  1. Review titled Amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tom Patterson - Posted on 12 November 2023

I cannot praise the staff enough, I was involved in a serious car crash over 2 years ago, I struggled with a continuous pain in my right shoulder, eventually my Doctor who is also amazing applied for me to have my shoulder operated on at a private hospital, I chose the Ridgeway because I live approximately 5 miles away, the operation was booked really quickly, on the operating table the surgeon discovered there was more serious injuries to my shoulder than the 3 MRI’s had detected, this was all rectified there & then resulting in a 3hr operation, during recovery I managed to break some of the stitches & when I called the Ridgeway they invited me straight in, I was seen within 5 minutes of arriving, 2 weeks later my shoulder had an infection & again I called the Ridgeway & was seen again in no time at all, I have been so impressed with the level of service at a private hospital I have just signed up to private medical insurance for my whole family, not that I feel the NHS is not good enough for me because it is, however having been told it’s approx a 2yr wait for an operation compared to 8 weeks, & being seen straight away compared to a 4hr wait it’s a no brainer, I have never been treated so well in my whole life, prior to being treated by a private hospital I have always criticised people who go private, however for me & my family it’s no going back.

  2. Review titled No bicycle parking.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Swindon Borough Council wants to promote health and environmental policies. Then why is there no where to lock up a bicycle at the Ridgeway hospital.

Good morning Gary, We recognise the impact of the lack of a secure bicycle storage facility within our premises; please be assured that we continue to explore options to address this. Thank you for taking time to share your observation with us. Kind regards The Ridgeway Hospital

  3. Review titled Professional staff across the board

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Burge - Posted on 20 April 2023

At the moment I am still in hospital following an unexpected overnight stay. I must admit, I was very concerned after a long wait yesterday, some difficulty during the op. Throughout the past 24 hours plus, the staff were excellent working around me, they were calm reassuring and very professional. Yes I am still here, seen a couple of shift changes and am very grateful for the manner in which I have been treated.

  4. Review titled Unsatisfactory

Rated 2 stars out of 5

    by S J Hersom - Posted on 08 October 2022

I was admitted to Ridgeway for a lumbar decompression, a 90 minute back operation The hospital called me to a pre-assessment clinic 6 days beforehand to take blood etc and review my medical history. But it transpired that one of the samples had to be done within 5 days which meant another 90 minute round trip On admission at 0700 the first thing was to choose breakfast for the next day. Really? Who can select a meal for the next day when you’re having a general anaesthetic and a big operation? I was first on the list and they were in a hurry to get me down to theatre. There’s a long checklist to do but it was done in one hit and very quickly. Spinal operations are scary and I was very nervous. The anaesthetist saw this and worked to get to sleep quickly rather than make any attempt to calm me down I had been told in pre admission that I’d be got up and moving as soon as possible. Nothing happened so at 2000 I got up for a walk to the total surprise of the staff. I saw no one else moving around in my time there. During the overnight shift the nurse attending didn’t have a thermometer so took no temperature readings. I slept very badly so when the surgeon turned up at 0700 I wasn’t really able to understand what he was saying. Discharge at 1030 was a mess. The patient information sheet is a multiple choice form but none of the choices were deleted, not even what stitches were used and what to do, when. The GP discharge letter merely said “take regular analgesia” without specifying what or how much. The 3 days supply of codeine was totally inadequate both for the pain and the time I needed it so my wife had to return to the hospital (90 minutes round trip) for some stronger painkillers and for the 5 day antibiotic course which had been written up but not provided. My GP was unable to help because of the absence of information in the discharge letter. If it isn’t written down it didn’t happen. No matter how well the staff say things you can’t rely on memory after a general anaesthetic and a bucket of painkillers. So just write it all down chapter and verse.

  5. Review titled Excellent experience.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the Ridgeway Hospital as a day patient for a caudal epidural. Despite this procedure not being a major op, I was treated with care and professionalism from start to finish. The epidural was administered quickly and painlessly and I was then taken to my room for a short recovery period. Everyone, from nurses, doctors and catering staff worked as a team and I highly recommend the Ridgeway Hospital.
