We are a large teaching hospital and undertake leading edge research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Our specialist consultants provide a regional service for the south of England linked to local hospital services for the population of Southampton.

We have centres of excellence in the treatment of cancer, heart disease, respiratory conditions, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal disease and illnesses affecting women and children.

We achieved Foundation Trust status on 1 October 2011 and changed our name from Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust to University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
