  1. Review titled Great kindness and a cheerful approach

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 February 2024

I'm a volunteer who takes patients to hospital and other medical appointments. I took a gentleman, 87 years of age, in for an MRI scan late on Saturday afternoon. Despite being disappointed that she and her colleague hadn't seen any patients that afternoon ( they had failed to turn up for appointments...how frustrating and costly is that?!!), the clinician was friendly, caring, funny, and very respectful of her patient, taking notice of his disabilities. Both he and I were very impressed by the two ladies care and attention, especially as he was a little worried about the procedure . I wanted to highlight this, in contrast to many uncomplimentary reviews that are written, usually based on the delays in A & E . The NHS is under huge pressure, as we all should acknowledge and it is no surprise that there will be waiting time involved, and occasional poor attention or approach by staff. It shouldn't be forgotten that we might all let standards slip if we were overworked, tired, on a treadmill of shifts..and then not paid at a level appropriate to our life saving skills.

  2. Review titled Feel like a nuisance

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2024

When elderly patients are in a ward it would be helpful for relatives to know who they can ask for information and updates. At present, it seems to be a system of referring you to staff who view you as a nuisance for asking them. We are only asking out of concern for people we love. We understand that staff are busy and under pressure but some compassion and appreciation for how worried and concerned we are would go a long way.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Someone very close to me has been referred to see the neurologist at gewith what is expected to be a very serious diagnosis , this referral was done in May 2023 the appointment has arrived for 17th april 2024 yes 2024, you cannot begin to imagine the stress this has caused, I just find it unbelievable that something so potentially serious has an 11 month wait, I have alway though ge we’re one of the better hospitals but maybe the care has gone from there too.

  4. Review titled Needs improvement.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Despite so many brilliant staff, who are supportive of the National Health Service and its future, I could not recommend this hospital without many changes. During my stay at the hospital, I believe that I was misdiagnosed and I could not understand the main Consultant and other Managers. Glad to be home and independent.

I attended the A&E department this morning at 8:30am with, it turns out a fractured Clavicle bone, I was assessed within 30 minutes and sent to X ray where the diagnosis was confirmed, all was explained what I could and couldn’t do and a follow up appointment was arranged, I was out by 9:30, excellent service thank you.

  6. Review titled Staff were excellent.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by dawn - Posted on 21 March 2023

Called in for an ultrasound, external and internal: a potentially worrying/ uncomfortable/ embarrassing experience. The appointment was in the evening which was very convenient, no waiting, straight in. The two members of staff were fantastic: reassuring, professional , but with a friendly and understanding manner. The procedure was therefore not stressful. I was very impressed. Having had some appalling experiences elsewhere it was a relief to be treated so well

What a fantastic, proactive and empathetic team. Every single one of the team a credit to the hospital. I felt safe,,listened to and was never left feeling I was asking too much. The calm nature of the unit/staff made the experience easier to go through. You are all amazing.

  8. Review titled Incredible staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sian Leggatt - Posted on 05 March 2023

I had to go to the Urgent care unit after coughing up blood; reception staff, clinical care staff, nurses, x-ray, doctors and consultant… every single person I encountered was kind, patient and helpful. I’m not very good at having bloods done so when they couldn’t find a vein, I panicked for the worst. The staff were incredible. So patient and understanding, tried many times all while being sympathetic to my phobia and giving me simple tricks to help them. It ended up being a consultant inserting a cannula but even my assigned doctor stayed with me to make sure I was ok and to reassure me, sharing my relief and gratitude when it was in. I knew it was what needed to happen but everyone totally understood my emotional responses and took them in their stride with good grace and patience. Thankfully it wasn’t an overnight stay and even my discharge nurse removed my cannula while keeping me calm. They explained about my prescription and even advised local pharmacies open late on a Sunday. Aside from the needle phobia, the staff kept me up to date and totally in the loop on why everything was happening and the different outcomes that could occur with pneumonia. Total transparency that kept me at ease and reassured the whole time. A horrible situation for me was made much easier thanks to the incredible staff. Thanks so much!

  9. Review titled Terrible after care

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2023

Had general in theatre. All staff before and in theatre were fantastic. Having laugh and banter. Really put me at ease. OMG til i got to after care on a ward which was worst experience ever had. After a camera up and down was left with migraine from hell. No one listened to me as i knew how I could solve it. Could hardly open my eyes was put in a half cubicle on a trolley in an open untied gown and left. Other people on that ward had had operations and had been there a few days or longer. Sturn nasty nurse came in, couldnt open my eyes at this point so couldnt see who it was and said you need to drink, lie down and go to sleep. Spoke to me like I was a toddler. I couldnt lie down it made my head worse and head would no way let me sleep. She spoke to me like a child at school. She gave me some tramadol which on an empty stomach just make me sick anyway. When i was sick curtain was pulled round and I was just left. Never felt so neglected. Had to ask twice for a sandwich as diabetic and had nothing to eat for over 24 hours. Could hear all other parients eating a dinner on plates. I was just left behind the curtain. One nurse did turn lights down slightly by my bed to stop glare and i could then here the same very sturn nurse say who has dimmed this light someone could have an accident and turned it back up. No way was it affecting anyone to have an accident. It was only the glare turned down. Couldnt even try n get off trolly as was on a drip and had gown all undone. After 2nd time asking got a sandwich, at this point so sick couldnt eat it so wrapped it and put it in my bag and poured some of water into my sick bowel which id been sick in which was on trolly still full from throwing up. Thought if they think ive eaten and drank i can go home and cure my head which I tried to tell them what I could take to cure it, and wouldnt listen. If not I was going to sign myself out. Coukdnt sit there on a trolley in agony any longer. My candula fell out. Was shouting nurses, no one came couldnt find any button to press. Blood pouring out my hand. Eventually caught a nurses eye through side window onto corridor. When she seen state i was in then she panicked. I had to force myself to get clothes out my bag and pretend I was ok to be let home. I was just about to ring my husband as I was signing myself out when a nurse came with papers and said you can go home now. Had to hold off being sick again til i got in car as they would want me to stay and that was no way happening. was not stopping in that ward any longer. Ive never felt so neglected and spoken to by one particular person like a child as though she couldnt be bothered and I was a nuisance I was there and gave me tablets just to make me sleep as to say one patient less to deal with. From what i can gather without seeing her was one of senior nurses she was one that seemed to have the say in things. If my head wasnt banging and I didnt feel so sick that nurse would have had a few words off me
