    At the weekend the entire Distributed Television system went down across the entire hospital. No channels were available between Saturday teatime and Sunday lunchtime. This left patients without anything to do in their bedrooms and nothing to distract themselves with when feeling low. A report was logged by the duty site manager and as a result of this, staff across a number of departments worked together to diagnose the fault (a power failure to a piece of equipment) and then rectify the issue as speedily as possible. Because of their hard work and effort, we only had to go without TV for a few hours and we were kept up to date with what was happening via patients intranet (theHUB). I would like to thank all the staff involved over the weekend and let them know their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

    Thank you for this post. I recognise the benefits that the distributed TV has for patients in different ways and how disruptive this can be when we experience the unexpected issues. I would like to express my thanks to Adrian Morris (Security Intelligence Analyst) for his actions to engage directly with on-call IT. Adrian's on site work in Rampton on Sunday found a fix to the issue which enabled TV's to be back up and running over the weekend, with is much appreciated. Recognition must also go to Site Manager Antony Wragg who escalated the concerns supported the actions to be taken. I have asked James Smith and Adrian Morris to work on an escalation and action process to help guide managers should be face out of hours problems in future.

  2. Review titled sour milk giving out

    On a regular basis the kitchens are sending sour milk to the ward this happens more than once a week. this gets brought up on the food group regular and the kitchens manager said three months a go that they would change the milk back to non plastic cartons this has not been done. here on Eden ward patients are upset with this and it can cause confrontation with staff when milk can not be changed when kitchen staff have gone home so please can you change milk back to this. thank you.

  3. Review titled CQC Inspection Report

    Today, we received (finally after 7 months since the last inspection) the CQC inspection report. I have read the report, concentrating mainly on what applies to our ward, which is Grampian, the deaf services ward. I must be honest and say that what the CQC has said about our ward is a load of rubbish. I am wracking my brains to try to be civil and choose my language carefully but I am exasperated at the report, highlighting failures at Grampian. I would like to say that the ward manager particularly, has done a fantastic job in promoting equality on the ward and to ensure that our needs and safety are met. He goes out of the way to ensure that we receive the support that we need in order to function both on the ward and off the ward too. The staff on the ward are all learning to use BSL to communicate with us and some have achieved goods levels of qualification in order to do so. The CQC has lacked insight and have passed judgement unfairly and I will be sure to address that issue when they come to do the next inspection. Rant over.   4. Review titled Access to Applications on made purple

    I feel I need to write on here to express my sincere thanks to the I.T department but also security too for allowing us to access the made purple application. It has proved to be an invaluable source of information to us (the patients). I browse on it every day and have also ordered, via family, products that are available to us. Please keep up the good work.

  5. Review titled Christmas on Eden Ward

    I would like to thank staff and patients, ward manager, and ward clerk on Eden Ward for making Christmas a good one. If it was not for the good spirit of the patients and staff then it would not of felt like Christmas. Some patients did decorations with little of what we had and patients saved prizes for competitions as this year higher management stopped all funds for craft and Christmas trees luckily one was donated by a charity and Eden ward still won the decorations comp. Secondly the food over Christmas sounded good on paper but when it came they sent down wrong food and poor food was sent to the ward. The only meal that U thought good was new years day dinner the buffet. So once again thank you to Eden ward staff, patients, ward manager and ward clerk, service manager and Quality matron for doing your best to make Christmas Christmas. And just to say to high management that they could at least of come to the ward to wish patients and staff a Merry Christmas which would of cost nothing but would of meant a lot.

    Good afternoon Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. It is great to hear how the ward community came together to ensure that Christmas was a good experience for you. I am sorry to hear about the food, I will ensure the details are passed on to our colleagues in facilities. The Christmas Tree was in fact donated by our MITIE colleagues and in this time of such financial difficulties it was very well received. The Trust also managed to secure the Hospital some charitable funds which enabled small gifts to be donated to ward areas to use over the festive period.     I would like to applaud the IT department and also security too. I have been using the made purple application for quite a few months now. I find it really invaluable, we can access a whole range of apps/websites via the made purple platform. I would like to thank the people responsible for enabling this to happen, when it goes hospital wide, everyone will be using it non stop as it gives us the access to browse things that we have never browsed before. It is an eye opener and a real treat too. Thank you.

    That's really positive news, thank you for sharing. The system is proving to be a great resource for patient information and my thanks reach out to both James Smith and Kerry Corr for their drive with patient technology. We can clearly see that this system is being accessed regularly by patients which is great.

  7. Review titled delivering patient’s Christmas Presents

    I would like to thank the staff at Chiltern for their hard work in processing and delivering patient’s Christmas Presents. I have personally witnessed them walking the site in all weathers to deliver the presents sent in by post. It is a big job altering patients’ property and they must have worked really hard to ensure that all patients receive their presents before the Holidays.

