  1. Review titled Very patient and not rushed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 18 April 2024

My mother had an appointment for an eye test and to see what aids would help her as she has glaucoma and had a cataract operation recently. She was seen on time for her appointment and was not rushed at all whilst having her eyes tested or choosing aids to help her. She came away happier than I have seen her for a long time and she felt more confident that there is help available for her. We cannot thank you enough for all your help and kindness

  2. Review titled Great Care

From calling 111 for my child with a high fever, to an appointment in walk in at Cheltenham A&E the care was fantastic. The initial phone call to being discharged within 4 Hrs was a superb service. Thank you to the whole team.

  3. Review titled Could do better

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 March 2024

It started with the appointment letter having no map or information leaflet about the procedure. Eventually got to the hospital to find the parking area cramped with uneven appalling road surface. No clear signs on the outside of the building. Found an extremely helpful lady in the shop who was heading in the direction needed to go. Took nearly 10 minutes in an absolute maze of a building. Greeted by reception team who gave a form to complete. Bearing in mind the waiting area is full of patients who by this stage are "nil by mouth" for most of the procedures taking place there a member of staff walked through the waiting room calling to colleagues in the admin room "would anyone like a chocolate". The nurse who took my consent and checked my details kept asking if the "leaflet" had explained everything. I think I told her maybe five times I had not received an information leaflet. Luckily for me I've had the procedure several times before so knew what to expect. Once in the room for the procedure, it was a very tired, very cluttered room with very poor internet reception so that the consultant found it extremely difficult to locate past clinic letters so I was laid on the bed for quite sometime before things happened. Throat spray was administered, prior to the procedure the consultant had told me I would receive pain relief as well as sedation, I can hand on heart say no such pain relief was administered and during the procedure I was in a great deal of pain and tried to raise my arm to try and get them to stop so I could compose myself as I was in floods of tears. Once the torture had stopped I was asked a couple of questions then wheeled out of the room on the bed. I had literally been in the recovery area less than 5 minutes before a member of staff came to check that I was ready to leave, I sat up, went very dizzy and they said I could stay a little longer. Another maybe 5 minutes went past they came back and I was popped onto a chair, given a drink and a biscuit which I ate whilst they called for my lift. I was asked if I wanted my spouse with me whilst the outcome was explained and I said no it was fine. So I was literally read what it said on the sheet with no explanations. I then left and thankfully met by my spouse in the waiting area and we found our way back to the carpark. I left thinking this is probably the worst of all the endoscopies I've ever had, in the shabbiest of settings.

I had an endoscopy appointment on 30 March 24 with an arrival time of 0800, we got there early at 0740 and were immediately given "paperwork" to complete, then I got called in for "observations" BP, sats etc, I was called in for my Endoscopy at 0810 had the throat spray and my "bite piece" inserted then the Endoscope went in, painless✅ a little discomfort but nothing more and kept fully informed by the excellent staff, I was out by 0825 then a cup of tea, biscuits and a copy of my observation report and I was home in Gloucester by 0905✅ Absolutely superb! Service by our wonderful NHS staff, my thanks go out to you all, a big thank you from me ❤️👍😉😎

  5. Review titled The most disgusting care imaginable.

Rated 1 star out of 5

My Husband and I have had the worst experience ever while he has been under the care of Cheltenham General, There is no care, He had major surgery The first week in February and had a follow up book for the last week in March. A few days before he received a call cancelling it. After hours on the phone we have now been told he wont be seen until the end of may. In total 14 weeks since surgery this is unacceptable no one has checked he is ok and how he is healing. My advice is never have any treatment at the urology in Cheltenham they simply don't care they are happy to cut you open but then your on your own .

  6. Review titled Couldn't careless attitude.

Given the wrong information about which ward my Husband would go to after surgery, I was told he was ready to go to the ward at 1.20pm he was still in recovery at 6.05pm told there were no beds available staff at the ward he was due to go to were very rude and dismissive told we probable wont get to see him today. he has been given no information about how the surgery went, disgusting way to treat patients and their families. He was given nothing to eat all day and no food was available on the ward apart from a dried up cheese sandwich which was inedible.

  7. Review titled Information Recorded

The nurse recorded my comments incorrectly on the referral letter. I found her unhelpful unsympathetic and over riding. Not interested in another department misinformation on the referral. As a cancer sufferer it is important to record the correct information.

  8. Review titled Back to Square One

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by SightforSoreEyes - Posted on 08 February 2024

2.2 years on the waiting list for Cornea eye surgery. Had at last after prompting them by letter, all my pre op measurements done on 3 Jan 2024. Follow up today - 8 Feb. (Delayed due to Doctors strike). More of the same tests done today, then a wait of 1.5 hours to see a junior doctor who basically asked me to start from scratch with what were my symptoms? (I was there for my pre op assessment or so I had been told on 3 Jan) Basically no clue who I was and why I was there. Clearly did not check my notes. Eventually upgraded via Corneal Fellow to Consultant who treated me fairly and correctly, answering questions and so forth. Then said I needed to be seen in 8 weeks by him and to book directly in the department there and then. (To avoid falling out of the loop to the external booking office) Tried this at the reception desk. Only to be told by the officious jobs worth clerk that the 'computer said no' - it was requested for 3 months, (and therefore had to go out to the central booking office to start again). I can only presume an obvious error written in by one of the two other doctors in the room who seemed to be taking notes over the computer while the consultant was speaking to me. Clerk was having none of it, could not even be bothered to check for the error (and the department was not busy by then). Would have taken a couple of minutes, but has set me back by weeks if not months. Completely unacceptable. Staff from the various departments over two floors do not seem to have a clue as to the progress of individual patients. Every time I attend it's like starting over again, like Groundhog day - you really couldn't make it up.

  9. Review titled Results taking too long

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a CT angiogram 6 weeks ago following referral to the rapid chest clinic. I still Have not had my results having been told it would be 2 to 3 weeks. Ringing the dept a message says ring Gp, they too are unhappy as they can only ring the same number and get the same message . I feel creating this much anxiety in someone being investigated following cardiac disease symptoms is unacceptable. Please don’t do the investigations if you lack the staff to analyse the results and give out inaccurate information about time to get results.
