I've been a service user for many years. I've been doing a detox off of my prescription in the community and have been struggling. I've been desperately trying to contact my worker for almost 2 weeks on the work phone and leaving messages at cgl ashton office to be completely ignored! Absolutely disgusting that during the most crucial part of the recovery journey the support is nowhere to be seen and to blatantly ignore someone asking for help. This type of conduct could result in a relapse or even death for some individuals. It really isn't good enough and I hope that the CQC will investigate this misconduct.

I have had many bad experiences .To give you a specific one last week .I told my keyworker that I was dealing with death of lifelong best friend & also anniversary of Parents passing .All I got was no words except just get on with it & asked questions about alcohol cocaine which I haven’t used for over 30 years..I can not believe that there is no interaction or care just box ticking exercise .If you complain they make life difficult .Ive worked in services have many friends who work in CGL & over services .They agree it has turned into a punitive way of treating people .5 keyworkers only seen 2 for few mins.Hold script so you turn up for appt which is so unprofessional.I do not trust this service as all promises have been broken .I was told that I hadn’t been CGL since August 2023 when in fact I spent 7 appts in December 2023 ..Worker then admitted looking at wrong person on CRIIS ..

Review titled I see a future for my son

Today is a day I only dreamt of really had lost all hope ...my son went to detox ...after years of addiction...to see him Rock bottom many times watching him nearly die....and unable to stop him help him. Many times he said he wanted to get clean but each time we nearly got him to treatment he went AWOL ...he's addiction not only wrecked his life but also mine as a mum to watch him a broken man homeless on the streets and unable to stop him wasting away......but today is massive not only for him but for me ... CGL never gave up on him and worked tirelessly to help him they went above and beyond and I truly believe they have saved his life and supported me and saved my sanity. The team at cgl gave me hope when I'd really thought my son was lost forever to addiction.. today I see a future for my son and and my heart feels so much lighter I can't thank all at CGL who went above and beyond for my son and me.

As I read your story, I felt incredibly moved by your words. I can only imagine how it must have felt for you to watch your son immersed in an addiction that was so seriously jeopardising his wellbeing, not to mention his life. It must have been so frustrating after each attempt of trying to get your son the support he needed only for him to not engage, and the feelings of worry that accompanied your frustrations must have been overwhelming. I can completely understand why you experienced such strong feelings of hopelessness during that time, and needed to lean on a service like ours to help you feel otherwise. It is amazing to read that after many years, your son has finally made it into detox. Whilst he is there, I really hope that he receives all of the support he needs and that he keeps an open mind and engages in everything that comes his way. When your son returns from detox, I hope that he continues to access the support that will be available to him through our service and that over time he builds a life for himself that makes him happy and proud. It is really important that you take care of yourself and your own wellbeing too during this time, as based on what you have shared and have both been through it may take some time to rebuild your relationship again. There are support services in Birmingham who specialise in supporting family members who are affected by a loved one’s addiction, who will be able to provide you with some advice on how you can take care of your own wellbeing, but also how you can best support your son as he moves forwards in his recovery. Your words about our service and the staff who have supported you and your son are very kind. The staff was great, it was very xmassy, the food put out for us was lovely. Looking forward to the quiz, also just heard there will be a xmas hamper, that's great at such a hard time of year.

I attended the xmas open day. Previously attended one session on a Wednesday evening. So my experience is limited. But the staff is lovely and the environment is very welcoming.

The service is welcoming. You never feel at ease, they will do everything in their power to make you feel at ease. This is the best service if you need help. I can't think of anyway to improve the service.

After being with cgl over the past few years I have found them to be useless. I have had more than 6 key workers and the amounts of times I have turned up and they are off sick or not available to see me was unacceptable. They seen to blame Me for not making progress but when your not getting the help you desperately want and need it's not surprising. It takes alot to admit you need help but cgl just made me feel worthless.

I've had nothing but positive experiences from CGL, they're brilliant. They've really helped with my addiction problems and I am very grateful. The people that work here are lovely, caring and understanding and I'm so glad I got involved with them. Thank you, I really feel I can beat these addictions.

The support here has been amazing, wish I would have found it sooner, everyone is supportive. I need this in my life. Showed me loads of support when I feel so alone and lost. Made me feel not alone like there is support. Just needed support and it makes me feel lighter.

Connection in recovery is so important, as addiction and the struggles that come with it can make people feel incredibly isolated and alone, and it sounds like this has very much been the case for you. Now you have this new support option in your life, I hope you take full advantage of it and access it as much as possible moving forwards. It will be there for as long as you need it. I am sure that with the support you have discovered, and through your own commitment and determination, you will achieve everything you want to in your recovery.
