  1. Review titled Above and beyond!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

This website does not allow me to name the incredible Doctor who really heard me, addressed and calmed my multiple concerns, and somehow found me an "expected 3-month referral" in a week! It takes an exceptional person to achieve all that in a few minutes, and I am incredibly grateful to him 😀

  2. Review titled Messing people about

Rated 1 star out of 5

It’s seems like the clinicians in this place likes to mess around patients. Only way to get an appointment is via the accrux system which closed half the day. Called at 8am basically told me they do not have a triage. Feels like they do not take your symptoms seriously leading you to call 111 and 111 doctor booking you in but only for the doctor to put a strike through your name and not contact you. They could not bother to even send message. Reception staff is a hit or miss you can get some helpful ones and some not. Honestly I do not know how the surgery thinks it’s acceptable for things to run like this. Absolutely appalled.

  3. Review titled 24 years of excellent care 😀

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We have been at Speedwell for nearly quarter of a century, and we feel extremely fortunate! Today, for example, I saw a wonderful Doctor within 6 hours of requesting an appointment. I was extremely distressed when I arrived, but she checked me thoroughly and really heard and addressed my concerns. She also arranged for the scan I was anxious to have. By the time I left, I felt calm, reassured, and extremely blessed to be a patient at this Practice!

Very polite and efficient and always looking to be helpful. The efficiency has improved a great deal over the last year or two.

  5. Review titled Unhelpful attitude by reception staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 December 2023

It is rare that I write critical feedback as I appreciate all the work that is being done and of course the staff that I value. However, recently, we have run into less than satisfactory interactions with your side. It is in relation to my toddler son who has a vulnerable chest and requires ongoing treatments. I received a text on my mobile phone, that based on his vulnerability in Winter (he has repeated hospital admissions with viral chest infections), he needs a flu vaccine and advised that I book an appointment. I filled in the form as we have done several times before on the mobile phone. An automatic test promised a contact within a day. No contact was made. I filled in the form a second time to the same effect. My wife also did the same and no reply or call was made. A few days later we were about to run out of critical medication and I called your reception. The reception lady said that a vaccination appointment date has been fixed and communicated by text to my mobile phone number. Regarding the prescription, She said a link was sent to my phone number. The problem nothing came. I had to walk into the practice myself. I checked my phone number there was an error by one digit. I do not understand how this is happened, I used the same number multiple times and every time there was no issue. I corrected the number, she said she sent the details again, nothing came in phone even with the supposedly corrected number. I went back to the receptionist, she initially denied receiving any e-mails from myself. She tried to argue that there is something wrong with my phone and I should check with my service provider. When I said, also how about the e-mail about patient access instead of a prescription when I know patient access is not available for children. There was some back and forth exchange which I feel was not helpful as she kept brushing me off to check with the “service providers” even thought I pointed out it can not be both myself and my wife have faults with our mobile phones? Somehow, she managed to find the e-mails I sent after my insistence and after I had to explain why I need this prescription a.s.a.p. She told me to wait for a reply from the prescription team within 24 hours. I have not still received any texts or links on my phone even after the supposedly corrected number. What I find sad is the way, I was brushed off and not taken seriously when there was clearly, a technical issue that needs to be solved. Only after my insistence that she gave me the e-mail address and I feel the tone, and the body language lacked in the necessary empathy and helpfulness required in such a situation. Instead of looking into the issue, was I was brushed to “check with my service providers”. In all this, what at stake was forgotten, there is a vulnerable child who needs this medication without interruption, and this should have been the focus of this encounter.

  6. Review titled Poor appointment system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 November 2023

The appointment system is disappointing. You are only able to book an appointment now via the online platform. This platform is supposed to be open until midday but now closes once capacity has been reached - on this occasion by 9.30am. I tried calling to make an appointment as I could not access the online form and was told the only way of booking is via the online platform. My other option was to call 111. This system does not take into consideration vulnerable or elderly patients who may struggle using online. What happens if you are medically unwell in the afternoon and need to see a GP. Pushing them to 111 is not the answer. I understand that general practice is under strain but this doesn’t help the system, is against the access requirements set this year and doesn’t feel particularly safe. Surely there should be access in the mornings and afternoons. Maybe consider a secondary option for patients who struggle with online access.

  7. Review titled Worst GP practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Damian Sklencik - Posted on 12 December 2023

I have been waiting 9 years for second opinion. As a result of wrong diagnosis I ended up in wheelchair and with chronic pain. During Covid I volunteered around 30 times for the practice for free. After 6 years of waiting I left the practice. Recently I moved back to them and because of that needed review of my medication. Doctor said they can’t give me any painkillers at all and was told to get paracetamol of the counter. I would never choose them again.

  8. Review titled New triage system not fit for purpose

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by S Miles - Posted on 02 June 2023

The new Accurx triage system is not fit for purpose as it is constantly turned off early, and the receptionists can't / won't help make appointments after that time, simply repeating "log in at 0600 tomorrow / Monday". There is no recognition of the fact many people are unable to do this early in the morning. There must be a facility to use the triage system later in the day rather than it being turned off at an arbitrary time each morning - why not turn it on from say 0900-1200 and 1500-1800 each day giving everyone a fair chance to access their GP? 0600 to an unknown time in the morning is not reasonable. Furthermore, and probably more importantly, when you have an ongoing issue being investigated and require a series of follow-up appointments with a named GP, why are patients forced to go through the triage system anyway? In these cases, common sense should be applied and the receptionists should be empowered to make the follow-up appointment over the phone. Even better would be if whichever triage system was in use required a login with a username / password so patients could add additional info and requests for follow-ups to their case history at any time. The old Patient Access system was the best when the practice used that as you could log in and select an appointment at a convenient time. Now, if you receive an appointment, no notice is taken of your availability, which is frustrating for those who work full time and have many time commitments. The GPs at Speedwell are excellent but it's frustrating and upsetting that the practice has made it so hostile for some sections of the community and those requiring follow-up to access its services. Technology is great but it's not being used effectively here, almost just as an overlay to existing manual systems, which is the worst of both worlds.

Twice recently I have written about a concern first thing Monday, and have been called back with an appointment later the same day. Anxiety fixed. Service excellent.
