  1. Review titled Amazing service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I felt inclined to leave a review for the maternity care I have received whilst giving birth within the last week. From start to finish the care was impeccable, I felt valued and listened to at all times by midwives and HCA’s especially because I felt skeptical due to being a woman from an ethic background where sometimes certain health cues during child birth are missed. These women went above and beyond for me and made sure me and baby were safe and checked over thoroughly. The unit was spotless and welcoming as well as accommodating. The community midwifery after services were great too as well as all of the antenatal care I received through out as well. This experience has really allowed me to put my faith back into the NHS after not having good experiences in the past and I really appreciate those who are able to make that happen and hope they continue to thrive and pour that care into others.

Staff on the Mayhill unit were all brilliant. Very friendly and attentive. Nurses checked on me regularly and were very approachable and friendly. Drs were all nice and put me at easy before my surgery. Overall a positive experience thanks to the amazing staff

  3. Review titled Great care

I visited the Same Day Emergency Care at Gloucester hospital last Saturday with my 91 year old mother and we couldn't have got better care. Both the nurses and Dr's gave their time and expertise always with good humour and a smile. As a retired nurse I appreciate the strains that the NHS is under but this team were able to look after my Mum without letting that show. Thank you so much.

  4. Review titled Dereliction of duty of care.

Rated 1 star out of 5

In brief. Referred to dermatology regarding large facial cyst by GP. Received an appointment fo 7 months later. Attended the appointment at the Aspen Centre. I was expecting to have cyst removed, but after a cursory examination i was told no I'd have to go on the waiting list. After asking waiting times, was told months to a year but it was down to the booking office. Told dermatologist that the cyst would have grown expediently by that time. They agreed but said after triarge they deemed it non essential. I told them I was going to be forced to remove it myself. I outlined my plan. They slightly correct my procedure for self operation and added I didn't have any anaesthetic which would be a problem. I was then advised to wait for them to operate and not self operate. Told them I had no option. I was then told I could go private ! ! I then asked why eight years ago with exactly the same cyst, I was operated on by my GP 2 months after the original GP diagnosis. Couldn't tell me why. In essence the waiting times now to have a large facial cyst removed is totally unacceptable. This situation is evidently a dereliction of duty of care by an organisation I've paid into all my working life. The evidence is in the timescale I've been given.

  5. Review titled They get the job done -somehow

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Attended for emergency surgery and all went well until someone decide to involve themselves in the process. As they hadn't checked on things properly i had to undergo another horribly painful groin exam (having had 2 already) carried out very clumsily, only to find that things were already in process for my operation. Not even an apology. Later when i said my post operative pain levels were causing problems where i might not be able to function alone at home i was fobbed and told thats the way it is. i was told i would receive proper pain management, which amounted to a load of various painkillers but no advice on how go about things (such managing the scar area etc) The whole experience left me wandering if the left hand knows where the right hand is, or indeed if patient care is the highest priority

  7. Review titled A & E shocking system

Rated 1 star out of 5

I recently consulted an out-of-hours gp due to excruciating pain extending from my lower back to my legs, indicative of possible sciatica. The doctor, recognizing the severity, referred me for a scan to explore potential spinal issues. Unfortunately, the only option available for obtaining the scan was through a&e. After a 10-hour wait, I was seen again by a doctor who essentially repeated the examination conducted by the gp. Surprisingly, the decision was made to forget the recommended scan, and I was prescribed painkillers instead. My experience at Gloucester Hospital was disheartening, as my initial visit was solely intended for a scan, which ultimately did not occur. In that case, I should have given painkillers in the first place and not stayed in a&e. System is shocking!

  8. Review titled Childrens A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We had to visit on a very busy Friday evening at 5pm with our 3 year old who had an extremely high temp of 40.1. We were triaged in 15 mins max, and saw a duty doctor within the hour. Medication for a bacterial infection was dispensed and we left in just over an hour. All staff were lovely. There was squash and biscuits for the children and toys/books which we saw being regularly disinfected. I wasn’t aware this hospital had a dedicated kids A&E, and despite 2 packed waiting rooms I was very impressed. Thank you! Worth the extra 10mins drive over warwick A&E if your on the border like us!

Saw a doctor at Gloucester Royal early January for a biopsy. Three weeks later still haven't received results. Out of my mind with worry, told I would be contacted within two weeks. Faster results please!

  10. Review titled Excellent care and kindness

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Claire - Posted on 06 February 2024

After several hospitalisations with acute pancreatitis, I had an emergency cholecystectomy ( gallbladder removal) a week ago. I cannot thank the consultants and the staff enough for their kindness and consideration, making a huge effort to protect me due to my ongoing cancer treatment and very low neutrophil count. Making sure I had a single side room , both when I was admitted to Emergency Surgical Unit ward 5a on emergency with another episode of acute pancreatitis , and also Ward 4a , down to the actual surgery in the wonderful Mayhill Day surgery unit where once again, I was admitted into a side room to await my surgery. Everyone From the surgeon, anaesthesists and recovery staff to the nurses on the Mayhill unit and in the Emergency Surgical Unit ward 5b , I was treated with the utmost care and kindness. And the wonderful staff nurse and healthcare assistant in the discharge lounge who also went that extra mile to unsure my safety. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.
