  1. Review titled Terrible experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chelsea - Posted on 11 February 2024

I took my partner here after he collapsed on the toilet as recommended by our GP practise. He had been ill for a few days before this happened. When we got to see someone after 2.5 hrs we were told we needed to leave as he had covid. I would like to put here that no test was carried out and when we did our own it was negative. They woman who saw him wouldn't even listen and even laughed when I explained that he'd stopped breathing when unconscious and told me he'd be dead if that happen. I brought him there to make sure he hadn't caused any damage when he collapsed and nothing was looked into because she assumed he had covid. I feel covid was used as an excuse to get through numbers quicker. I am so angry about the experience and feel let down.

Dear Chelsea Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your partner's experience whilst visiting one of our services. I am so sorry to read of the experiences you have described which definitely fall short of the standards we aspire to here at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. I can only begin to imagine what a worrying time it must have been for you and your partner and it is disappointing to read how staff laughed at you when you shared your concerns with them. This is not something we would want anyone to experience and for that I am sorry. It is difficult to look into this further without some additional details and therefore, I wondered if you would be happy to contact our PALS team (myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net). The team would be able to look into your concerns further. Thank you again for sharing your concerns with us and I hope your partner is recovering well. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

I attended Pontefract hospital in February 2024 for a hip replacement. The staff at the hospital were fantastic, the care and support I received was excellent. All aspects of care managed very well such as physio therapy.

  3. Review titled Wonderful Care, Lovely Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mark Robinson - Posted on 12 February 2024

A really positive experience, I had a knee replacement and spent a couple of nights on Ward 7 afterwards, all I can say is that the staff were wonderful, from my pre op appointment, the way that I was looked after pre op and post op. The advice that I was given about pain management was invaluable. I am recovering well and would recommend the Orthopaedic Department and Physios to anybody. I was just sad that I couldn't say thank you personally to everyone who cared for me so well. Thank You very much.

  4. Review titled Service not fit for Purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Siobhan - Posted on 15 January 2024

Pain clinic. Really poor experience, initially told of a care pathway etc. None of that is true. Initially saw someone who came across as caring. Explained I would be on a pathway of care. I would see a good physio who would put a plan in motion for me, that I would be given the help I need after failed surgery. Utter garbage. I had to chase and then received a physio appointment where I was told to do what I was already doing. No pathway. No plan. Just seek mental health help if pain is too much. I wish I had never attended, waste of petrol, waste of time off work. I have complex pain now due to issues, it wasn't even discussed. Pain management is basically go away and mange it yourself.

  5. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stephen Fox - Posted on 31 October 2023

I visited the department, after not being able to get a GP appointment for over a week. I was experiencing a Asthma attack and not able to control it. Check in reception OK, triaged after about 15 minutes. The waiting area was full. Saw after 2:30hrs, which I know is far less than a Hospital A&E unit. Staff brilliant, despite me feeling I had developed a chest infection, I was thoroughly examined, chest infection confirmed, medication prescribed. Feel a bit guilty about using this facility as I feel more could be done by my GP's but it's reassuring to know it's there. Thanks.

  8. Review titled Excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Devine - Posted on 09 April 2023

My experience as a day case patient in the orthopaedic suite was really good. The ward sister, staff nurses, health carers and theatre staff were all very professional, friendly and supportive. My stay was morning only however I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity, nothing was too much trouble. These ladies and gentlemen work so hard and in sometimes difficult circumstances, but keep going, caring for all patients that come through their care. They earn every penny and more. Thankyou very much to all NHS staff

  9. Review titled Left unsure as to what is next

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 December 2023

Saw the pain management team. Really nice caring individual in first appointment. I have multiple issues caused by failed surgery. He explained I was on a pathway and I had hope for the first time in ages. Said I would see physio etc and I would have help dealing with the aftermath of the surgery. A couple of months later I get another appointment. Was in for less than ten mins, different person. I was basically told i could choose one pain and one pain only. I felt totally lost by this, chose back and basically on a 9 month + waiting list for steroid injections. No physio mentioned, no pathway of care. Just wait. I am doing exercises at home, whether they are the right ones or I am doing them correctly I don't know. I went home shocked, the clinic wasn't what I was lead to believe. I phoned back the following Monday, asking about what happens with physio and other pain issues, was told the physio was off long term sick...and that's it. No further update, no where do I go instead, what's next. Just wait for the back injections... I had such high hopes of actually getting help, I should have known better

Firstly, thank you for your kind words about the member of staff who you have described as being "really nice" and "caring". I am sorry that your next appointment with the service was not as positive. I cannot begin to imagine how upsetting and frustrating that must be for you. 10. Review titled Wasted Time

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 March 2023

I attended UTC following a fall my child has resulting in him going over on his ankle. In which he could not apply fully pressure, his foot was swollen, he was complaining it hurt, couldn't put shoes on and at some points was screaming out in pain. His foot was also cracking and had popped before taking him in, following advice from 111. The waiting time is not the issue, and I fully understand the severity of the doctors strikes. My child would not be here if it wasn't for the NHS. My issue here is we were triaged and told he would be going to have an xray and to wait in the waiting area. I even questioned how they xray a hyperactive toddler. All fine. An hour and a half later, his name gets called again. I thought we were going to the xray so I had my partner wait in the waiting area while we went. To then have no mention of an xray and be triaged again and told to just give him paracetamol. I was made to feel as though I shouldn't have taken him, and I was just wasting time. When actually they wasted their own time wasted, but mine also. As well as other patients in the waiting area who were waiting to be triaged. I was advised not to feed my child before attending. So I didn't. So a very hungry toddler, an unnecessary extra 1.5 hour wait and told to just take paracetamol, despite being told he was having an xray.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent visit to our Urgent Treatment Centre. I am so sorry that your experience of our service has been such a poor one. I was particularly disappointed to note that you were made to feel as though you should not have taken your child to the department. I cannot begin to imagine how upsetting and frustrating that must have been. Please be assured that what you have described is not the person-centred approach to patient care that all of our staff aim to achieve. I have forwarded your feedback onto the managers of the department as it is important we learn from our patients/relatives/visitors experiences. If you would like us to look further into this for you, please do contact our PALS team on myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net. Thank you again and I hope your child is recovering well.