  8. Review titled The transition from high to low secure

    From the age of 14 I have been in secure prisons as general prisons were not suitable for me. Time at home was not the best for me then either. My drinking increased my mental health issues. Since my early teens I was in and out of police stations and courts. I was put in prison for my own and public safety. I could not cope in prison as I felt too vulnerable with my own issues and other people's issues. I became increasingly unwell, continually self harming. I struggled to reflect in prison as my frustrations got the better of me. After this I was transferred to a private hospital. My medications made me feel worse and I was very unwell. I felt overwhelmed by all of this. The team there supported my with my therapies but I became increasingly aggressive, assaulting staff and constantly being in seclusion, damaging property. I was on 4:1 at one point. This led to my transfer to Rampton due to my violence. I was handcuffed on my journey and I thought this was the worst thing that could've happened. I started on the admissions ward and this was a big experience for me. I was agitated and nervous of what was to come. I slowly settled in with the staff. I was constantly reassured and this really helped me. I participated in sessions and saw my named nurses and doctors. I eventually got transferred to a different ward after completing all my therapies. I continued to get involved with therapies and kept myself busy. I lost my father around this period and it was very hard for me. After around 5 or 6 years a tribunal panel released me for discharge. I was transferred to St. Andrew's which is a medium secure. It was a therapeutic community. I became more interactive with my mum and gained things such as S17 leave. I then got transferred to a locked rehabilitation in another private hospital in Shirebrook. I settled in there, however I quickly became over stimulated and everything became too much for me to handle with all the activities they provided. My mental health quickly started to decline and I couldn't cope. I was then transferred to Well Road Centre. I assaulted staff and damaged property when I first arrived due to a quick transition during COVID-19. This was a very stressful time for me. One day I realised this was time for me to grow up. I struggled with the death of my grandmother and now my mother has cancer also. This just motivates to become a better person everyday. I have come so far and my mental health issues bother me less each day. I work with the team to make myself suitable for the community. I have attended social committee here at Wells Road as well as attending conferences. I managed to attend IMPACT conference whole day with the team, the W/M has received an outstanding award and I was allowed to receive this award with the W/M. I really appreciate that I was able to attend this. All this is helping me move on. I go on home leave twice a week and engaging more with occupational therapy. I didn't think I'd ever make it to the place I am now. I never thought I'd have achieved what I have. The staff believed in me and motivated me to move on and enjoy the rest of my life with my mum. The ward staff are so proud of how far I've come.

    I disagree with the latest report about Deaf Services. I didn't like staff that we knew well and that can sign being moved to other wards, and then we have staff that can't sign. Recently we have had alot of staff that can sign well, level 1 and level 2 BSL, and we now have Deaf staff that work here and provide us with good communication. We have Interpreters at weekends, and in the evenings. They are always booked for medical appointments, purple visits, face to face visits, and any important meetings/sessions. We can access them in the evenings to make phone calls too. The Deaf staff make the ward a much more Deaf friendly place too. The staff that work here on the ward have good attitudes towards us as Deaf patients and although most can sign, those that are new on the ward must go and learn sign language and we help them improve their skills too. We have heard that soon in the hospital the staff will have body worn cameras which will be really good, and we are happy about this as sign language is visual and so you will have evidence in areas such as patient's bedrooms, that if a patient is angry or upset in their room, the staff can go in and use sign language to calm them down and this will be recorded. Also if a patient assaults a member of staff, there will be proof of this. When the CQC came to assess Grampian Ward it was only for a short time. they didn't get a true picture of the ward environment, and at that time the hospital was short staffed, so a lot of our staff were moved to different wards. To get a real picture, they should stay here for a month at least. The staff always involve us in games like Rummikub, and pool, we do jigsaws, make christmas decorations, have film nights and all the time we are chatting with the staff in sign language. When the staff help us with our property, they use sign language, and even if the interpreters aren't here that is ok as we are able to communicate effectively with the staff at this level. On our ward, if a patient is angry, the staff usually use sign language to communicate with them to see how they are feeling. If a patient is really angry and the staff think they may assault someone, they may take them to seclusion, and then talk to them through the big window to help them calm down. They use interpreters and staff that are good at signing. The patient may only be in there for a short time, when the staff feel they have calmed down enough by talking to them in sign language. I have many more examples which I would like to explain to you, but I would like someone to come and see me face to face so I can tell you how good the Deaf Service is here on Grampian Ward. Please give me plenty of time to explain to you. A BSL Interpreter has helped me to type this is English

  10. Review titled An end to digital deprevation.

    Patients in high secure hospitals such as Rampton often find themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to technology. Patients rarely have access to state-of-the-art hardware or public websites. This can leave patients with large skill gaps when it comes to trying to gain employment once they leave the hospital and the lack of access to information on websites can result in patients not been aware of treatment options available to them or medication options. All Rampton patients now have access to the 'Journey' Network, a secure Information kiosk that offers access to government, retail, entertainment and lifestyle websites alongside information on internal matters such as access to patient policies and a reporting tool for TV issues, both of which are built into a local intranet page called 'The Hub'. One thing that I have found useful is been able to look up details of my Physical illness on both the NHS choice & medication site and the NICE website. This has allowed me to make more informed choices about my treatment and medication. Another useful feature has been the ability to report faults on the TV system really quickly, resulting in the issues been rectified sooner than usual. Patients access this system using both a Pc and a tablet. This is allowing patients to get to use modern technologies, such as touch screen etc. I am looking forward to been able to use the nationally available app called 'Patient knows best'. This will allow me further autonomy and choice when it comes to my physical healthcare. I am also looking forward to a time when 'Journey' is available to patients in their siderooms.

    Hi Thank you for taking time to send us this feedback what A great positive posting and I can tell how much you are getting from this new platform I do know in the background many people are trying hard to roll this out. The best thing to show how important this is and will be to patients is feedback.
