  1. Review titled Amazing practice!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Charlotte meir - Posted on 03 July 2023

Since moving to Wolstanton Ive been registered at this surgery and it’s by far the best practice I’ve visited. It’s always clean, the staff couldn’t be more helpful and the doctors / nurses are always so patient with us, especially our young daughters. We never fail to get appointments when required and somebody is always available to provide advice / further treatment.

  2. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Philip Thomas Butler - Posted on 29 June 2023

Received a text message informing me my Asthma review, I phoned the practice to book a day and time, was on the phone for about 5 mins, the receptionist booked my appointment. A couple of days later I turned up for the appointment, was told to wait in the back waiting room. I was waiting no more than 5 minutes when the Asthma nurse called my name, my blood pressure was taken and weight, the nurse covered the usual questions, my medication was covered. The people who work at the practice are always pleasant and professional a great practice.

  3. Review titled Fabulous staff at this surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Linda Hammond - Posted on 17 May 2023

I have always had positive experiences with this surgery and due to ongoing problems I speak to or see the Drs or nurses very often. I always find both Drs and nurses considerate and helpful. I've never struggled to get an appointment when I really need it. Online queries are answered in a timely manner. I've even had a response on a Sunday evening. The Drs work long hours but remain patient and diligent. This is a very busy surgery covering a large catchment area but despite this staff seek to work in collaboration with patients to find the best solution to any problem or difficulty. In my experience this surgery is second to none and I've lived all over the country.

Dear Ms Hammond Thank you for taking the time to offer this feedback. Whilst we do not get everything right, we do strive to offer a good general practice service as a dedicated team and I'm delighted that you have had positive experiences from the care we provide. Specific feedback such as you have provided about consideration, helpfulness, timeliness, diligence, and patient-centredness is very valuable and encourages the whole team to deliver the best care we can. Kind regards John Edwards, GP Partner Wolstanton.MedicalCentre@nhs.net

  4. Review titled Not allowed an appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I wanted to see a doctor or nurse for a check up as I have been on the pill for a while and I have to go in for a yearly check up. I haven’t been in 3 years due to every time I ring to get an appointment I am told I am not allowed to see the doctor for this check up. I finally got an appointment by lying to the receptionist and I asked the doctor if I am meant to see them every year he said yes. I can’t understand why I am not allowed to see the doctor when I ask. The receptionist out right refuses when I ask. I shouldn’t have to lie to see the doctor.

Thank you for your feedback. We use our Online Consult system for routine pill checks for the majority of our patients as this is a convenient service which can be accessed at any time of the day or night and can be used if patients have access to a blood pressure machine and weighing scales. Evidence suggests that self-complete pill check forms are as safe and effective as face to face consultations. As with any practice, there is a limited capacity for appointments, and this approach helps us to reserve face to face appointments for those issues which cannot be managed any other way. We also have feedback from patients that it is a quick and easy way to get a repeat prescription if they happy with their current pill and do not want to make any changes. That being said, if you do wish to discuss your pill, other contraceptive options or have side effects you are not happy with, it is absolutely appropriate to make an appointment. The receptionists are trained to direct patients to the most appropriate service for their problem. For contraceptive reviews an appointment with our nursing team, rather than a GP, is usually the most appropriate way forwards. Kind regards John Edwards (GP)

Had a really wonderful experience today having an annual review & smear with the practice nurse. She took time to listen and explain and put me at ease in the appointment. Such a great, positive experience. Thank you

Thank you for your kind words. It's very pleasing that a consultation regarding a procedure that some feel apprehensive about went well for you. I hope your positive experience helps others feel confident about their screening appointments too. Kind regards John Edwards (GP)

  6. Review titled The Practice has sadly gone downhill

Rated 3 stars out of 5

It's such a shame to see this Practice fail. Years ago this was the best Practice in the city. I attended Saturdays flu Clinic after having an appointment, I queued 45 minutes outside with vulnerable patients who were a mixture of patients who were walk ins and whom had appointment yet were in the same clue. This process doesn't work, how can you have an appointment and be a walk in but join the same queue. After queuing for 45 minutes I finally got to the 2 receptionists in the Surgery whom asked me my name, date of birth and address infront of a waiting room full of people, where was my confidentiality. This flu Clinic was run wrong from beginning to end and in all the years I've been at the Practice this is the worst flu clinic I have been too, patients constantly moaning and leaving the queue. Another issue I've had is with prescriptions, constantly wrong every other month. Your receptionists work hard and I can only imagine they get verbally abused on a daily basis but if they are going to be abrupt with patients and unhelpful then they will get the backlash off the patients. Kindness and respect goes a long way.

Thank you for the feedback - this is not the only comment we have received about the flu clinc of 26th November. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by attending the flu clinic on Saturday. We have tried different models of clinic over the last two months since the vaccination season started for us on the 24th September 2022. We started with walk-in clinics to try and get as many people vaccinated as soon as possible. We then moved to book-in clinics, however these were not typically filled to capacity, including the clinic of Saturday 26th November. Therefore for the last two clinics, we have opened up to walk-in patients as well, so we can offer as many vaccinations as possible to those who need them. As we have a limited supply (we have to rely on staff members doing overtime to deliver these clinics) and uncertain demand (when we open up to walk-ins) it does result in queuing at times and busy clinics for staff. We are grateful for the hard work the staff have undertaken. We apologise again for the service not meeting your expectations on this occasion and we will certainly review our service delivery model, reflecting on feedback from staff and patients, when designing our approach next year. With regards to the prescription issues, without knowing your identity we are not able to investigate the issue to establish where the problem is arising from. Please contact the practice to advise us of your details and the issues you have faced so we can look in to this. John Edwards, GP Partner Wolstanton.MedicalCentre@nhs.net

The team at WMC are always extremely helpful and I have never had an issue. Both the GPs and the nursing staff are efficient and you never feel rushed.

  8. Review titled excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I needed to contact the admin team at the surgery .I went on the web site I followed the instructions and typed in my request. Within 24 hours I was emailed and a 14 page document was emailed to me. I cannot complain about the email service we have received. It saved a visit to the surgery and the need to phone or see a doctor . This leaves the the staff more time to see the patents who do need to see a doctor or make an appointment on the phone.

  9. Review titled Terrible surgery

Rated 1 star out of 5

Have to ring at 8.30am to try to get an appointment, constantly ringing for 30/40 minutes, when you eventually get through all the appointments have gone. Best chance is to go to the surgery and join the que at 8.30pm. If you are lucky to get one, the policy is that you have to see a nurse so you cannot access a GP. For my last 3 appointments, the nurse had to call a doctor to come in as they are not able to deal with more complex issues, each time a different GP came in so no consistency and no time to discuss issues properly. Cannot book in advance or ask to see a particular doctor. I understand during Covid it was hard but why cant we see a GP now? Where have they all gone? This is why so many people going to A&E as no primary care. Its awful and I feel sorry for all the elderly so will be switching practices asap for the other surgery in wolstanton
