  1. Review titled The receptionist make make life or death decisions

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Shaun Walsh - Posted on 01 March 2024

Reported my blood pressure to receptionist as being excessively high. She offered an appointment at 17:15pm. My wife expressed concern at possible heart attack to be told that’s earliest we can do. Go to A&E if gets worse.. went to UTC at Pontefract to then be taken to Pinderfirlds A&E on an ambulance due to excessive high blood pressure and unstable ECG.

  4. Review titled New booking System

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 August 2023

The new booking System is not fit for purpose. After receiving a notification from the practice to book an appointment "with no link attached "only to receive a message "there are no appointments suitable for your needs" ie phone or face to face on the new system. How this the answer to the 8am pot luck phone call God only knows.

  5. Review titled New Automated Service - Does not work

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 July 2023

Got to the GP surgery 08:10 hrs wanting to make a face to face appointment but was told there was non? Asked the reason why I needed to see the GP, advised breathlessness and pain in chest. Told to go home and use the new service e.g., ring the number, press option 1 then 4 for a GP appointment, 1 for face to face only to be told "service not working at moment", tried this several times still saying service not working so tried to book a telephone consultation only to get the same message. I am absolutely disgusted, made worse by the fact that the surgery was empty of patients? What's happening..............................................

  6. Review titled What has happened to this GP Surgery?

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 June 2023

I have been registered since the age of 16 with this practice. I am now 52. I am not a regular/prolific user of the practice. I barely attend other than for things like smears/covid vaccines so having worked since 16 and paid my taxes when I need to see a General Practitioner I expect it to be simple. Far from it. I called this morning using the automated phone service to book a face to face appointment. None available - didn’t tell me whether that was just today or ever. I tried again for a phone appointment; same thing so I spent 50 mins trying to get through to a receptionist to be told basically there was no appointments available today (fair enough) so I asked to book an appointment for a chat about a significant gynaecology issue that really needs addressing and its impacting on my life/work. I was told they would not book appointments other than for that day and if I wanted one in the future I had to use the automated system which clearly, according to other reviews, is pointless. So I either have to take an hour or so off work every morning to sit in a phone queue waiting to see if there’s a possible chance of an appointment that day and if not then that’s just tough. The receptionist said I could see a nurse. I said I wanted to see a GP. It seems to me the practice is running on the cheap, using the nurses (who I am sure are doing a brilliant job) to take the workload off the General Practitoner. Whilst in principle I don’t have an issue with this for things that nurses can handle; the fact is I want to see a General Practitioner and I should not been discouraged from doing so by a receptionist or a system that appears to be designed to put up so many barriers its neigh on impossible to get a service I pay a significant amount of my earnings in tax for. I now understand why Accident and Emergency is overflowing with patients. Like others have said pre Covid this practice appeared to work fine ( I know from family members and friends who use it more than I have ever done) Post Covid it would appear there has been a significant shift that is not in the patient interests at all. I am really disappointed today because for the first time in a long time I have needed to speak with a General Practitioner to find they are not there for me.

  7. Review titled Do I Understand What An Antibiotic Is?

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by AEB - Posted on 19 June 2023

After requesting a repeat prescription via Kings Medical Centres online service, I received a phone call a couple of days later from one of their back office staff, she asked ‘did I understand the medication I’d requested was an antibiotic?’, I was taken aback. Of course I know what an antibiotic is!! and I totally appreciate why and when I need them. The GP understands my condition and so do I, I don’t need someone from the back office asking me that question and not dealing with my request in the appropriate manner. The back office staff are not qualified to decide whether I need medication or not. Please leave this to the professionals.

  8. Review titled Always had a positive experience with this surgery.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 June 2023

Was recently seen by the Dr's here. I submitted an online form and received a response within a couple of hours, then shortly after a telephone call to book me for an appointment, which was within 2 weeks. I was really impressed with the timely response of the surgery. I've only been at this surgery a couple of years but they've always been so helpful. Yes it's busy if you need to ring early in the morning but I doubt there are many places that aren't. I've always been seen by an appropriate clinician. Would recommend this surgery to my family and friends 100%

  9. Review titled Exceptional care in difficult times

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 July 2023

Given the pressure the NHS is under, King’s has always exceeded my expectations as a patient and relative of patients. Whilst there may not be appointments available at the exact time we need them, the attentiveness of the staff and their ability to arrange appropriate appointments and care is incredible. If they can’t meet my needs, they’ve always given appropriate alternative advice. The care from the GP’s and practice nurses is exceptional, with time taken to listen and respond to symptoms and issues and to arrange appropriate care and give advice.

  10. Review titled Abysmal

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 May 2023

The clinical staff, if you ever manage to get in touch with them by some miracle, are wonderful and do their absolute best under the circumstances. The administrative aspect however is absolutely awful, uncommunicative, and frankly I would deem incompetent. Missing coding of conditions on medical records, letters that get sent to the surgery seem to disappear, 30+ minute hold times to get to 'Enquiries' who are seemingly unable to actually provide any information, the only way to discuss anything prescription related is by email - and good luck getting any kind of response except an autoreply. I genuinely dread having to make any attempt to contact this surgery for any reason, as I know I will have to put aside potentially several hours for even the simplest of queries, and even then probably get nowhere fast. I absolutely understand the NHS itself is struggling, and as I mentioned the actual clinical staff - if you get to them - are empathetic, understanding, and do their best with the extremely limited time they have, and the service absolutely has by utmost support, love and respect for what it does - but because of the stress, anxiety and frustration every time I have to engage with the surgery I would absolutely recommend registering elsewhere.
