service (YAIS) here and the high-tech £2.8m Listening for Life facility which offers support and rehabilitation for all patients with cochlear implants.

We also offer pioneering robotic surgery with the use of our £2 million da Vinci robot. Since its introduction, prostate operations have trebled at Bradford Royal Infirmary and we are the only centre in Yorkshire to offer this revolutionary technological procedure for all three urological cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidneys. The precise nature of our robot means patients can recover more quickly and only need to stay in hospital overnight rather than spend a week recovering on a ward.

You can also find our first class education department here based in Field House, which contains our simulation centre and the Sovereign Lecture Theatre where staff can attend lectures and workshops given by speakers and healthcare professionals from across the country.
