Overview

We are a surgery based in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, operating from 3 locations, Hillside Health Centre and Sandy Lane Health Centres in Skelmersdale, and Railway Road Surgery in Ormskirk.

We operate a Talk and Treat Telephone service:

Our practice is one of an increasing number in the UK using a telephone consultation system as a first point of contact for patients needing medical advice and treatment.

You can request a Talk and Treat call back at a time that is convenient for you - during which you and your doctor will discuss the most appropriate way forward for your individual situation.  This may be to come straight to the surgery, to come later in the day or another day, or to have another form of treatment put in place purely on the basis of the phone assessment itself.

We can call you at home, work, even abroad!  Most patients find this a very convenient means of accessing advice and treatment - and we can pick up emergency problems quickly and put the right course of action in place, which might range from a 999 call, to an immediate or same day appointment.

There are many ways of co-ordinating your care from the initial Talk and Treat call - the following just give a flavour:

Information and advice, face to face assessment in surgery or at home for those unable to travel, access to our extended team of specialist prescribing nurses, health care assistants and nurse clinicians, prescriptions, referrals, sick notes, liaising with the hospital on your behalf.

We are able to satisfactorily help about 50% of our callers during the Talk and Treat phone call. The other 50% of callers will need to come into surgery for a further assessment.

Please remember this is all about personalising and tailoring the care to suit your medical needs - we will try to work around your schedule wherever we can.

We note there are a number of comments about this service on the review page.

FEEDBACK

We very much value our patients' feedback on NHS Choices.  However, if you have any concerns, issues, queries with regards to your experience with Beacon Primary Care, we would be grateful if you could, in the first instance, please contact the surgery on 01695 736000 and ask to speak to one of our Patient Friends, Katrina or Gill.  Alternatively you can email the surgery - welaccg.beaconprimarycare@nhs.net.  Information will be taken, logged, and the Patient Friend will try to deal with the issue there and then.  If this is not possible you can be assured that the Patient Friend will have a thorough look at the issue and will agree a convenient time to get back to you with an outcome or explanation.  If you leave anonymous feedback we cannot respond effectively - it would help everyone if you could please call the surgery direct - this way we can be proactive in our actions and response.  Thank you for your co-operation.
