Went in doc said sorry it’s late we are running behind it’s about an hernia you don’t have one so I told him about the large lump he said lay down so I did he had a 4 second feel of my stomach told me I had a hard fat lump I said how come the scan I have said I had an hernia oh you have an hernia it’s just small ( so I’m extremely confused by this time) he then told me I’m over weight which I know but I am disabled an struggle walking never mind exercising an he knew that as I walked in with crutches an when he asked I told him I have arthritis in every joint then I was told that’s all he’ll inform my gp an before we could even get out of our chair he starts talking into his dictaphone which I found very ignorant, it felt like cos we were nhs an not paying patients he wanted us out, Im none the wiser as first I’m told I don’t have an hernia then I’m told I do then made to feel rubbish telling a disabled person there over weight he also wouldn’t let me or my husband speak everytime we started he’d speak over us then rushing us in an out I will never accept an appointment from a private hospital as an nhs person again as we were made to feel unworthy I was in the room less than 2 mins with a doctor that didn’t seem to care at all

  2. Review titled Excellent professional service and care ... Many Thanks

Earlier this year after a referral from my GP I attended the Nuffield Leeds hospital for assessment and treatment for a Hernia repair. The referral was through the NHS who conducted this very thoroughly and quickly, so a great service, it was most appreciated as I was very uncomfortable. Throughout the entire process the Nuffield Leeds has been faultless. Yesterday my procedure was undertaken. From walking into the hospital and leaving at the end of the day, I could not fault the helpful and lovely staff. The Hospital and all the rooms I visited were spotless and were being regularly cleaned and sanitised. Great staff doing this. My I thank you for keeping us all safe and reassured. The facilities at Nuffield Leeds are excellent, Wi-Fi, superb rooms, and after my procedures a delicious plate of food and a cuppa! All the nursing staff, doctors / surgeons / anaesthetist were very professional but also were very friendly taking time to put you at ease and explaining the procedures, a massive thanks for this as I was quite apprehensive. All went to plan, and after being given a thorough discharge and leaflets I am now recovering at home. I had a 5 hour wait for the procedures, but they explained that it had been a very busy day with 7 similar procedures taking place during the day! That is quite astonishing and shows a great commitment. I know have been very fortunate to have had this experience and also being delivered so quickly and smoothly. I thank all at the NHS and the Nuffield for their undoubted efforts and commitment in the delivery of my treatment, particularly for undertaking NHS patients. Please pass this message onto the staff at Nuffield, and thanks to all NHS staff for the delivery of a great service. An all round 5 star from me ...

The whole team at the cardiology department in the Nuffield were excellent. I received thorough and clear advice from the consultant delivered in a friendly and understanding manner. The consultant explained the issues in detail and provided a context which enabled me to understand any implications. The echo scan was done thoroughly, competently and in a friendly way. The booking process was easy and efficient. At the end of the process I felt properly informed and reassured. I would definitely recommend this team.

  4. Review titled Wonderful experience.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I would just like to thank most sincerely the whole team who dealt with me so professionally and yet in such a caring way when I had a full hip replacement at the end of September 2023 at Nuffield, Leeds. The consultant's secretary was brilliant in organising my operation and also putting my mind at rest as this was the first major op that had in all my 73 years. On the day of the op, the consultant, who I had seen at the original appointment, saw me within a few minutes of my arrival in my room, as did a doctor, the anaesthetist and someone to take my order for food after the operation. Everything went smoothly (so I was told) and I settled in to my room on Ingleborough Ward. All the nurses and nursing assistants who looked after me both day and night were perfect. When I needed extra pain relief, it was brought to me within a few minutes. When I asked for a toilet seat riser to make things easier for me it was brought straight away and fitted. Nothing was too much trouble. The consultant came to see me more than once during my short stay. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The housekeepers were all friendly and it was lovely to have a chat with them when they came to my room. The physios were all helpful in showing me how to start moving about again, and I couldn't believe how soon I was walking carefully around the corridors with the help of my crutches. My whole stay was faultless and I can't think of the slightest thing that could have been improved. Likewise with the follow up treatment. As I live on my own, I needed all the help I could get, and it has all been forthcoming. On my first visit to see my physio she looked at my wound and saw that there was a very slight infection. Within minutes of her finishing going through my exercises with me she referred me to a nurse who cleaned the wound, redressed it and then arranged for a doctor to see me and give me a prescription for antibiotics. I've been back for a second physio appointment when I was told everything is going well, the wound has been redressed twice more and I'm due to see my consultant in a fortnight (just six weeks after the operation). I wish I could name names for specific praise, but it seems that I can't according to the rules and regulations. I was very pleasantly surprised when I was given the choice of going to a private hospital for this operation, and I hope that if, and probably when, I need my other hip replacing, I'll be allowed to be be looked after by the same wonderful team. Thank you everyone! Five well deserved stars.

  5. Review titled Excellent service

I recently had a consultation with a cardiologist and very quickly this was followed by an Echocardiogram. Having been very fortunate to have little contact with Doctors and hospitals in my 58 years I was both nervous and concerned. However both my appointments were informative, reassuring and most helpful. In my opinion the team in this department should be congratulated for creating a comfortable and friendly environment and changing what was initially a worrying experience into a pleasant one. Thank you everyone I am keeping my hands out of the biscuit barrel and feeling good. Thank you all the team.

Was admitted to Ingleborough Ward the day previous to my open heart surgery and everything was very efficient My recovery during the following week was initially with specialist trained nurses before being transferred back to the ward. All the staff were most caring, patient and willing to attend to my every need however trivial. Thank you all

  9. Review titled Positive, supportive and thorough

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I chose this hospital because this was the nearest neurosurgery unit to me. I had already had two mrinscans with the nhs, but my surgeon wanted a third which picked up a spinal stenosis site that had been missed. I needed an ultrasound scan also to check my heart. An effort was done so that I could have it checked in time for the operation. The cardiology dept. was supportive and helpful in getting this completed in time.

  10. Review titled Teamwork

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Old but not grey - Posted on 23 August 2022

The NHS is strapped for cash and struggling with unprecedented demand. I decided to pay for a consultation as I was short of breath. Consultant was brilliant. He checked me out and recommended tests on the spot. My wife insisted I accept the offer despite the cost. The Consultant clearly respected those who would do the tests. It was clear why. I chatted to the woman who had just tested me. Teamwork. You have a critical role as well. You had to play your part for me to do my job properly. Sadly, my wife was given this link a week ago. It was wrongly assumed that the message she had left was earlier that same lunchtime. I had spoken to the consultant a week after the tests. He reassured me and said he was recommending drugs. He suggested that the normal timescale would be fine. Over a week later my GP had heard nothing. So I chased up. Messages fell into holes. My wife rang. I eventually got through to a member of reception committed to teamwork. She took personal responsibility. The GP practice team then kicked in. I said to the receptionist that staff who were struggling needed support. The letter to my GP had not been sent. I had struggled to confirm the details of the initial appointment. An email I sent was returned after 72 hours as undeliverable. Some individuals and some structures are clearly not fit for purpose. I known from direct experience that motivation is destroyed across the board where individuals and systems are not held to account. I am grateful to a very effective member of staff for pointing out to me that without my own active role as part of a team I would not have the opportunity to experience quality care. Hiding the truth helps no-one. Poor kit must be sorted immediately. No individual should be allowed to protect themselves.
