Overview

Matthew Hopkins, Chief Executive

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is an acute Trust providing hospital services for approximately 420,000 people living across southwest London and northeas Surrey.

Across our four hospitals (St Helier Hospital, Sutton Hospital, Epsom Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children) we see and treat more than 700,000 people per year, which works out at approximately 1,900 patients every single day.

We also run services from a number of other local hospitals, eight satellite renal dialysis centres, and manage the Elective Orthopaedic Centre, which is based at Epsom.

We have a dedicated team of 4,800 staff, supported by almost 500 volunteers, who work around the clock to make sure our patients get the care and treatment they need.

Across the Trust, we have invested more than £30 million into our hospitals during the last three years and plan to spend £10 million more this year on improving our services and equipment. You can read more about the investments and improvements we have made on our website.

We are also going from strength to strength in terms of our performance, and in recent years we have met all of the government standards expected of us (including keeping infections to a minimum and seeing and treating our patients promptly).

In addition, St Helier Hospital will shortly be undergoing a significant £219 million redevelopment, which will include a brand new hospital building and a significant investment of £40 million into the rest of the site.

Most importantly of all, the feedback we receive from patients, either through independent national surveys or our own internal research - shows that their experience has improved too.

In April 2010, the CQC awarded us a licence to provide services under a new set of tougher rules and regulations. We were registered unconditionally, meaning the CQC had no issues or concerns about the safety and quality of our care.

Departments and services

We offer an extensive range of services to the people of southwest London and northeast Surrey, including Sutton, Merton and Epsom.

These include 24-hour A&E departments at both Epsom and St Helier hospitals and two dedicated maternity departments. We also offer a number of specialised services, including, among others, cancer, stroke, immunology, sexual health, allergy and dermatology.

St Helier Hospital is also home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, whilst Epsom Hospital is home to the EOC (Elective Orthopaedic Centre).

Whether you're starting a family and would like to have your baby in our home-from-home birth centre, or whether you need dialysis and would like treatment closer to your home, we could have the perfect service for you.

You can see a comprehensive list of all of our services on our website.
