Glowing CQC Report

CQC Logo

Wilmslow Health Centre has had its CQC inspection report published after a routine inspection at the end of 2013. The glowing report indicates that the health centre has met all the required government standards. The detailed inspection also involved collecting the views of Wilmslow Health Centre’s ever growing list of registered patients:
“I’ve never had any problems getting an appointment; they get me in on the same day, if it’s necessary.”
“I’m not rushed by the doctors – they take as long as it takes”.
“This is a very professional practice. We are listened to and cared for. I would not go anywhere else.”
“…never had any problems getting an appointment; I can be seen the same day if it’s an emergency”.
“This is wonderful, I only joined the practice yesterday and today I’ve been seen and treated – I would say I’ve been treated very well!”

2014 looks like another busy year for the practice which has just welcomed its 11,500th registered patient making it one of the fastest growing practices in Cheshire. The development of new services continues apace with the launch of a new private psychiatry and psychotherapy service in partnership with The Priory Hospital.
The practice has also recently invested in the latest cardiac monitoring equipment which employs telehealth technology linking patients up to top cardiologists based at University Hospital South Manchester. Doctors can now monitor patients’ heart rhythms over a number of days to diagnose or exclude arrhythmias without even visiting a hospital.
Wilmslow Health Centre now boasts an array of secondary care services delivered, without compromise, from purpose built premises at the heart of East Cheshire. The list includes:
Orthopaedic Upper Limb surgery (In partnership with Wrightington Hospital)Echocardiography (in partnership with University Hospital of South Manchester)Palpitations Clinic (in partnership with University Hospital South Manchester)Urology (in partnership with University Hospital South Manchester)ENT (in partnership with Manchester Surgical Services)Ophthalmology (in partnership with Optegra Eye Hospital)Gynaecology (in partnership with Macclesfield Hospital)Gastroenterology (in partnership with Manchester Surgical Services)….and more specialists  are always welcome!
No surprise then that patients are queuing up to join the Health Centre, which has grown faster than ever in the last couple of years.
Drs Brennan and Ahmed are delighted with the CQCs findings and look forward to an even more successful year to come.

New community Ophthalmology Service Launched

Optegra, a leading eye care expert, has opened its first ever outreach clinic, bringing its expertise and advice to Wilmslow.

The new clinic has opened within Wilmslow Health Centre and was the brainchild of local GP, Dr Amar Ahmed, who is a partner at the centre.

Dr Ahmed said "I approached Optegra as we were very happy with the care they were giving our patients. It was timely, high quality, and always led by top eye consultants. This is the latest in a number of projects we offer here in Wilmslow, and we see it as an ideal service to offer patients – not just those registered at our surgery, but patients across Cheshire."

The clinic is run by leading ophthalmic surgeons, state of the art equipment is brought to the Wilmslow Health Centre and patients, both NHS and private, can be seen within a few days of referral.

Caroline McHugh, hospital manager for Optegra Manchester Eye Hospital, said: "This is our first outreach clinic, and it is wonderful to bring our experts and equipment to a GP surgery, making our services so easily available throughout Cheshire.

"We are always looking for suitable partners and this new clinic at Wilmslow Health Centre is an exciting opportunity to bring our full range of treatments as well as offering advice on all aspects of eye care and eye health. We are already starting to look into other outreach clinics!"

Optegra, which has one of its specialist eye hospitals in Didsbury is supported by over 60 consultant level ophthalmic surgeons who provide a wide range of ophthalmic procedures including: Clarivu (refractive lens exchange), laser vision correction, cataract removal, glaucoma, AMD and cosmetic procedures.

The new clinic runs on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings at Wilmslow Health Centre, and appointments can be booked by calling Optegra on tel: 0800 368 4848.

2010 Flu preparations begin early.

In order to protect vulnerable patients from 'flu this winter, Wilmslow Health Centre has organised two special weekend immunisation clinics.
The most effective way to prevent influenza or the severe outcomes from influenza is vaccination. Safe and effective vaccines have been available and used for more than 60 years. Among healthy adults, influenza vaccine can prevent 70% to 90% of influenza-specific illness. Among the elderly, the vaccine reduces severe illnesses and complications by up to 60%, and deaths by 80%.

We have arranged an extra 2000 immunisation appointments to ensure that our patients can be protected as quickly and as conveniently as possible.

The clinics will be held on Saturday 9th October and Saturday 23rd October, between 8:30AM and Noon.

You are eligible for a 'flu jab if:

You are aged 65 years or over

You are under 65 years of age AND have a diagnosis of Diabetes, Respiratory Disease, Kidney Disease, Liver Disease, Heart Disease, Stroke, or if you are immunocompromised.

We request that all eligible patients begin booking their appointments directly with reception immediately.

Official: Wilmslow Health Centre one of the best for getting appointments

InsideWHC[1].png

Wilmslow Health Centre was 1 of only 7 practices in the whole of the region (53 practices) that achieved the highest scores in the independently conducted national patient experience survey this year. Below is a letter sent to Wilmslow Health Centre by the Chief Executive of the PCT. Dear Dr Case As you are aware, the National Patient Experience Survey results for Improving Access have recently been published. The PCT has now had an opportunity to analyse and reflect on the results, and to make comparisons with national and PCT benchmarks. We are very pleased to see that your practice has scored consistently well, being one of only 7 practices within Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT who achieved the highest threshold in all 4 criteria - 48 hour access; pre-bookable appointments; ease of telephone access; and the ability to consult a GP of choice. Access can be a challenging problem for many G.P. practices, and you have obviously worked hard to achieve the flexibility between responding to patient demand for urgent appointments, and at the same time, allowing for sufficient pre-bookable appointments. Congratulations on your achievement and keep up the good work! Yours sincerely Mike Pyrah Chief Executive
