Overview

St Helier Hospital

St Helier Hospital is a large general teaching hospital in south-west London which offers a full range of acute services for adults and children.

It is the largest hospital of the Trust and shares the site with Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, which celebrated its centenary last year.

St Helier is home to a 24-hour accident and emergency department, a newly refurbished maternity unit and a comprehensive range of diagnostic facilities within pathology and radiology (including MRI and CT scanning, ultrasound and vascular diagnostic services).

All emergency surgery in the Trust is performed at St Helier.

The renal unit provides acute renal care and dialysis and is integrated with the St George's Hospital transplantation programme.

Looking to the future
In 2011, the preliminary work has began on a major £219 million redevelopment of St Helier Hospital.
The plan includes demolishing the hospital's five-storey Ferguson House and replacing it with a brand new, state-of-the-art building which will house the majority of the hospitals wards and clinics. The new building will include 346 beds, with more than 50 per cent being in single rooms.
