My experience yesterday in a&e at nddh in the afternoon was excellent , 26/03/24 all people involved in my care were thoughtful, kind , professional and helpful. I really want you to all know I appreciated it many many thanks.

I attended a&e today for abdominal pain. After I had been triaged and had bloods taken I was told I would be given pain relief. About an hour after I arrived I saw the doctor, who also told me they would arrange some pain relief. 2 hours after I arrived I went to find someone to ask if I could have some painkillers. I was offered paracetamol. At that point I asked if the cannula I had in could be removed, I was in pain and crying and explained if I'm just going to be sat in pain I could do that at home. If the pain I had could have been treated with paracetamol I wouldn't have come to a&e. The nurse who removed my cannula then said something along the lines of "you've seen the doctor and had bloods taken, 2 hours isn't bad". I examined I had been on pain for that whole time and waiting for painkillers. I was then told that I should have told the doctor that I needed pain relief, which I had. I was treated as if I was acting extremely unreasonably and that this was my own fault for assuming I would given the pain relief I had been told I would get twice. I was told I had to sign something to discharge myself, I've no idea why as it was made clear to me that I wasn't being admitted, I just had to wait for blood results and codeine. I understand it can take a while for results to come back through, I have worked in both microbiology and biochemistry labs. If I was to be left to sit in pain waiting for results, I could that more comfortably at home laying on my sofa with a hot water bottle and calling the doc in the morning.

My 16 month old became ill whilst on holiday. 111 call resulted in a first responder arriving and then the ambulance crew. He was assessed and it was decided that he needed to go to hospital. From the initial 111 call to him being discharged from hospital, the level of care to my son and to ourselves was the highest possible. All staff were friendly, welcoming, reassuring and went above and beyond to make sure things were being explained to us rather than just being done. They made a stressful experience as pleasant as possible. We were even offered refreshments! The ambulance driver kindly stopped to ask us how we had got on when she saw us going home! A massive thank you to all staff involved. Our only wish is that our local hospital provided this same level of care.

I had an angiogram in the mobile unit it was very difficult to find I eventually found it after 45 minutes driving around there were a few no shows probably down to not finding but I have got to say that the service that I got was second to none , all staff were amazing

Tooth extraction. Staff were so obliging and helpful. They made me so comfortable and relaxed. The procedure went very well, and discomfort after the procedure has been minimal. Thank you.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Mark & Jonathan (Paramedics), Paula, Anna, the other nurses & Doctors that looked after me on Tuesday 6/2/2024 in A&e what a top class team in A&e they are. Really caring, went in very ill & thanks to them I’m on the mend. What a fantastic service - thank you all so much. Andrew Vincent

Dear Audiology department , I just wanted to say a big thank you . One of my hearing aids went wrong last Sunday . We rang on Monday and got an appointment for today Thursday . I was given a new set of Hearing aids and had help setting them up on the App on my phone . This is a great service and I was well impressed with how quick I was seen . Why people have to knock the NHS I really don't know ! What would we all do with out it . thanks again for your help . and thankyou to all the friendly staff.You are doing a great Job .

After fracturing my humerus 2 weeks ago. I was advised I woukd benefit from a plate fixation operation. I was contracted Thursday afternoon, and operation booked for 0730 the next day (15th Dec! . The team on Glossop ward were brilliant. Caring and informative. The operating team, surgeon, anaesthetist etc, came round and explained what would happen during the operation and were very good at allaying my fears and anxiety. The whole process was excellent, and after time in recovery, chatting to the lovely nurses, I went back into ward for the afternoon for checks, meds etc,. I was discharged and collected at 1700. Every member of staff was hard working and caring, Many Thanks

My son and I spent most of the day in the Day Surgery team yesterday. Right from first entering the reception area to when we said goodbye to the member of staff outside (he walked us to the car park) every single member of staff were attentive and so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We noticed the other patients and family members around and they were all receiving similar top class service too. I want to be able to mention specific team members who were assigned to my son and I but I dont think this I an do this. The theatre support worker, the nurse, the anaethetists and the consultant all made our day go as smoothly as possible and everyone was super supportive to my son. Thank you so so much. You all are doing such amazing jobs and I am so lucky to live in this country where we have this wonderful NHS service. If anyone else has a day surgery appt coming up in Barnstaple hospital then do not fear because you are in in wonderfully safe and reassuring hands. Thanks again

I had an excellent annual review with an incredibly knowledgeable, kind, professional consultant who took the time to help me understand everything and worked with me to define areas of focus to help me achieve results. I left feeling not only positive but also very clear about the steps I can take to help improve my diabetic control and a much better understanding of how to use the technology available to me to make life much easier. The whole diabetes team is great, but my most recent experience with my consultant has been the most positive to date.
