  1. Review titled Good for repeat prescriptions...

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 April 2024

Not sure if all GP services are the same these days but why is no option to book online anymore? not seen a doctor in maybe 5 years. Recently had a blood test and blood pressure routine test and was asked to record my blood pressure daily and hand it in. I have high blood pressure and is been 2 weeks now that I've heard nothing from them. I need to see GP for other reasons so I was hoping this will make getting an appointment a bit easier but that does not seem to be the case.

  2. Review titled Registration

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 March 2024

I have been with this practice for a number of years and when I moved house I immediately informed them of my new address and was informed that I could continue to be a patient However, 7 months later I received a curt text informing I was to be deregistered due to my new address. This is despite me being in the middle of ongoing treatment with the GP, and the fact that I believe it would be detrimental to my treatment to change at this time

  3. Review titled Phone booking system is shocking, don't bother

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 March 2024

As previous patients have reported, the phone booking system is useless and when it has faults it just keeps telling the caller to hold on! The medical group may be good, but if the initial contact system is broken what's the point? They really need to sort this out, 'your call' obviously isn't Important to them. We spent over an hour trying to book an appointment for a disabled relative on 4 different phones and every time we passed position 1, in the queue it rang for 4-5 times them went back to 'your call is important to us' and no mention of queue position 😡😡😡😡, we have been left with no option but to actually call into the practice.

  4. Review titled I spent nearly 4 hours in a phone queue

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 February 2024

I have to say that the doctors in this practice are good, and I get my prescriptions renewed quickly. Getting through to a GP can be difficult. I called the practice yesterday morning. I am pregnant and I need to check if my beta blocker medication can be taken during the pregnancy. When I called I was given a slot in the afternoon for a call. I thought that a GP will call me, but instead it was a midwifery centre. They told me that I need to talk to my GP. This morning I called as closely as I could to the opening time (8 am), I must have pressed the call button at 5 seconds after that. I was number 22 in the phone queue. After queuing for 3 hours and 40 minutes (I have a screengrab to prove that) I was disconnected, or my phone was disconnected.

Dear patient, many thanks for your review of the practice. I'm sorry it fell below the expectations that you had. On Tuesday 13th February, we had a major problem with our phones lines internally and externally from the City Centre branch from 8am and we worked hard to get them back to normal service but unfortunately we had to get out an engineer to help resolve this. Our phone lines from the City Centre branch were diverted to the Newbiggin Hall branch surgery on the Tuesday until the Wednesday afternoon when they resumed normal service. Staff from Saville Place were transferred to Newbiggin Hall to best meet demand caused by technical issues outside of our control. We tried to keep patients informed the best we could by updating our website throughout both days that we were affected.. I apologise for the long wait in the queue but unfortunately this was due to the telephone system error. Our phone lines are back to normal service now and we have raised this matter higher with our provider.

  5. Review titled Terrible experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Jamie Hutton - Posted on 19 September 2023

Been with this gp practice for 6 years and was deregistered without any warning or correspondence. The only reason i found out was because i ordered my medication and the day it was due received a text to say i am no longer apart of the practice. The reason being that i am ‘now registered with another practice’ which isnt the case!! Because of this i was left 4 days without any of my daily medications or without any gp surgery to help me, resulting in hours on the phone to nhs 111 to try get an emergency prescription. As a full time nhs dentist I found this appalling, having to waste time in my busy day when i should have been seeing patients. Not everyone has hours to spend every day doing things like this- all which could have been prevented with better communication on your part! I hope you don't deregister elderly people without any notice! Some notice would be nice in future so people aren't left in pain/ difficulty trying to find a new gp or even worse an emergency prescription to get out of pain! Im lucky I'm younger and have support. Terrible treatment, disappointing altogether and would never treat one of my patients the same way!

  6. Review titled Good caring doctor

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The Doctor at Newbiggin Hall surgery was brilliant. She went out of her way to help my son. Don't think my son would have got the help he needed desperately if it hadn't been for her. Thank You so much to that doctor. x

  7. Review titled Why the NHS should be treasured!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 July 2023

I contacted the city surgery on behalf of my elderly Mum, had a bit of a cough for a while. Offered an appt next day with nurse practitioner, was unsure but referred to hospital for X-ray. Mum attended straight after leaving surgery. X-ray performed. Received phone call from surgery next day (from nurse practioner) to say X-ray had identified chest infection. Within two hours local pharmacy had delivered a course of antibiotics. Thank you so much, NHS have shown kind caring and compassionate care to my Mum.

  8. Review titled Unattentive Doctor

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 October 2023

I saw a GP twice for a skin issue and they seemed quite dismissive and weren't really listening to me. In another appointment with a nurse, the nurse seemed surprised that the doctor had not looked at my skin with a dermatoscope, which has left me feeling as though the doctor was neglectful/lazy in confirming my diagnosis which has caused me anxiety. The nurse also gave me much more helpful information about the condition and treatment and seemed to know much more about it than the doctor which is concerning to me. Either that or the doctor simply couldn't be bothered to tell me; for example in my second GP appointment I was told simply to repeat the treatment, however the nurse said that I need to do it differently and informed me that an alternative treatment wasn't available on the NHS, which the doctor also failed to mention.

  10. Review titled Impossible to get seen.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 March 2023

Whenever I call up I am put in a queue that is never shorter than 20 people long - which takes at least 30 minutes. Then, when I get to first place in the queue it never transfers me to a receptionist. I went through the process 3 times yesterday before deciding to change GPs. When I rang my new GP, I got through immediately was offered an appointment in under a week. This is saying nothing about the actual doctors who were lovely, but I could never get an appointment with them. People always suggest to me that I should book an appointment online. I would, except they are not taking online requests, and if you go through the Patient Access app, you can only book 4 things, not including a GP consultation!?
