  1. Review titled Consultant Never Showed Up

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Emily - Posted on 18 April 2024

I am having an operation in 6 days time. I was due to meet with the consultant this morning. As I waited and waited half an hour past the hour she was due, another woman who had been waiting patiently, asked at the desk for the same consultant - she said she'd been telephoned the night before and asked to attend. The staff said that the consultant had been on call during the night and wouldn't be attending but we could see one of her colleagues. I said I was promised to see the consultant who would be operating. The other woman said the same. We both walked out. I cannot believe that a consultant would be on call on the evening before she has a clinic; so clearly either she had no intention of attending the clinic or Uclh operate on an ad hoc basis and she may not turn up for my operation next week. It's really quite appalling that the Nhs [note, this site does not allow words 'all in capital letters'!) do not allow one to name surgeons as these kind of people should be called out. Having an operation and still no idea what to expect; all questions remain unanswered; junior doctors provide conflicting responses. I would never, ever, advise anyone to be recommended to Uclh.

  2. Review titled the best care you can receive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have a heart problem for which for years I have had to go to hospitals in other cities. This time I fell in Uclh and I was in the Amu from the 22nd to the 27th and I really leave calm and completely well and I am sure that they care about my health in I especially thank a nursing student a.n. who was very attentive to our well-being, completely attentive, quick and who cares with dedication, respect and vocation. I hope you will soon be a great professional with respect and cordial thanks to the entire medical and care team. Luciano Montoya

  3. Review titled No Informed Consent. Bad Management. Breach of Data Protection

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 April 2024

I have a procedure in the vascular department at the end of the month. I have asked for information on aftercare and been provided with conflicting information from a junior doctor (who told me he was not qualified to do the procedure) and a senior nurse. I have asked to speak with the consultant but no consultant is available. I was told the procedure I need was the only one UCLH do (which turned out not to be true); I have been provided with no information and have had to turn to the internet. This means that on the day of my procedure I will meet the consultant for the first time and have to give my consent (but not an informed consent) having been waiting for an operation for over a year. It is scandalous. Plus I need an pre-op meeting which has been cancelled 4 times and which only asks menial questions. I have been told if I do not show up it will cost the NHS £167 and I won't have my operation; yet it has cost me hundreds of pounds with each cancellation. Plus today I am told that my notes were shared among staff with another patient (by mistake). This is the last time I will ever go to UCLH. The hospital is a sad but serious joke.

  4. Review titled Admin is Shocking

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Twice the department has failed to make follow-up appointments following a procedure, despite, on one occasion, the person responsible being asked multiple times to authorise it, then going on holiday for a fortnight without bothering to do it.

  5. Review titled Fantastic Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 February 2024

I went along a couple of weeks ago with a bad pain in my stomach. I was taken in, in good time and a hernia (albeit not needing emergency surgery) was diagnosed. The junior doctor in particular was fantastic. I also had great service from the Registrar and the Consultant as well as the nurses and their assistants. What a lovely bunch. Five star service

  6. Review titled Great team that are polite and helpful

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I have been on the waiting list for a scan for a surgery coming up. long story short, there was a back and forth of miscommunications and admin errors with my booking that made it extremely frustrating for me to get it booked in. I ended up having my scan booked 4 months post its original date due to the staffs error. Calling daily got me no where as I was constantly told there was no earlier availability for me to get my scan done. It took me to come in person to the imaging department to which I was greeted with friendly and helpful service. I was seen by a gentleman who got my the scan I needed on my desired date, very friendly and helpful. Really appreciated his help

  7. Review titled Organisation for lesion removal

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 January 2024

I was given an emergency appointment for a dermatology lesion removal on Sunday 14January. Since the place where the operation would take place was not given on MyCare app 1 assumed it would be I the dermatology department but they had no knowledge of it. I am disabled and sent walking to places where it might be and given the wrong directions several times. After an hour I sat down in wheelchair at the dermatology entrance and ask someone to find out where my appointment would be and asked someone to find out where my appointment was and take me there in a wheelchair. Turned out, turned out to be in the ENT department. My complaint rests on the lack of communication on the computers and the lack of knowledge of some of the staff who didn’t take into account my disability and having trouble walking. Eventually, the operation was carried out very satisfactorily

  9. Review titled Amazing staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anthea Anka - Posted on 13 September 2023

My son had a surgery yesterday at University College London Hospital T 12 south - the staff were absolutely incredible (every last one of them, from the surgeons to the nurses to the orderlies). My son and I were both in awe at their energy levels (utterly tireless!) and how helpful/friendly everyone was. They made what could've been a very tough experience that much easier. Our thanks goes out to everyone.

  10. Review titled Great Hospital, one teensy thing though.....

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ged - Posted on 25 August 2023

I have used this hospital's services for decades and even in the hard 80's it had dedicated staff who went above and beyond. It has improved 1000 fold since then and this despite the kicking the NHS is getting from inept and self-serving politicians. Had occasion to go there yesterday and just wanted to leave a comment that I hope staff will pick up on. It's more feedback than a complaint: I had a 2 hour wait ( which is actually great for a Central London Hospital) and while waiting to be called in to the treatment area ( Triage was done almost immediately ) i was a little put out that staff were coming out with masks on when shouting out peoples names. I am deaf and have to rely on lipreading to see if it is me that is being called and it is impossible to do so through a mask. Even the staff not wearing masks came out said a name very quickly without repeating it so I couldn't check to see if it was my name if I had missed the start of their call. The staff here are excellent and would recommend this place in a heartbeat. I just wanted to bring this to your attention as other deaf / hard of hearing people will use this hospital and it would help immensely if staff could keep this in the back of their minds. Thanks for all the care throughout the years. I'm lucky to have you as my local hospital Sincerly
