  3. Review titled Glaucoma clinic

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Visit here a few time a year with my 91 year old mother. The clinic waiting time is generally approx three hours. Too many patients, not enough staff. Also no provision to see a frail, ill 91 year old any quicker than a 21 year old. Staff are good, but the wait times are dismal.

A&E will only see patients who live north of the river. They identified I had an eye emergency but turned me away and told me to go to my local hospital even though Moorfields is closer. What kind of A&E turns people away because they live in a different borough? Irresponsible. I'm lucky to still have my sight but no thanks to them. Avoid

  5. Review titled Very efficient and very kind

Odd eye symptoms. Staff were all very kind and helpful from the Security guards, Receptionists to the triage nurses, eye nurse and the Doctor. I was very anxious but the eye nurse in particular was so professional and reassuring. Not allowed to name her so I hope she reads this review. Hospital is very clean

  6. Review titled Very kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I got a diagnosis of eye cancer and I needed some operations on my eye to get rid of the cancer. The treatment sounded horrifying and so this was quite worrying for me. So, first of all I want to tell people who might be scared by the idea of the treatment that they need, that they should not worry at all if they are going to Moorfields. The staff all make it their business to help you as much as they can, they are all very kind and will do anything to look after you. You can rely on them. If you have to stay in the hospital there are nice showers and the staff can let you have a towel if you don't have one. The food is fine, it's not special in any way but I found it to be absolutely ok. If you like you can order some food in and get it left at reception, then the staff can be persuaded to bring it up! But you don't need to because the hospital food is enough and ok. At night it's noisy outside because it's London, so bring earplugs, and a sleeping mask would be a good idea as well if your eyes allow. The hospital is very clean, the equipment is very modern (as far as I know from looking at it). The staff are very interested in what they are doing and in their patients and they are very communicative as well. They were very happy to explain everything and to answer all my questions. The surgeon and the anesthetist both took great pains to treat me as a human being and to discuss what they were going to do with me. I felt that they were very busy and important people who related to me as another human and treated me very well. The treatment I got was very carefully and deftly done. Again, thank you. I agree with some other comments that I have read about the appointments and communication for clinics and so on. I think that there could be some improvement in sending out emails and letters. For example I did not receive anything in writing before my operation. On the other hand the specialist nurses proactively contacted me and spoke with me on an individual basis several times. This was the important stuff, all about the operation and treatment, and I thank them for that. However, the trivia of admin was a bit hit and miss compared to my experience with my local district hospital that sent me SMS's the day before appointments to make sure that I didn't forget. Traveling to Moorfields is a little difficult as it serves such a vast area of the country and being in central London, accommodation is rather pricey. I am lucky that I had the means to deal with this, but it might be good for there to be some thought of support for people coming from a long way away who aren't as rich as me. So - it's a specialist hospital that seems focused on a personal touch and on excellent treatment more than anything else. It's hard to find anything to criticize in that thinking. My thanks and best wishes to the staff.

  7. Review titled Not supported by staff

    by defenderrr53 - Posted on 15 June 2023

I just tried to book transport for my mother. She is 89, has gone blind in the last few months, is deaf, is in a wheelchair and suffers from dementia and depression. She has an urgent appointment which we worked really hard to get for her as her Glaucoma surgery was a failure and her pressure is at 40. They did the transport assessment over the phone (45 minutes on hold later) and apparently as she has her own wheelchair she can get there herself. So what, she can push her wheelchair from Essex to Moorfields City Road for an 8.30am appointment? I found the the staff on the phone to be awful and I couldn't help but lose my temper with them, which I am not proud of. It was like talking to unprofessional robots. What sort of NHS is this and how do you treat the elderly that paved the way for you people? It's disgusting, in my view. Mum will miss her appointment now, which could lead to severe pressure issues as there is no way she can get there. I am disgusted with the staff and processes I dealt with.

Went in with badly swollen. Turned out to be shingles. Was seen by efficient, friendly and professional staff. Careful attention. Left with the medicine I needed. Could not have been better.

Attended this hospital on the 3rd January on a referral from The Moorfields - Croydon Branch. Was met by a lady at Reception in Vitreo Retinal department who efficiently dealt with the paperwork. In the time that I was there I was dealt with utter professionalism and courtesy. Excellent treatment, can’t fault anything. Whole process explained very well, post surgery care was brilliant. Many thanks to all staff involved.
