  1. Review titled Excellent practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have attended two appointments for physiotherapy advice/treatment at Saffron Walden Community Hospital, Radwinter Road during April 2024. On both occasions, my appointment was with alex. I would like to let you know that his advice/treatment was excellent. He was able to diagnose a complicated and unusual condition and clearly recommend a self treatment programme. I was told everything I needed to know and given the exact information I needed to resolve the issue through targeted exercises. He deserves recognition for the quality and effectiveness of his advice/treatment.

  2. Review titled Considerate and helpful

My mother spent the last few weeks of her life in the Avocet Ward. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff there. They were all very caring and kind to both my mum and the family. It was of great comfort to us to know that she was in capable and professional hands when we left her side. She passed away peacefully thanks to the staff there. Many thanks. We will always remember you all for your kindness.

  3. Review titled Fabulous local facility

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended for an ultrasound check on my kidneys and was delighted with the service I received. I was seen on time, if not even a little early. The procedure was painless and the person looking after me was entirely professional and highly competent throughout. Local small community hospitals are a great asset to the NHS and I hope they continue to prosper. Thank you Saffron Walden Community hospital.

  4. Review titled Great Service from start to finish

Rated 5 stars out of 5

On arrival I found a parking space immediately. Entered the Eye Clinic and was seen in a few moments by a friendly and professional optician who put me completely at ease and carried out my eye tests in the "blink of an eye". This was my second visit (different departments) to Saffron Walden in the month and both times the service has been exemplary. What a great team the hospital has to constantly have this level of service. They should give lessons.

Arrived for a chest x-ray at allotted time. Was immediately greeted by most friendly and professional staff who carried out x-ray and sent me on my way within 10 minutes of my appointment time. All with free parking. Who could ask for more.

  7. Review titled Physio appointment

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Saffron Walden community hospital is a lovely facility which I feel we’re lucky to access. The atmosphere is calm, quiet & spotlessly clean with friendly staff. However it’s very disturbing basic infection control mitigations seem to have been abandoned & mask wearing not encouraged in the same way Addenbrookes still does. So far with both my appointments the healthcare worker hasn’t worn a mask & even commented that I don’t need to either. All very well unless you have a vulnerable wife with chronic respiratory & blood clotting illness who as yet has managed to avoid Covid.

Thank you for your positive feedback about Saffron Walden community Hospital. The guidance for mask wearing at hospitals may vary, and some hospital sites may decide to observe different degrees of infection control measures than others after taking into account national guidance, their patient population and local circumstances. The infection control measures also change from time to time, especially if the prevalence of infectious diseases in the community changes. However, patients and hospital visitors should feel free to wear a mask if they would like to (even if it is not required by the hospital). in addition, please do ask staff to wear a mask when they are caring for you if you would feel more comfortable, and staff will be happy to oblige. Thank you again for your feedback. Patient Advice and Liaison Service cuh.pals@nhs.net

  8. Review titled Poor service

I had follow up appointment last month and the day before they telephoned me and cancelled it so the next time they could see me was yesterday. I was 15 mins early so not to keep them waiting and 45 mins later they called me through but you could hear what they were saying but couldn't see anybody and nobody reception but a sigh saying take a seat . When I got into the appointment and started to tell the person that they couldnt see inside my body to tell what was going on and I was waiting for an x-ray was asked if I had being doing the pshio i was took about 2month ago and I had said no as I had to take a week off work I was then asked if I wanted to contiue with the appoitment ? really .The patait before had been talking about her family what she had to eat the day before and just chit chat I would had thought It would be guided by the phsio so that the clinic ran on time so everybody got seen it a timely manner . And finally my next appointment is in Feb next year so it ok to have a back problem as long as you dont need phsio as they are to busy .

  9. Review titled Dismissive and rude

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Trying to get an appointment is difficult enough even with multiple referrals from GP, and there's the rude telephone staff "no you've been discharged, thanks, bye." followed by them then cutting the line off after a 40 minute wait! Extremely rude.

  10. Review titled Lovely team but impossible to contact

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2022

A few months ago I attended an ultrasound appointment at the hospital. Everything about the experience was positive: ample free parking, the staff were friendly and helpful, and I didn't have to wait around, which was a great relief! A couple of weeks ago when I was asked by my GP whether I had a preference for a hospital for an x-ray, I didn't hesitate in saying Saffron Walden. However, when I later needed to cancel my appointment, I found it impossible to reach anyone. For five days, several times a day I rang the number on my appointment letter. There is no answer phone, and the phone disconnected every time after a certain number of rings. I also tried several other hospital numbers to no avail. In the end, I was only able to cancel the appointment after contacting the secretary at my GP practice and begging her to help, but it should not have been so hard. The NHS is constantly complaining about missed appointments, so making them easier to cancel would be a simple step to reduce the problem.

Dear patient Thank you for your positive feedback about the services, staff and facilities at Saffron Walden Hospital. Your kind words will be passed to the staff and will be much appreciated. I am however sorry to learn that it was so difficult to get through when you needed to cancel an appointment. The appointments centre at Cambridge University Hospitals is working hard to recruit more staff and improve the service as it has faced some challenges recently. I am very sorry that you had such a difficult experience and thank you for your persistence in the steps you took to save the NHS money and allow another patient to use your slot. Thank you again, Head of Patient Experience pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
